StructTS (PR#7353)
Dear R-bugs
I have been studying the StructTS function (in package 'stats') and
functions supplied with it. I think I have found a few minor bugs in the
documentation.
I am referring to the version of StructTS supplied with the release R 2.0.0.

Advice on parsing formulae
Dear list
I would like to be able to group terms in a formula using a function that I
will call tvar(), eg. the formula
Y ~ 1 + tvar(x:A) + tvar(z) + u + tvar(B) + tvar(poly(v,3))
where x,u and v are numeric and A and B are factors - binary, say.
As output, I want the model.matrix as if tvar had not been there at all. In
addition, I would like to have information on the grouping, as a vector

listening experiment
Hi All,
I was wondering whether there have been some listening experiments done
to test how well spatial information is preserved in the celt signal,
e.g. comparison of sound localization performance for the original
uncompressed sound and the celt sound (most probably for different bit
rates).
Best, Pablo

possible bug in "sspir" package?
Greetings,
I sent the message below to the developer of the contributed R package
"sspir", but have yet to receive any response. I would be very grateful
for any advice people have on the matter.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi
In the Samba HOWTO (ch. 24 section 24.3.2) is written
"When winbind is used, the default condition is
that the local user george will be treated as the account DOMAIN\george
and the foreign (non-member of the domain) account will be treated as
MACHINE\george because each has a different SID."

New package: eba
I have recently uploaded a new package to CRAN called eba,
which stands for elimination-by-aspects models.
It allows for fitting and testing probabilistic choice models,
especially the BTL model (Bradley & Terry, 1952; Luce, 1959),
elimination-by-aspects (EBA) models (Tversky, 1972), and
preference tree (Pretree) models (Tversky & Sattath, 1979).

Kalman Smoothing - time-variant parameters (sspir)
Dear R-brains,
I'm rather new to state-space models and would benefit from the extra
confidence in using the excellent package sspir.
In a one-factor model, If I am trying to do a simple regression where
I assume the intercept is constant and the 'Beta' is changing, how do
I do that? How do i Initialize the filter (i.e. what is appropriate to
set m0, and C0 for the example below)?

How should I define my classes and methods in "dynamicGraph"???
(That is - Can some one point me to the documentation on
how to put classes and methods in packages with a namespace? )
Currently it is done by the code below.
This gives problems, when a workspace with a "dynmaicGraph" is

Re. the Kings Quest game called R,
Inspired by the "stats4" of R-1.9.0 (alpha of 2004-03-15)
I moved the body af my function ".onLoad.dynamicGraph"
to the end of ".../dynamicGraph/R/dynamicGraph"
(replacing "library(methods)" by "require(methods)").
The secound run, with [Previously saved workspace restored],
produces the same result as in

Samba and connections to LDAP timeout
Hi
We have an all SAMBA Domain (all samba-3.0.23d) running with two
OpenLDAP servers (2.3.27).
We experience quite a few NT_STATUS_IO_TIMEOUTs when using smbclient.
Windows clients just experience delays (up to several minutes).
I've done some debugging:
On the client i issue:
smbclient -Umhansen //lfs1/mhansen
lfs1 is a domain member server.
On lfs1 (log level 10) i get the following in

Time Series information in formulae
Dear List
The UKgas data is stored as an object of class 'ts'. I am trying to use "UKgas"
in a formula as argument to a function. However, I do not know how to access
the 'time series' information in the response (such as start() end() etc.).
Here is a boiled down example.

celtenc two channels
Hi,
To enable stereo in celtenc do I need to change anything other than
#define CHANNELS 1
to
#define CHANNELS 2
The reason is after I do this the audio sounds distorted. Please let me
know if I need to do anything else or whether I need to investigate
what's happening at my end further.

TeX distribution on Windows
I'm looking for a Windows distribution of TeX that works with R, after a
few years' absence from Windows. On Duncan Murdoch's Rtools page fptex is
still recommended, but it turns out that fptex is "defunct" as of May 2005,
see
http://www.metz.supelec.fr/~popineau/xemtex-7.html
So, what is suggested? TUG (tug.org) recommends something called proTeXt,

DNAmixturesLite and KinMixLite
Dear all,
We are pleased to announce that CRAN now hosts our packages
DNAmixturesLite and KinMixLite.
These are fully R-based versions of our packages DNAmixtures and KinMix,
which rely on a commercial software, HUGIN, for performing efficient
computations in Bayesian networks. The lite versions rely instead on
gRain for such computations.
DNAmixtures provides statistical methods for DNA
