Morans I for Spatial Surveillance
Hello, I am interested in using Morans I for different time intervals to detect disease clusters. Ultimately I would like to use CUSUM - or similar monitoring statistic to monitor the results of Morans I - similar to the work by Rogerson (2005) Spatial Surveillance and Cummulative Sum Methods in Spatial and Syndromic Surveillance for Public Health. Thus far - thanks to the list I have

R - Understanding output of the Knoxtest (Package (surveillance))
The function knox of the "Surveillance" package performs Knox test for space-time interaction. The output is supposed to give the numbers of events that occur in a specific distance in space and time define by the function arguments. This function also perform a Monte Carlo permutation test, which give the estimated value (based on a random distribution) which are supposed to be compared

Grandstream surveillance devices
I just got a spam from telephonydepot (which I invited to spam me, so I guess I have to call it legit marketing :) ), and they have some new device that is meant to be a surveillance camera with audio, but the interface is POE and SIP! A cool idea. Anyone playing with this toy yet? I am trying to wrap my head around how asterisk might fit with the model of this camera being

OT: Video Surveillance SW on CentOS
I suggested to our Homeowners Association that we begin a Private Forum (phpBB) and web site. That suggestion has been well received and we will proceed with that. Now, I have become involved in a much more complex and important project, which is Video Surveillance, for the entrance to our subdivision. I Googled and found two (2) things for Linux that seem to be OK: (a) ZoneMinder

[ANNOUNCE] Btrfs v0.9
Hello everyone, I've just tagged and released Btrfs v0.9. Special thanks to Yan Zheng and Josef Bacik for their work. This release includes a number of disk format changes from v0.8 and also a small change from recent btrfs-unstable HG trees. So, if you have existing Btrfs filesystems, you will need to backup, reformat and restore to try out v0.9. You can find download links and other

Menu addditions to Rcmdr v0.9-6
1) In general, I would appreciate help in adding functions to the Rcmdr menu system. I've been able to modify the menus themselves and source test code but I can't get R functions to execute from the menu. My latest proof of concept code follows: Three lines added to "Rcmdr-menus.txt": menu junkMenu topMenu "" ""

ISO 8601 Weeks/Years on Windows with strptime
Dear R-help, I am working on a R package for public health surveillance where the ISO 8601 representation of dates is of importance. Especially, the ISO Week and ISO Year of a date needs to be extracted. I was quite happy to find all of this implemented in the "Date" class with appropriate calls to strptime/format (using e.g. %G and %V). However, only later I realized that this

qcc package & syndromic surveillance (multivar CUSUM?)
Dear R Community: I am working on a public health early warning system, and I see that the qcc package allows for CUSUM and other statistical quality tests but I am not sure if my project is a good match for qcc functions as written. Any advice you may have is very much appreciated. I have four years worth of daily counts of emergency room admissions for different conditions (e.g. respiratory,

inconsistency in treatment of USE.NAMES argument
Changing the vapply() behavior makes sense in principle. I analyzed the CRAN code base using the R parser and found 143 instances of calling vapply with USE.NAMES=FALSE. These would need to be inspected to understand the consequences of the change. For reference: /AzureML/R/datasets.R:226 /BBmisc/R/toRangeStr.R:33 /DBI/R/DBDriver.R:205 /Kmisc/R/str_rev.R:37 /Matrix/R/diagMatrix.R:98

How to mimic pdMat of lme under lmer?
Dear members, I would like to switch from nlme to lme4 and try to translate some of my models that worked fine with lme. I have problems with the pdMat classes. Below a toy dataset with a fixed effect F and a random effect R. I gave also 2 similar lme models. The one containing pdLogChol (lme1) is easy to translate (as it is an explicit notation of the default model) The more parsimonious

run R script automatically by double-clicking WinXP desktop icon
I've written a simple script that does some surveillance analysis on daily counts of walk-in clinic visits, for our county health department. (Actually, Michael Hohle's surveillance package does all the work; I just customized it a little to work with the way our data are recorded.) The output consists of a graph and a little table. My colleague will run it once in a while, on

FW: test of spatial dependence?? - ask a geographer (was ask an ecologist)?
No, you do not necessarily need the XY coordinates. You can also use polygon (field, in your case) adjacency information. See Rogerson, Peter A. 2001. _Statistical methods for geography_. Thousand Oaks: Sage. You might also look at GeoDA, a free and soon-to-be open source spatial analysis package. For your application, it might be easier to use than R. lme_2.9-2.tar.gz available soon on CRAN
I recently uploaded a new version of the lme contributed library to the main CRAN site. It should be available on mirrors within the next 24 hours. This version matches the beta version of NLME 3.0 for S-PLUS. It only provides methods for linear mixed-effects models in R so it is called lme rather than nlme. The other big thing that is missing in the R version is all the graphics because they
