Has many / belongs to error with mysql
Hi,
I''ve got stuck with a problem on my rails app - I''ve created a database
for quotes and bookings, with a futher table "eventdetails" (details of
a quote or booking) linked one-one for both tables using a polymorphic
assciation. This all works, but I am now trying to link a quote to a
number of bookings with a has_many and belongs_to (the foreign key is in

Multi-parameter assignment
Hi,
I''m trying to submit data from text boxes on a form to one variable in
my controller, in the same way that datetime_select has date(1i),
date(2i), etc for day, month, year, etc...
I''ve named my variables event[start_date(1i)] event[start_date(2i)] and
event[start_date(3i)] but this doesn''t seem to work and
event[:start_date] is blank ... any pointers would be

How to put a form for one controller in another controlers view
Hello,
If anyone could help me out with this problem I''d appreciate it...
I''m making a database of event bookings, I have an events table and a
clients table. I''d like to include a form to create a new client in the
form for creating a new event.
This would update the parent form with the new client_id using AJAX
methods (see previous e-mail) so you''d

Validating a DateTime
Hi,
Does anyone know of a method to validate a DateTime field?
I''ve looked at the validation docs and the validates_date /
validates_time plug-in but I can''t find a method to validate a value in
the format of yyyymmddhhmm. It seems like something that should exist
already, so I''d just like to check before I attempt my own version...
Cheers,

(no subject)
Greetings!
I'm sure the solution is simple, but describing the problem is long. Here
goes.
I have a samba server on my network of mostly windows machines, and all
works fine.
The windows machines can read and write and create files and directories
just fine.
I have a Linux machine on the network and although it can mount and read
the files on the Samba server, I can not write to it. When

Mac OS X crash bug?
Hi all,
I want to check if this is a bug for which I should file a report.
I am using R2.5.0 on OS X 10.4.9. When I invoke the data editor and
when I change the values of individual cells, it seems to work as
intended. However, when I try to delete/add a row/column, R.app
crashes. I've attached the crash log.
Best,

`stack level too deep` when overwriting `to_json`
I''m using
[acts_as_commentable_with_threading](http://github.com/elight/acts_as_commentable_with_threading/),
and it worked fine until I tried to overwrite the to_json function to
include more details about the associated user.
Here''s part of the comment class (which was originally defined in the
plugin, but I moved it to the models folder, a move which seems not to

can''t get date_select to work
Hi,
I render a couple of date_select fields, the HTML looks fine, I can
see the values submitted back to the server, but AR doesn''t pick them
up from the hash in Booking.new(params[''booking'']).
I''ve got a ''booking'' object with parameters product, startdate and
enddate.
HTML snippets:

Small Date Formatting Question regarding datetime_select()
Is there a way to make datetime_select() dropdowns work on a 12hr
clock? I need to make a input field that works exactly like the
reminders datetime selecton dropdowns in Backpack to populate a
datetime field in my DB. i.e in the format: month, day, year ? hour
(1-12) minute am/pm. Should I change my database to have a separate
column for date and one for time and use date_select()?

Executing SQL in rails, and the types of the data returned
Hi,
Every once in while I have to run SQL by hand, in my models mostly. But
I''m wondering if there is a better way of doing it than I do. And, I
have a question concerning types of the fields in the result the query
produces.
First, about the types. In a certain model, to get and return the value
of a boolean function, I have to do:

Hi,
I''m trying to do a bulk update on an array with the helper text_field.
I''m trying to create an inputfield for every object in the array, but
I''m not getting it right...

class ClassA
@arrayB[]
end

Forms: handle foreign keys (AssociationTypeMismatch)
Hi all
I tried and tried and tried, but I still fail in creating a form with
proper validation and stuff for foreign keys... So I''d really like to
get some help here.
I''m creating a booking site for DJ''s, and for every booking one can
choose one of different countries:

Unit test fails on different line the second time it''s run
I''ve got a very peculiar problem with unit tests. First, I clone my
development database with "rake clone_structure_to_test", then I run my
test with "ruby investment_product_score_override_test.rb". It fails on
line 68. Then, every test run after this, fails consistently on line 34.
How is this possible? I don''t use fixtures and I don''t use

DB data type enforcement in Active Record
I have a question about how ActiveRecord handles data types.
When I enter text in a text_field (meaning, a field in the GUI) which
belongs to a numeric field in the database, Active Record automaticly
converts it to 0, because that''s what the to_f/to_i method of a string
does. Is it also possible to have Active Record enforce the types, so
that when you enter text for a numeric

define_method with parameters
Hi,
I''m trying to write a macro which defines methods. One of these should
have a parameter, but I can''t get that to work. Something like:
define_method("printstuff") do
puts "blabla"
end
works fine. But, how do I use define_method to create something like:
def printstuff(the_stuff)
puts the_stuff
end
Thanks in advance.

Schema help for Studio booking app
Hi, I''ve offered to make a web based studio booking system for the
university I attended to replace their old pen and paper approach and
I''m having some trouble deciding on the best way to organise the
database.
What will happen is the students (or tutors) will log in and be
presented with a weekly calendar view of the studios, along with details
of existing bookings. They
