Examples for Money library ?
Can anybody share some examples of their Money implementation ?
I''m trying to setup a Model to use this library, but can''t seem to wrap my
head around how it is exactly supposed to work.
My Model (Foo) looks like:
===============
composed_of :commission, :class_name => "Money", :mapping => [
%w(commission_cents cents), %w(commission_currency currency) ]

[UNDER CONSTRUCTION] YAC? (Yet Another Capistrano)
My needs are far more modest than Capistrano''s capabilities. Also, when
working in a shared hosting environment, the Capistrano model can be
outside the capabilities allowed by the Web host.
I simply need to push selected directories (on a changed-file basis) out
to a server. I have about 80% of the code written to do this (I''m
considering YAC for the name, with a nod to

Streaming to/from MySQL
Hi.
When I upload a 10Mb file (from my browser) to my Rails app, a Tempfile
object gets created on the server. When the contents gets written to the
database, it''s a simple INSERT, so basically the data is read to memory
and then inserted into MySQL.
How come the data is not streamed to the DB so we avoid the memory
issue? Is this a short coming of ActiveRecord or the MySQL/Ruby

Console for Testing Routes?
Hi,
when the "Agile Web Development" book talks about routes, there are what
looks like console transcripts like the following:
URL> store
@params = {:controller => ''store'', :action = ''index''}
Is there something like a console for testing routes (where you could
put in a url and see how rails would route it)??

Multiple "has" in ActiveRecord
Please excuse a newbie question, but I couldn''t find anything by
searching the archives.
What I want to know is how to have multiple references to the same
class/table within a class. For example, let''s say I have a table called
People:
create table people (
id serial8 primary key
,name);
which just holds a list of the people in the database. Then I have

sha1 or md5?
I''m building a site that requires user log-in and i have seen the Agile
book using sha1 for password hashing while R-Forum uses md5.
Is there any compelling argument to use one over the other?

I need untyped associations
I am in the process of trying to migrate to ROR from a home grown ORM,
but one stumbling block is ActiveRecord''s typed associations and object
ID assignment scheme. In the home grown system, I have a master table
which *all* objects are packed into and a master associative table which
holds *all* associations. This allows each object, regardless of type,
to have a unique ID and thus it

Should controllers be "smart"?
I''m working on a small project with a friend, and one of the things we
needed to do was send off an email whenever someone signs up an
account. His implementation was pretty simple - throw a
deliver_welcome call inside the controller after the signup. I''m sure
that this is a pretty common thing to do.
The problem, in my mind, was that the app now became tied to two
places -

Building a Gem around an API for Shopify
Hi,
Can anyone assist with API connection with Shopify?
We are looking to connect and link our shopify account with an inventory
fulfillment center that we are using. The logistics company has provided us
with connectivity guidelines via either API connection or FTP.
Let me know if you can assist with this one (hours). I can send the info
you through.
Thanks Matthew

Best way to bill through LinkPoint? Is ActiveMerchant solid?
I need to set up a site to charge cards through LinkPoint. I did some
searching to see what was available, and saw that Shopify uses
ActiveMerchant. I saw that it hasn''t been touched in several months,
though perhaps that''s simply because it hasn''t needed any changes.
Just wondering what''s the best way to go about this.
Thanks for any info.

[SUMMARY] Rails Core Weekly June 5 - June 11
Dear list,
This weeks RCW has a slightly different format than before. After all,
since what we want is less bloat, this RCW is less verbose. Please do
let me know what you think off-list.

Database in RoR application
I''m working on a new rails project that will have a very, very large
database. Initial insert will be in the hundreds of thousands of
records.
The database we are getting the information from is Microsoft SQL based,
and we have access to tab delimited update files daily.
We''re trying to write import scripts and use a well designed database on
our end. The data they are

OpenOffice 3.3.0 crashing on CentOS 5.5
The last few releases of OpenOffice have gotten very
unstable on my desktop which is a CentOS 5.5 i386 system.
After multiple crashes when doing embedded simple drawings
in OpenOffice writer (circles and lines with connections), I
started using the versions from Sun then Oracle. I am
now using version 3.3: openooffice.org3-3.3.0-9567. I've
lived with this but with version 3.x it has gotten

Here is what it has to do....

Friendly Reminder (OT)
Today, I had a tragic hard drive crash. I hadn''t updated anything to SVN in
two weeks.
I''m posting this here as a reminder to my beloved Rails community.
Everyone, right now..... make a backup of your rails work. Make sure its on
two disks. Many of you already do that automatically, but just make sure its
working.
Two near-release rails plugins were lost in the tragic crash

List of all Models
Anyone know a pretty way to get a list of all Models?
That is, a list of all classes which inherit from ActiveRecord:Base
I can''t seem to figure it out!
The best I''ve got is to list the /app/models directory... but, that is
*dirty*.
