Hi R Community, I've just completed the initial version of (Linux-based) R package, called *makesweave*, for using Make to build Sweave documents efficiently. The idea is that R is started once (per shell) as a background process, then Make builds each Sweave source file, using the same R instance. More information in the package vignette. The help file for "[<-" (and "[[<-" doesn't contain those functions in it's usage section ( .../src/library/base/man/Extract.Rd ). Although that file lists "[<-" and "[[<-" as aliases, it doesn't document them in a formal manner (consequently, the "value" argument is not described in the "arguments" section.)
