I''m having trouble capturing the params from a select type form. For text field like this: <%= text_field_tag :courseid %> I''m able to capture the posted value with this params[:courseid] However with a select field like this: <%= select(:course, :id, %w{value1 value2 value3} %> I''m not sure how to capture the posted value. -- Posted via

Unacceptibly slow.
I currently have a fairly simple Rails application running on FreeBSD under Apache 1.3 and normal CGI, and the performance I''m getting is alarmingly poor. I realize CGI or WebBrick are quite a bit slower than FastCGI, and I''ll probably use one of those instead when I have the time. However, I''m just curious if CGI is really supposed to be that slow, or if

Can''t quite get Rails working on Mac, help please :).
I''ve followed the install the install guide on http://hivelogic.com/articles/2005/12/01/ruby_rails_lighttpd_mysql_tiger and it seemed to work. Broken config/lighttpd.conf? (in EdgeRails)
I''m using Mac OS X, I installed Ruby/Rails/lighttpd/etc via the instructions from hivelogic. I think I''ve found a bug with EdgeRails, but I''m not sure how to submit it (and maybe I''m doing something wrong and someone can just point me in the right direction). Anyway I thought I''d report it just in case it is a bug. I''ve downloaded

Rails on lighttpd locks up, freezes, unresponsive every day
I have RoR running on lighttpd on RedHat Linux and every morning that I check the web page it just keeps waiting to refresh it forever, Firefox and IE never times out on any of the pages I try. Has anyone seen that happening to their RoR? I also removed lighttpd completely and just ran webrick but there was no difference. The linux box has a pretty old kernel 2.4.21-4, could that be the

Why you MUST use SCGI for Rails development
Hello happy Railers, I used to develop with a local out-of-the-box Apache and load times were pretty slow (like a few seconds each page). "Well, it''s the price to pay for no compile / cache / etc..." I thought. Nonsense. Yesterday I installed SCGI, and now I''ve got the best of both worlds: rails development env uses my very latest modifications, while SCGI ensures I

1.1RC and Lighttpd
I started what I thought was going to be a 30 minute project on the train this morning to write a little timetracker for myself. Amongst other things (don''t have a model called Task as it conflicts with Rake at the moment, don''t have a model called Action as it disappears in the hash when you submit a form :-), I had to use Webrick as Lighty complained about an unknown

Webrick not showing sql queries any more?
Hi all, I updated rails to 1.1.2, and somehow, when I run script/server on a new rails project, I don''t see the sql queries in the console any more... It was very useful to see them live... Does any one have any idea why? Thank you very much! Nauhaie -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Lighthttpd not working as default (configuration?)
Hi, On the api doc it is written that if lighttpd is installed, rails will use it as its web server instead of WebBrick. I have installed lighthttpd and verified it works (for example on the default port 80) but when lauching script/server, it still uses WebBrick. I wondering if I need to edit /etc/lighttpd/lighthttpd.conf myself or configure something else. Any idea? Thanks Oscar

Lighttpd now works for production. Development is broken?
I''ve finally gotten lighttpd working for my production instance (SUSE 10.0 with SSL). (Had to install the fcgi dev toolkit, the SUSE 10 ruby-fcgi rpm, and the fcgi gem. I''m not positive all 3 were required, but that is what I did.) Now the devel instance of my app is broken. I''m not sure how to fix it. Previously I was using WEBrick for both devel and production.

Routing problems - Apache proxy vs. Webrick direct
I dropped the use of fastcgi because I could not get popen working (see ''[Rails] Apache2 and popen''). It works under WebBrick. Since CGI is too slow, I thought I''d proxy to WebBrick via Apache. I am having routing problems now with escaped slashes in the URL. Here''s my routes.rb: map.connect '''', :controller => "wiki"

[ Rails ] Multiple rails apps on 1 host
Team, I''m trying to figure out how to run 2 rails apps on one host. I ran an experiment: cd /tmp/ rails app1 rails app2 cd app1 script/server rails put a copy of lighttpd.conf in /tmp/app1/config/ and then started lighttpd http://localhost:3000 gave me the splash page. I shutdown the server I added something to /tmp/app1/config/lighttpd.conf server.modules = (

Newbie Question about Custom Classes
Sorry if this is a complete newbish question, but I''m trying to wrap my head around creating custom classes in my rails webapp. I''m normally a Java developer, but I figured I''d give RoR a try and see how I like it, and whether it would be useful for production use with a new client. Anyways, what are the best practices for custom classes? Where and/or how do I create

Tunneling in capistrano twice
Hi there, The default recipe expects you to be able to access your web server directly from your local machine. On our web server, for security purposes, it is only possible to ssh to it through one particular ip (which is also a remote machine.) The capistrano source is so compact and tidy it looks very hackable. But rather than messing around I thought I''d ask first if anyone else
