doubts in ferret
I am using ferret to build a search application for my site. I used stemming analyzer to build the index. Ferret::Analysis::StemFilter documentation bug
"nl" selects the dutch stemming algorithm, "no" selects the norwegian (as one would expect). there''s no inconsistency, which the documentation would suggest (using "dut" and "nld" for dutch stemming, "nl" or "no" for norwegian). this is on ferret 0.11.4 at least, i didn''t check earlier versions. phillip -- Posted

can boost change dynamically??
Hi, I have got a peculiar requirement in my project. I need to apply some boost to different fields of my index. But the problem is the boost that needs to be applied is dynamic. It changes for everyrow of data.I am storing that in the index itself while building it. Is there anyway by which i can add the boost to search query while searching. at present am retreiving the whole set of searched

Ferret 0.11.4.win32 indexing speed vs Ferret 0.10.9.win32
Firstly, thanks Dave for all your hard work. Ferret Rocks!, I am just testing 0.11.4.win32 and it seems to work just fine, however the index creation phase of my app is perhaps 3x slower under 0.11.4 vs 0.10.9 Details follow: System: windows xp sp2, index on local hard disk, Ruby 1.8.6 Run #1, Ferret 0.10.9 - Reboot - Build index, 35,000 rows added in 297 seconds - Run #2, Ferret 0.11.4 -

install ferret on windows
Hi! I''m trying to install ferret on windows, so I chose ferret-0.10.9-mswin32.gem from the download page, as it includes a already pre-compiled ferret_ext.so (is that correct?) and I don''t have any C compiler here. The gem installed it correctly, but the test didn''t work. So I called these commands: rake ext ruby setup.rb config ruby setup.rb setup ruby setup.rb

ported index from one machine to another
Hi, I built an index on a free bsd machine using ferret and then ported the index to another machine. While searching from that copied index the searcher generates a file not found error. I have set all the permission right and the files do exist in the directories.on creating index from local machine the searcher finds the index. could any body please tell what might be the problem. Is it a

Indexing and searching across multiple locales
Hi - I''m currently investigating support for Ferret and content that spans multiple locales. I am particularly interested in using stemming and fuzzy searches (e.g. with slop factor) across multiple locales. So far I''ve followed the online docs for implementing a Stemming Analyzer, and it is working for English terms just fine. I''ve also written a method to import data

ferret w/ acts as ferret on windows
hi all! after hours of trying to find contents with german umlauts i stumbled upon a post where someone said ferret won''t work with utf-8 on windows??? is that really true? do i really have to iconv everything to iso-8859-15 before indexing and do the same with the query to get it working? i''m running ruby 1.8.5, ferret 0.10.9-mswin32, and rails 1.2.2 and just reinstalled aaf

Stemming, stop words, acts_as_ferret
I''d like to get the following behavior: 1. Stemming. The search is on a database of summaries of California legal cases. Things like a search for "thermal image" needs to hit "thermal imaging." 2. Stop words. Searches for "failing to instruct the jury" should come up with hits on a search for "fail to instruct." 3. Case-insensitive. What I

performance bottleneck
I have got my database in Mysql. I used ferret to index a table with 10 million rows. On limiting the selection of data to 1000 initial retrieval, it takes 200 seconds but for the whole table it took more than four hours and after which i had to close my indexing application. I used the StandardAnalyser for it. There is no problem from the database side as retrieval of all the data in the table

Warming up a new Searcher/Reader (Ferret 0.10.9 win32)
Hi, I have a largish index [700MB] which is updated from time to time, requiring me to close and recreate the Ferret::Search::Searcher to use the latest index. My problem is that the first few searches on the new index are slow [by comparison to before the close/recreate], I''m guessing because the new index is being loaded into RAM by my OS and into Ferret as needed. I''m

Ferret::StateError while using acts_as_ferret
I''m fairly new to ferret / aaf and finding it much easier to use than HyperEstraier (which I migrated from). However, I am getting a few errors and I need to figure out if they''re problems with my usage of ferret or a bug I should report. I''m currently running Ferret 0.10.11 with acts_as_ferret (latest via svn external) and 3 times today I''ve seen the

Ferret install, rake failing on make
I''m currently trying to install the latest version of Ferret (0.10.9) on my Ubuntu Dapper (6.06) system. I have tried the gem, but it does not generate the ferret_ext.so file. Ideally I would prefer to install from the gem, but if source works, I''m fine with that too. I am now trying an install from source, but when I run the command ''$ rake ext'' I get the
