Creating a symbolic link within a Rails application?
Hi, how does one create a symbolic link within a Rails application? At this time, I can perform this action at the command line but I''m not sure how to do it within Rails. BTW, I''m doing the following command in Mac OS X: ln -s $SITE_ROOT/common_directory/* $SITE_ROOT/new_directory Thanks in advance, -Conrad -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

Easiest way to deploy a ruby on rails site
Hi, i am looking to deploy a ruby on rails site. I currently have some asp.net 2.0 sites hosted using IIS. I have looked at some of the issues with hosting a rails site on IIS and this looks more hassle than what it is worth. I tried it and i couldn''t get it to work. Can someone tell me what is the easiest way to get a rubyonrails site up and running on a server running windows.

Rails Masters'' debugging techniques -> Rails Recipes?
Hi, This msg for Chad Fowler or anyone who fits the subject line. I bought the Recipes book and really like the way it has been progressing. There is one subject I''d like to see explored in detail. Having come from Assembly and C background I find that a ''must have'' tool in your collection is the debugger. I find debugging a Rails App the most thorny issue inversely

RSpec and the Basecamp API
I realise that this is kind of a basic question but I''m new to rspec and still trying to work out how to do things. I''m working on a rails project that requires basecamp integration via the api, which is fairly trivial to use via the basecamp.rb wrapper: Connection: basecamp = Basecamp.new(APP_CONFIG[''api_host''], APP_CONFIG[''api_username''],

Which mysql for a new project?
Hi all, I am about to start a new RoR project. Which version of mysql is the current best one to use? I will be using the soon-to-be-released RoR 1.0 for the project. I really don''t want to start a PostreSQL vs. MySQL vs. Whatever war. I have all databases including Oracle at my disposal. This project will be my testbed for using RoR with mysql. I will be doing other tests with other dbs

To Do list project?
I''m looking for a good web-based to do list app. Essentially, I''d like to use Basecamp''s todo management system, but that''s not an option since I can''t install Basecamp on a server I own. The information being tracked in the list cannot be sent out of my intranet. I would imagine that there are a couple of open source rails apps that would meet my

redirect_to("url") with post?
Is there a Rails-friendly way to redirect_to an url and post some parameters with that? I''ve tried: redirect_to("http://whatever.com", { ''postme'' => ''this'' }) redirect_to("http://whatever.com", :post => { ''postme'' => ''this'' }) redirect_to("http://whatever.com", :options

Basecamp API
Seeing as how the new Basecamp API reflects a similar use of RoR that I have been working on I''m curious as to what we can expect to be extracted from there in 0.13? Was the API written as an ActionWebService or just as a set of controllers? Any generic AR xml parsing/output methods that we may see in 0.13? Any reason you decided to do everything with HTTP Get instead of utilizing

Would you switch jobs for the chance to use Textmate?
Lets say you had a pretty decent job, but your company mandated use of emacs. The poaching employer offers you a free copy of Textmate(tm). Would you jump ship solely in order to use Textmate at company B? Cheers, Dave -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

convert HTML to LaTeX or text
Hi all, I have a RoR app which can output a report in HTML back to the web browser, or (preferably) in PDF using the RTex plugin. I have a number of text fields which are stored as HTML, and am looking for a good way to convert them to something LaTeX-compatible, or plain text if that''s the last resort. I''ve seen a number of html2tex-type converters out there, but they are by

Agile Web Development book - version 4.0 released
I don''t know if I missed this on the list, but the Agile Web Development with Rails book is now at version 4.0, for those of us who bought the PDF from the Prag Prog site. Just a few typos and corrections from the looks of it, but can''t hurt to get the latest. You can reorder the book for download at: http://books.pragprog.com/titles/rails/reorder Cheers, Tom

+ camping/session
Camping now comes with a sessioning class, checked in tonight. To get sessions working for your application: 1. require ''camping/session'' 2. include Camping::Session in your application''s toplevel module. 3. In your application''s create method, add a call to Camping::Models::Schema.create_schema 4. Throughout your application, use the @state

Apache 1.3 + remote FastCGI balancing
Cheers, As I have a lot of stability problems with Lighttpd + FastCGI-Cluster I wanted to test Apache 1.3 as most of the "big" sites like 43people or BaseCamp run on it. Every example I find only talks about lokal FastCGI processes and not about remote ones and explains how the requests are balanced. Are there any good examples out there and can Apache1.3/mod_fastcgi load balance
