Is there a perl equivalent of .= in ruby/rails??
I want to make a for loop that concats strings onto a variable: html .= var1 + "this is a test" + whatever What is the syntax that does this in ruby/rails? Also, is there a ''print'' method in ruby? Because when I try to use render_text it will only let me use this once. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Why Ruby on Rails won''t become mainstream
Why Ruby on Rails won''t become mainstream http://beust.com/weblog/archives/000382.html Kind of interesting, but didn''t convince me. Though, yeah, I can imagine a lot of naive programmers sticking with PHP and VB (the type of crowd that also doesn''t run their own servers, so they''re dependent on hosts offering Rails for them). Rails DOES have an IDE - soon

MassPay API with Ruby On Rails PayPal AARRRGH
Hey, I''m trying to use Paypal to automatically pay customers, and I''ve heard MassPay API is a good thing to use. But I cannot find any examples of it for Ruby, nor do I know what steps to take to use it. Does anyone have any information or experience with using MassPay API in RoR? Any help is much appreciated -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Newbie - Help Please
I am just getting off the ground with RoR. (actually just walking out to the runway) I want to setup a development / test environment as close to the production environment as possible except for OS (Win XP for Dev, Linux for Prod). I have Apache, MySQL, PhP installed and operating close enough to the production environment that all the PhP stuff I''ve done in the past seems to work

Your RoR 1.1 Adoption Prediction?
What is the likelyhood that major inexpensive webhosts like godaddy, bluehost, etc. will upgrade to RoR 1.1? Is this going to be like PHP 5 where it has to percolate for a year or more before it becomes widly available? Your thoughts? Along the same lines... is it possible to adopt some of the new improved Ajax / javascript capabilities without actually upgrading the ruby installation?

Rails: Good for everything?
My department is in a battle right now. We have some very por PHP people and very pro Rails people. The php guys make a good argument that Rails is good for new applications where we dictate the DB schema. PHP shines where we go into an existing application, or a new one where multiple databases or possibly legacy systems are involved. The PHP guys basically say Rails is good for Web 2.0

Ruby/Rails facts?
I found these facts while in #ruby-lang irc? <duracell8> 1. Limited Pool of developers who know Ruby. Get developers to nominate if Ruby will be their secondary language. <duracell8> 2. The serving of Ruby Apps from Apache using FastCGI is broken the world over. It causes periodic process and database connection blowouts. Move to a Mongrel Pack. <duracell8> 3. Limited

Ideas for Rails Shirt Graphics
I''ve had a couple ideas for Ruby on Rails shirt graphics for a little while now: 1. "Fuck You" superimposed over, oh, probably a Ruby gem. Or Rails of some sort. 2. "Ruby on Rails" superimposed over rails of cocaine. Maybe also with a graphic of a crazed looking coder. Anybody got graphics? Or can make them? Heh! Joe -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
