Whats the best Ajax way to update a textarea''s text?
I am looking for a way to update the text-value within a textarea from
an Ajax render call inside of a controller. Is there a way to do this
without rendering an the partial containing the textarea?
Thanks,
Andy

Problems with repeated calls to setTimeout?
Prototype.js and Thomas''s effects scripts use repeated setTimeout calls
for timed looping, for instance in time-based observers.
On Konqueror 3.4.1 (possibly other khtml-based browsers, too), these
observers reproducibly crash the browser. Just keeping open a browser
with such an observer is enough. After some time it invariably
segfaults. When I substitute setInterval for setTimeout

Layout Question w/ code from vendor library
I am new to Ruby on Rails in general and apologize if this question is
trivial and/or has been asked before ( my searches did not turn up any
threads ).
I am using the cookies function from actionpack which I have located in
my vendor/rails/actionpack directory.
Using:
cookies[:username] and cookies[:password]
from within a controller file works just fine, I am able to set and read

anyone can help I would greatly appreciate your suggestions.

RJS templates outputting bloated code?
I''m an RJS newbie. I just did the tutorial at
http://www.codyfauser.com/articles/2005/11/20/rails-rjs-templates, and
then used wget to look at the output the RJS template generates. This is
what I got:
try {
new Insertion.Bottom("list", "<li>Fox</li>");
new Effect.Highlight("list",{duration:1});
Element.update("header", "RJS

form_remote_tag can only have one submit button?
I setup a form_remote_tag with several submit buttons, all of them share
the same name
( ''do_action'' ) and their values differ.
eg.
button1 named do_action with value ACTION1
button2 named do_action with value ACTION2,
etc
No matter which button I press the value passed is always the one
defined for the first of these buttons ( the correct value associated
with the pressed

Not getting the whole RJS-based partial rendering concept ...
I have been trying all kinds of different ways to produce what I think
should be a simple effect, but have not had any luck yet and apparently
I am not following the general idea...
What I am trying to accomplish is the following (part 1 works and part 2
does not):
1. One of my views has a link_to_remote which updates a div container
with a table of data
my example is

form_remote_tag : additional onsubmit funct. possible ?
Is there a way to add onsubmit functionality to a form_remote_tag with
an additional javascript directive?
eg I''d like for an inline javascript to make the form''s div container
hidden as soon as the button is pressed to avoid having it possibly get
pressed again ( sometimes the rails response is slow enough for a user
to think they need to re-press it ).
example:

Really Slow Effects
Hi,
Please check out http://rixth.org/index.php (you can login with
username mr password mouse). Create a todo list, then press ''open''.
Add a few items (after about 8, is when it happens to me) then click
close. THe animation is not very smooth for me, it only displays about
3 frames. This is not because it is pushing a lot of content down

IFRAME based RJS - responds_to_parent
** File uploads with AJAX mojo **
Respond with RJS to your parent window with a form action targeted to
a hidden IFRAME. Handles all the painful situations like scoping
your JavaScript to your parent window generating the script block for
execution and clearing the IFRAME after execution so the back button
doesn''t re-execute the action.

Comet support?
Just out of curiosity, is there a plan to support Comet (name coined by the
dojo guys) w/ prototype? Comet represents persisting an http connection for
low latency data operations. It also represents a nice alternative to
polling.

Sans Periodically call remote-- possible?
I was wondering, imagine this situation. You have browser 1 on machine 1
and browser 2 on machine 2. I created a div so that I can update certain
elements on the database. Is it possible to have the data rendered on
browser 2 using ajax but without using the periodically call remote? Is
it possible to use the submit event from browser 1 to trigger browser 2
to update?
thanks,

Confusion with expressing many to many relationship
Hi folks, I am in the process of converting an existing non-rails
application to rails, and am not sure what the best approach would be
for specifying the relationship between the two sets of data.
I''ll describe the existing table structures first.
Table 1: Urls
Each url has a unique id and two lists of Phrases, these are currently
setup as varchars with "," delimitation -

Delay after entering digits with IVR
I have a [start] context that all my inbound and '0' calls are routed
into.
Because of the way I want to set my system up, I want to prompt the user
to enter a 1 if they know the extension, or a 2 for a directory and
nothing else.
It works, however there is a 5 to 10 second delay after enter the 1 or 2
before the system responds.
I have read over the wiki on how asterisk handles digit

file upload with form_remote_tag
Is there a way to use form_remote_tag and to upload a file? The default
behavior ignores the upload when the Javascript serializes the form to
create the parameter list.
Basically, i''m just looking for an ajax file upload capability. Any help
would be appreciated.
thanks.
