Acts_as_taggable / Rails Recipes bug?
I''m following the acts_as_taggable chapter from the Rails Recipes book. I want my view form to have a text_field that correlates to an attribute in the Model that accepts a string of space delimited tags. The book uses tag-_list, but from what I can tell this attribute can''t be written to. I''ve added this to the plugin code itself - am I missing something, is there a

Acts_as_Taggable
A couple of quick acts_as_taggable (the Rails 1.1 plugin version) 1. Can you update tags on an existing record? If I execute the tag_with statement twice it creates two rows in the taggings column, instead of updating the value of the existing tag 2. Can you delete tags? I didn''t see a method for this. If I can delete tags, problem #1 goes away. scott.

Seek brilliant Rails programmer to add one field to acts_as_taggable
I''m on the downhill side of a large project that requires an additional integer field to be added to the tag.rb in acts_as_taggable. I feel I have a good understanding of ActiveRecord and have performed the correct migrations. (As a short background for those following this thread) when one wants to add tags to a model they call the ''tag_with'' method that jumps into

acts_as_ferret + :tag_list, how to use it?
hello, i am currently using acts_as_ferret in one of my applications and now would like to also incorproate tags. i came across somesones blog that had this: ////// Having Ferret index method results (like :tag_list) worked out-of-the-box for me with acts_as_ferret. I specified attributes (table columns) as strings and methods as symbols, like so: acts_as_ferret :fields => [?title?,

ROR Recipes Beta: Why use taggings instead of tags_contacts? NoMethodError tag_with?
I have gotten acts_as_taggable to work for a test application as documented on taggable.rubyforge.org I am following Chad''s excellent examples in ROR Recipes Beta book. I have a few questions and hope that Chad or some other expert can help clarify them. 1. Why is the book suggesting to use taggings table instead of tags_contacts, as mentioned on taggable.rubyforge.org?

Works in model but not in mixin
Disclaimer: RoR newbie. Using the acts_as_taggable plugin. As an exercise I wanted to switch from the destructive TAG_WITH method to adding tags while preserving the existing ones. On the surface this seemed easy enough and eventually I got it working. However, the following method: def add_tags(list) Tag.transaction do Tag.parse(list).each do |name| if

Removing One Element From a Serialized Form
Hi all, I''m trying to serialize a form with the exception of one specific element. Serializing the form in a hash (without pulling out specific elements) works: <li> <%= link_to_remote ''(Save)'', {:url => post_path(@post), :with => "$ (''post_form'').serialize(true)" }, :method => :put %> </li> The generated code

validation nightmare
Please help, I am really at a loss at how validation is supposed to work in rails. Model contains acts_as_tree I want to force my NEW objects to have a parent I do NOT want existing object to have a parent so I only want to have parent_id on create, NOT on update. I am trying this: def validate_on_create validates_presence_of :parent_id, :message => "You must specify a

Verifying existance of related record
Is there an easy way to validate that a related record exists? I''ve got a table that contains a set of categories and I want to make sure the user has entered a vaild category (i.e. a category that exists in the categories table). Automatic reindexing of associated columns acts_as_taggable
Hi, So i''m trying to use acts_as_taggable with the acts_as_ferret plugin, where I have Post.rb model, which has a method tag_list made available through acts_as_taggable, as returns a string of associated tag words from the tags table (tag.rb). Hi All, I am modifying typo so as, I can host multiple blogs on the same typo. And its almost done, except that...i am stuck at one place. So..in the admin/content_controller.rb: We have: def new_or_edit if request.post? set_article_author

validate_on_destroy ?
What''s the best way to validate_on_destroy. Rails only seems to include validate_on_create and validate_on_update methods. I don''t want to resort to doing: before_destroy do |j| raise "There is an error" if j.etc end Is there a way of finding out what action (create/update/destroy) is being performed if I use the ''validate'' method? -- Posted via

acts_as_taggable plugin: more delimiters?
I''m going through the Recipes book and got to the Tagging chapter, wanted to give it a shot. According to the text, tag_with takes a space-delimited list of tags. Is there a way to use different delimeters, such as commas or single quotes? Some tags can potentially have more than one word, such as ''ice cream''. I''d like to be able to use those without doing

acts_as_taggable with single-table inheritance?
Does anyone have any experience making this work? I installed the plugin and tried the following: class SomeClass < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_Taggable end class SubClass1 < SomeClass end class SubClass2 < SomeClass end SubClass1.tag_with("tag") and notice that taggable_type = SomeClass when I do SubClass2.find_tagged_with("tag") a SubClass1 object is
