[PATCH 5/6] xen, tools: calculate nr_cpus via num_online_cpus
Once Xen calculates nr_nodes properly, all nr_cpu calculations based on nr_nodes * sockets_per_node * cores_per_socket * threads_per_core are broken. The easy fix is to replace those calculations with a new field, nr_cpus in physinfo which is calculated by num_online_cpus(). This patch does so and attempts to change all users over to nr_cpus field in physinfo. This patch touches

Jumbo frames problem with Realtek NICs?
I was trying to do some performance testing between using iSCSI on the host as a diskfile to a guest vs the VM guest using the iSCSI device directly. However, in the process of trying to establish a baseline performance figure, I started increasing the MTU settings on the PCI-express NICs with RTL8168B chips. First bottleneck was discovering the max MTU allowed on these is 7K instead of 9K but

Query
My research indicates that it is possible to run Excel 97 with standard wine using a real FAT Windows partition. So far, drawing heavily on http://www.winecentric.com/ I've been unable to get it to work. I'm running the 20020904 version, and have mutilated my wine config nearly beyond repair in an attempt to get excel to run. I've tried running all native dlls, all builtin, etc, and

Exim as default MTA?
Yes, I've been reading /. :) But this isn't the first time this has occured to me. With all the security vulnerbilties, would it be unreasonable to either change the default MTA from sendmail to Exim/Qmail/Postfix, or give people the option of installing something instead of Sendmail at install time? -- Avleen Vig "Say no to cheese-eating surrender-monkeys"

lock file information
Does samba store information on lock files in a tdb somewhere? If we have a process that has a lock on a file that we can't get samba to surrender, is there a recommended way of forcing samba to release it? For example, a process on machine A has file B on server X open an locked.. and the machine A hangs for some reason never releasing the lock on file B. Is there a recommended way to tell

Mapping usernames
Dear all I am trying to configure samba username map file in order to map the same user from a windows domain to 2 different unix users: Map to = map from bea = PRODUCTION\garcijo mpcadmin = PRODUCTION\garcijo but only works for the first map in the map file. When I try to use a share with permissions for mpcadmin unix user, I realize that smbd takes the first map (bea user) and

I don't think I'm trying to do anything amazing, but IPFW's logging features are giving me a real headache. I can't find much in the archives either, but I find it hard to believe others havne't found this too. My rule: add 100 allow log tcp from any to <my IP> <ports> limit src-addr 2 I want connecting parties to be able to form no more than 2 connection. This

[PATCH] linux: Allow actually using CONFIG_XEN_BLKDEV_TAP=m
Again, this got broken. It would be really nice if regression testing included building as a module everything that can be configured as such... As usual, written and tested against 2.6.23 and made apply against 2.6.18 without further testing. Signed-off-by: Jan Beulich <jbeulich@novell.com> Index: head-2007-10-15/arch/i386/mm/hypervisor.c

option 'auth users' in rsyncd.conf
Hi there, this is my first posting to this list, so let me quickly introduce myself. I'm Alex and currently working on a new version of the rsync package for the eisfair Linux distribution?. I have some problems understanding the behaviour of the 'auth users' option in the rsyncd.conf file when running rsync in daemon mode. I set up a module and a secrets file. This is the behaviour

TC Newbie Questions
Having never worked with Linux TC before, I have a few questions about setting it up and am not certain I understand the Howto well enough to do what I specifically want. I have a linux firewall talking to my cable modem, as well as the rest of my network. I have 4 things I''m trying to accomplish, in order of priority: 1) I use a VoIP phone, and want to give it as much bandwidth as
