Should Perl talk to Rails via LWP
Hi folks,
I need your opinions on a basic design issue.
I''ve seen the light of RoR and have replaced my Perl (DBI/CGI) based web
server <-> RDBMS communication with RoR, but I still have a whole host
of users (other servers/OS''s etc) out there wanting to talk to my
RDBMS and they only talk Perl. Also they don''t want to talk Perl/DBI
directly (they are not allowed

Error with Web Service tests after upgrading to Rails 1.1.2
Hello.
I hope this is the right place to describe my problem ?
After upgrading to Rails version 1.1.2 from rails version 1.0.0, Web
Service functional tests seem broken.
I upgraded rails (as the root user / administrator) with:
# gem update rails --include-dependencies
then I upgraded my application (as myself) with:
? rake rails:update
% rake rails:update:configs
After these steps,

I''m trying to use the feature of AWS where it will take an object derived
from ActiveRecord::Base instead of an AWS::Struct object. Whenever I try
it, though, I get the craziest error:

currency conversion webservice in a rails app?
Hi,
I''m interested in using a currency conversion web service in my rails
app. Does anyone have a free service that they use and like? I found
this one
http://www.webservicex.net/WS/WSDetails.aspx?CATID=2&WSID=10
I''ve tried to make a simple, plain Ruby script to connect to this and
get a conversion rate without success.
How do I integrate a webservice into my rails app? I

In Changeset 2021 there is the following commit message:

XML-RPC Webservice API
Hi,
After following the excellent tutorials in the Agile Web Development
with Rails book, I was able to get my webservice working pretty much
perfectly :)
I can access it via SOAP and XML-RPC and look at service.wsdl to find
the API. What I can''t do however is get the API for the XML-RPC call. It
fails with :
Internal protocol error: NilClass is not a valid input stream. It must

web services with ActionWebService
<noobalert>
Uh, yeah. So my noob self is showing through again. I''m trying to
write a simple hello-world type web service with the ActionWebService
thingy. I didn''t get very far. I''ve only done web services stuff in
.NET, so I''m not exactly used to this sort of thing.
Anyhow, I have a file, person_api.rb in my app/apis folder. I want to

Web Services testing... Agile Book p. 435
I am attempting to test the web services added during chapter 20 of the
Agile book. The code as written in the book yields 2 errors:
test_find_product_by_id(BackendControllerApiTest):
XMLParserError: syntax error
Anyone hit this yet and get it to work?
Thanks.

Rails Web Services
This deals with the Rails book, but ActionWebService in general.
I''m having trouble getting the Rails book''s example in the Web Service
chapter working. Everything else works (all the ''depot'' site features up
to that point have been built and work). I don''t think it''s an issue
with the book code being wrong, because the ActionWebService API

Arrays of objects as parameters to webservices
I think I am missing something terribly obvious. Is it possible to have
an :expects parameter for a webservice that is an array of objects? I
want to have a single webservice that expects all my line items (for an
order). Is this something that is possible?
