Cohen's Kappa for beginners
Hi, I've got two vectors with ratings from two coders, like this: x<-c("red", "yellow", "blue", "red") #coder number 1 y<-c("red", "blue", "blue", "red") #coder number 2 I want to find Cohen's Kappa using the wkappa function in the psych package. The only example in the docs is using a matrix, which

Is SEM package of R suitable for sem analysis
Dears, I'm a college student and In doing my statistics homework. I use R with SEM package as my tool for sem analysis, but my teacher told me AMOS is more suitable for such analysis. Could someone help tell me whether it is true that some commercial software is better accepted in academic fields? Sorry if I should not post such topics here. -- Best Regards, Reeyarn T. RODBC Access
Dear R users, I am trying to connect an Access database. The code I use is : channel<-odbcConnectAccess("Base") table.db<-sqlFetch(Base,"table",colnames=T) When I look at the table in R, the table imported lacks the first 41 lines, and the column names are the values of the 42nd record. Any hints ? I am working on a WinXP pro 5.1 box, R 2.5-0 compiled from source

Weighted Kappa for m Raters
Hello, I have 50 raters and 180 cases which are rated as malignant, probably malignant, probably benign, and benign. I want to compare all the raters but I want a weighted kappa to penalize differences between malignant and benign more than differences between malignant and probably malignant. I only found the weighted option in the 2-rater functions (kappa2, wkappa, cohen.kappa). The

Overflow in psy.c
In beta 3 (Windows, libvorbis-1.0beta3.zip, compiled using BCB), I get a runtime overflow on line 322 when encoding a simple pure tone (44100Hz, 96kbps, 128kbps, or 160kbps). Changing the float to a double avoids the problem. float val=decay[i]*decscale; float att=fabs(f[i]/val); /// floating point overflow ... Chris http://www.goldwave.com --- >8 ---- List archives:

Possible bug in psy.c
Hi all, I'm quite new to Vorbis, so please excuse me if I'm writing complete nonsense (and, if possible, tell me where I'm wrong). While searching for optimization possibilities in lib/psy.c, I found the following piece of code in _vp_compute_mask(): if(p->vi->smoothp){ /* compute power^.5 of three neighboring bins to smooth for peaks that get split twixt

enhanced MDS
Hi again Sorry, in looking again at sammon and isoMDS I see that they seem to do exactly what I want, except that they are non-metric, which means, as I understand it, that they relate the rank orders of the variables rather than the actual distances. Could I use these non-metric MDS packages even if my distances are metric? Thanks Karen -- Karen Kotschy Centre for Water in the Environment

PCA and automatic determination of the number of components
Hi all, I have relatively small dataset on which I would like to perform a PCA. I am interested about a package that would also combine a method for determining the number of components (I know there are plenty of approaches to this problem). Any suggestions about a package/function? thanks, Nick -- View this message in context:

concordance correlation coefficient using R
Hi. I have data which i would want to assess the degree of agreement between two assays, e.g., to evaluate reproducibility or for inter-rater reliability. I have used the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient. It looks good ranginging between 0.90 to 0.998. Though this looks good. I am told the Concordance correlation coefficient will give a better picture of how reproducible the assay

online tutorials
I work for a Investment group with a very extensive training program and we are having our new hires take a statistics course at University of Chicago where they have to complete some assignments with R. I was wondering if there are any online tutorials that exist where we could get our participants comfortable with R before the class itself? I appreciate any help at all. Thanks, Matt Maxon

Logistic regression model selection with overdispersed/autocorrelated data
I am creating habitat selection models for caribou and other species with data collected from GPS collars. In my current situation the radio-collars recorded the locations of 30 caribou every 6 hours. I am then comparing resources used at caribou locations to random locations using logistic regression (standard habitat analysis). The data is therefore highly autocorrelated and this causes Type
