Open Files
I have been messing with this and it seems to work, but I would like to hear
if it does or not from the people that have created it.
On a WindowsNT machine I have three directories shared out READONLY. These
three directories are mapped to users machines and then they run programs
out of them. There are ALWAYS people using files in here. At times I have
to update the programs in there and I

Problem with gsl package
Hi all,
I am new to R and am writing after having contacted Robin Hankin, who
maintains the R gsl wrapper.
I am trying to use an AFNI (neuroimaging analysis) program that depends
on the R gsl package. When I try to use the script I wrote, I get an
error that led me to suspect the gsl package was a culprit. When I do
library("gsl") within R, I get:

Analyze Fmri package
Hi,
Can you please help me?
Whenever I try to run f.ica.fmri.gui(), R crashes.
In the GUI, I selected an *.img file and I checked the 'Create mask' box and
I typed a name for the object and then I press 'Start' button. Then in the
R Console window it said 'Reading...Whitening', but after the Whitening
message an error window popped up and then R crashed.
Did I do something

analyse fMRI statistical maps in a mixed procedure (within-subject and between-subject error term)
Hi all,
I have a set of 3D statistical parametric maps derived from an fMRI experiment in which we have two levels of dependency.
- All subjects were scanned twice.
- All subject are dizygotic (non-identical) twins.
For every single scan (and thus statical map) we have a behavioural measure, which we would like to regress against the set of maps, while correcting for the dependency between

R for Computational Neuroscience?
Hi all,
I've noticed that many computational neuroscience research groups use
MATLAB. While it's possible that MATLAB may have some features
unavailable in R, I suspect that this may instead simply be a case of
costly tradition, where researchers were taught MATLAB as students and
pay for it as researchers because it's all they know.
I'd like to attempt to break the cycle by

PLS regression on near infrared (NIR) spectra data
Dear collegues,
I´ ve worked with near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to assess chemical,
physical, mechanical and anatomical properties of wood.
I use "The Unscrambler" software to correlate the matrix of dependent
variables (Y) with the matrix of spectral data (X) and I would like to
migrate to R. The matrix of spectral variables is very large (2345 columns
and n lines, where n =

Nested ANCOVA question
Hello R experts,
I have having a difficult time figuring out how to perform and interpret an ANCOVA of my nested experimental data and would love any suggestions that you might have.
Here is the deal:
1) I have twelve tanks of fish (1-12), each with a bunch of fish in them
2) I have three treatments (1-3); 4 tanks per treatment. (each tank only has one treatment applied to it)
3) I sampled

Random intercept model with time-dependent covariates, results different from SAS
Dear list-members
I am new to R and a statistics beginner. I really like the ease with which I can
extract and manipulate data in R, and would like to use it primarily. I've
been learning by checking analyses that have already been run in SAS.
In an experiment with Y being a response variable, and group a 2-level
between-subject factor, and time a 5-level within-subject factor. 2

Is there rpm for suse 9.1 under x86_64?
I recently upgraded to Suse 9.1 for Amd64.
So far I could not find precompiled binaries of R-1.9.1 for this case.
So I tried installation from source, but could not succeed. Although the
configuration/installation procedure ran without problems, the make
check always ended with errors. When trying to run R , to see what's
going on, the eigen() reported error code -18.
So, is a rpm for
