OT: dmidecode data - what is maximum RAM capacity of this box?
In Timo's thread about RAM today, I noticed dmidecode and I got the
data for my Dell Dimension 2400 (Celeron CPU) box, which is below. I
won this box in a raffle, during February 2005. After I got the box, I
got conflicting information, from Crucial.com and from Dell Latin
America, regarding the maximum RAM configuration. To be conservative,
I bought two 256 MB DIMMS from Crucial.com, early

KVM or Qemu
List-
I know this may be slightly off topic and if so tell me to hit up the
emu-discuss mailing list, but does anyone know how to detect the difference
between a guest that is being fully emulates using qemu and a guest that is
running para-virtualized using KVM?
I have and when I inspect the CPUs I see the following....
# cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel

[TESTING] SMBIOS Type 6 anyone?
Some people have reported that the menu doesn't display any memory
information on some machines.
I have implemented the 3.3.7 Memory Module Information (Type 6,
Obsolete) hoping it solves the problem (CLI only right now).
If you want to play with it, a build can be found at:

CentOS 6.0: panic installing i386 on old Acer Desktop
Well, after much trial and tribulation I got to the point I could nfs
mount the CentOS 6.0 i386 iso image and try an install.
So I stuck in the net install CD (latest from CentOS), mounted the nfs
iso image and gave it several shots.
It goes swimmingly until I click "write disks".
Then there's a kernel panic. This with both the graphic and text mode
installs.
As mentioned,

[PATCH 0/3] SMBIOS table passthrough support
SMBIOS table pass-through is useful in supporting vendor/OEM specific functionality in HVM guests. There are numerous OEM software packages and drivers that depend on having certain SMBIOS tables surfaced in a guest for their proper functioning. This also includes drivers and software needed for device pass-through. This series of patches introduces support for SMBIOS pass-through in the

[PATCH] HVM SMBIOS v2 0/5
The following patches are a cleaned up version of the HVM SMBIOS
patches I submitted last Friday.
Differences include
(1) SMBIOS is no longer optional for HVM domU''s.
(2) The refactoring I did of hvmloader wasn''t really necessary, so I
got rid of it.
(3) The patches have been tested on changeset

(4) The versions of strcpy() and

please ignore previous SMBIOS patches
For some reason, half of the patches I posted on Friday for HVM SMBIOS
support haven''t shown up yet.
I''m going to try to post a version of them reworked for changeset

in a few moments, so please ignore the previous posts.

File option for smbios.
Hi guys,
Does anybody knows if there is an option to set a binary file for smbios?
Currently, I'm doing this approach:
<qemu:commandline>
<qemu:arg value='-smbios'/>
<qemu:arg value='file=/var/run/libvirt/qemu/smbios_type_1.bin'/>
</qemu:commandline>
Has libvirt a method as <smbios mode='host'/> ?

[PATCH v4 03/04] HVM firmware passthrough SMBIOS processing
Passthrough support for the SMBIOS structures including three new DMTF defined
types and support for OEM defined tables. Passed in SMBIOS types override the
default internal values. Default values can be enabled for the new type 22
portable battery using a xenstore flag. All other new DMTF defined and OEM
structures will only be added to the SMBIOS table if passthrough values are
present.

SMBIOS level in Xen
All,
What is the current minimum required SMBIOS version for Xen?
Assuming it is not already, the SMBIOS version on the platform were to
be raised to 2.5, would there be issues?
Thanks
Raj

[PATCH] [HVM] Make serial number in SMBIOS table equal to UUID
[HVM] [SMBIOS] Duplicate UUID into serial number in SMBIOS tables.
Windows zeroes out the UUID in the SMBIOS tables, but the identifier
is often needed by systems management code. Duplicating the UUID
as the virtual system''s serial number should help.

[PATCH 0/2] Fix SMBios table regressions in HVM guests
The series "HVM firmware passthrough" series in Jan 2013 from Ross Philipson
cause two regressions for HVM guests which sadly found their way into the Xen
4.3 release.
The first regression causes an incorrect count of tables to be placed in the
main header, and can be seen by running dmidecode in any applicable HVM domain.
The second regression found its way into the public ABI, making
