Help with sorting arrays with objects in it
I have to build an array through both activerecord and also through a ferret index. I was hoping to find a way of sorting the array as i combine the two so def advanced_search(search_text, store, format, sortby) # find items in ferret index items = Item.find_by_contents(search_text) # and now find all the items from a certain store or category items_from_sql = Item.find_by_sql("SELECT *

Category Number Results returned
I am looking to have a number of categories populated from my results of a search. For example, searching on "sport" would display all results for sport. I want to also have a number of categories to refine the documents down. So by clicking on the "Fishing" category or the "Shooting" category, I would only see the results on sport around that category. Now for

acts_as_ferret.. what does it actually do?
Okay in this plea for help I''m going to repeat some of what i posted before but with a larger amount of background info in the hope that i can get a decent grip on ferret before it wriggles away.. Firstly, what does installing the acts_as_ferret plugin actually do? I install it and add it to my model and then the index is automatically generated and a few methods are added to it and

adding a custom filter to the query
Hi all, I''m trying to figure out how to add a filter into a search. I''ve created the filter, basically copying the location filter from http://blog.tourb.us/archives/ferret-and-location-based-searches. But when I try to call Index.search and pass the filter in a hash with the key :filter, I get back that it is expecting type Data, and so I''m at a loss to figure out

incorrect checksum for freed object?
I''m using ferret (0.9.4) in rails, but outside of the "acts_as_ferret" plugin. Whenever I use a QueryFilter (even a very simple one), the server will crash after one, two, or three reloads of a page (same page, same query, same filter). It''s very non-deterministic and I can''t seem to reproduce it outside of my application environment (I can''t get it

Is there a way to do incremental search?
Say the user first enters "ruby" for search and gets 1000 results. Then he can search "rails" just in the 1000 results just returned. The common scenario is some kind of advanced search. User can incrementally add criteria and the program will narrow the results step by step. I know that at least I can use all the criteria as a whole to do the searching, but this is a waste

Whitespace Issues
I am trying to build up a filtered search using the logic below. bq = Ferret::Search::BooleanQuery.new bq.add_query(Ferret::Search::TermQuery.new(Ferret::Index::Term.new("section",section.downcase!)), Ferret::Search::BooleanClause::Occur::MUST) filter = Ferret::Search::QueryFilter.new(bq) @vobjects = VoObject.find_by_contents(search_input,:filter => filter, :sort

Using a datefilter with caching
I''m trying to use a DateFilter to speed up some searches. The situation is that a have an index with 200 000+ documents and I want to run a few thousand alerts (basically stored searches) on only a small portion of the index (documents added the last hour). Is datefilter the best solution for the situation described above? I assumed that the datefilter would be cached in the same way

Range searches some times they work, some times not...
Hi i''m using ferret to enable geographical postcode. I take a postcode and distance in miles from the user, strip off the outcode and then retrieve the associated x y coordinates in metres from the db. Then i get two temp x''s and y''s and search for all results that are within the box, see code below. Problems start to occur when i search on big distances so for

Looking for better code
Hi, I''ve been programming in RoR for about a week or 2-3, and I like it very much. Now, I have a certain problem that is very complicated, well for me at least :-) I have 3 database tables: recipes ingredients and another one which binds the previous 2 tables together Now, I want to have an input form where you can insert 1 recipe and a certain amount of ingredients, say 5. Boost Sorting with Acts_as_ferret?
Hey guys, Simple question here. I have a single index of recipes, from which I''m looking at the following fields: Name, Ingredient Text, Tags, and Description. The key is, I want to show all the results that come from Name, before I show any of the results from Ingredient Text, Tags, or Description. I tried doing this: acts_as_ferret :fields => { :name =>

Adding form fields (extending a form) on the fly
Hello, I just can''t seem to find a way to extend a form dynamically in ROR. Say I am writing a recipe website. There is one form to enter the recipe. There is room for N number of ingredients (let''s say a text field for each ingredient name and selection list for the amount). What if the user wants to add more than N ingredients as he types them in? how do I do this without

Deformulation and R
Dear All, I hope this is not too off-topic. Essentially, I need to know if there is any R package which can help me with a deformulation project. Suppose e.g. that you know from a chemical analysis the fat, mineral, vitamin, energy [and so on] content of a certain food product. You also know the ingredients of this product (e.g. milk, lactose, vegetable oil) and you know the chemical

inherits() and virtual classes
Hi How do I test for an object having a particular virtual class? In the following, "onion" is a virtual class, and "octonion" is a non-virtual class contained in onion. The last call to inherits() gives FALSE [R-2.5.0], when inherits.Rd led me to expect TRUE. setClass("onion", representation = "VIRTUAL" )

RJS newbie - need help with iterating / existence test
Greetings! I''m new to Ajax and am trying to get a basic app working as a vehicle for learning it. The app is an extension of the cookbook tutorial. My intent is to be able to add a list of ingredients for a recipe. The page to add ingredients uses Ajax. As ingredients are added to the page they''re displayed in a "green-bar" format like that used in the Depot

as.environment(NULL)
Hi In NEWS, it says R CMD check now tests that the package can be loaded, and that the package and namespace (if there is one) can each be loaded in startup code (before the standard packages are loaded). For package "onion", I think I have followed all of sections 1.6.1 - 1.6.6 of R-exts, and it passes R CMD check for R-2.3.1. However, using R version 2.4.0 Under
