Migrating rails 1.0 app to 1.1 - Noob question
Hi all, I''ve upgraded my system to Rails 1.1.1 successfully.
After much looking I haven''t found out how to migrate an existing
application to a new rails version though. What is the procedure, if
any, for upgrading the application I''ve developed in 1.0? Is there a
script I need to run?

Capistrano and Certificates
All,
I''m setting up a deployment script with Capistrano at the moment, and
am running into some trouble when it attempts to pull the code down
from the SVN server when I run the deploy task.
The SVN server runs over https, and the problem seems to be when I get
asked whether I want to accept or reject the certificate. I hit ''p'' to
accept the certificate permanently,

MySQL error when running rake migrate
Running rails 1.1 and MySQL 5 on Kubuntu. I moved the same rails project
from one machine to another. To set up the database I try to run `rake
migrate` but I am greeted with the error/stack trace below. Any idea why
this could be? It doesn''t seem to be a permissions problem--I can login
to the database as my application just fine. I tried downgrading MySQL
to v4.1 because that is

rake db:migrate "undefined method `default'" error
Hi all,
Just starting with Rails and working through the early chapters of the
Pragmatic Programmers Agile Development with Rails book (2nd addition).
When doing a "rake db:migrate" to add a column to a table I get this:
undefined method `default'' for
#<ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::MysqlAdapter:0xb7517ec8>
Any ideas?
thanks,
David

rake db:migrate problem
I am just starting out learning RoR. I am trying to follow along with
the Depot project in "Agile Web Development With Rails ed2" and get the
error "You have a nil object when you didn''t expect it! You might have
expected an instance of Array. The error occured while evaluating
nil.[]" I ran --trace and get the following, but I am not sure what it

Demo in rails2.pdf of add_price migration, PostgreSQL 8.1.4
People,
I''m looking at the migrate example on p 74 of the rails2.pdf
It''s a simple example of using a migration to add a column to
the products table.
Here is a copy of the migration file named 002_add_price.rb
after I generated and then edited it:
class AddPrice < ActiveRecord::Migration
def self.up
add_column :products, :price, :decimal, :precision => 8, :scale

You might have expected an instance of Array.
The error occured while evaluating nil.first
Any idea what might be wrong? The migrations look right. It''s talking to

help with "rake db:migrate" error please?
Hi,
Just trying to get my first database based rails app up on
dreamhost.com. The app was working prior to putting in mysql DB usage
but I''m just stuck on getting the app working with mysql. I''ve already
created the database and can connect to it manually.
Below is the error I get after running the rake migrate. It worked OK
on my home PC environment. I did change the

Cannot rake migrate on OS X After New Install, Tons of Debugging
I''m getting ready to go to the Rails Studio in Pasadena next week. As
part of the prep for that event, I was instructed by the Pragmatic
guys to download and install a new Rails 1.0/Ruby 1.8.4 configuration
to my OS X 10.4.4 box. I did that three or four days ago. Ever since
then, I cannot run a rake migrate command successfully anywhere in my
Rails world. (Mind you,

Ferret install, rake failing on make
I''m currently trying to install the latest version of Ferret (0.10.9)
on my Ubuntu Dapper (6.06) system. I have tried the gem, but it does
not generate the ferret_ext.so file. Ideally I would prefer to install
from the gem, but if source works, I''m fine with that too.
I am now trying an install from source, but when I run the command ''$
rake ext'' I get the

follow_redirect! aborts rake during integration tests
I''m running integration tests on Rails 1.1/Ruby 1.8.4/Windows XP and have
found that any call to follow_redirect! (directly or through
[get|post]_via_redirect) causes rake to abort (see command line output
below). Has anyone else seen this error, or know what might be the trouble?
Thanks!

rake errors - not as helpful as they could be
hi list -
i recently attempted to run rake for a first pass at some tests and ran into
a mysterious failure. rake indicated that it had aborted running the tests
but provided little information on exactly why this occurred. the only bit
of information it did offer was that i could use --trace for a full trace.
of course i did that hoping it would provide more detail, but it didn''t help
