Problems working with large data
Hi, I'm working with a numeric matrix with 55columns and 581012 rows and I'm having problems in allocation of memory using some of the functions in R: for example lda, rda (library MASS), princomp(package mva) and mvnorm.etest (energy package). I've read tips to use less memory in help(read.table) and managed to use some of this functions, but haven't been able to work with

Consistency of m-shapiro.test
Hello all, I tried several experiments with the mshapiro.test package in R and compared it with the energy package to test for multivariate normality and find that the mshapiro.test is not consistent which is a bit concerning and has suspicious behavior. On the other hand the energy test seems to be a more appropriate test for testing multivariate normality in any dimension. I looked for the

multivariate normality test
Hello, Could someone help me to explain the VERY big difference in applying two tests on multivariate normality: library(mvnormtest) data(EuStockMarkets) mshapiro.test(t(EuStockMarkets[15:29,1:4])) Shapiro-Wilk normality test data: Z W = 0.8161, p-value = 0.005955 and library(energy) mvnorm.etest( EuStockMarkets[15:29,1:4] ) Energy test of multivariate normality:

trouble with Vista & reading files
All, I am having trouble with a "read.table()" function that is inside of another function. But if I call the function by itself, it works fine. Moreover, if I run the script on a Mac OS X (with the default Mac OS X version of R installed, rev 2.8), it works fine. But it does not work if I run it on windows vista (also default Windows version of R, rev. 2.8). Again, both

Installing R and an editor on a USB drive
Hi, I have adviced my students to install R and an editor on a USB drive for working in the computer class. With R everything works fine following these instructions: http://personal.bgsu.edu/~mrizzo/Rmisc/usbR.htm. But several editors (e.g., Tinn-R and WinEdt) require administrator rights. I have found out that Emacs (Vincent Goulet's Emacs for Windows Modified

WIN 98 password problem
Hi! I'm new on the list, so please, be patient with me! I have a problem for wich I can't find the answer in the FAQ. Until recently I was running a 16 PC-s network with SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 and Samba 1.9.16p11 on the server and mixed clients (Win 3.11 to Win 95 OSR2). The users on the network have access to a PUBLIC directory on they own user directories on the server without

SAMBA 1.9.18p10 problem
I have been using Samba 1.9.18p8 in a Solaris 2.6 machine for months but suddenly this week there is a problem. Nothing's changed. I have some persistent connection of my NTSP3 client to the samba share. When I login as usual, it fails to mount the drive. It either prompt for password but whatever password the samba rejects, or give a "Access is Denied" when you try to access the

Need some guidance re: two domains sharing the same workstations
I fought with this a few months back, and was never able to resolve it, so I'm back at it trying to get things to work before classes start again in January. Here's a brief summary of the situation: I am responsible for 2 departments, Math and Socialwork, which are located in the same building and share the same network. Each department has its own samba server (RHEL4/CentOS4) and domain

[ANNOUNCE] libX11 1.6.3
This release of libX11 looks bigger than it is, due to a lot of spec/doc cleanup work that doesn't affect the code itself. There is still a good deal of bug fixes, code cleanup, locale improvements, and compose key table additions, including new UTF-8 compose sequences for: <Multi_key> <R> <equal> : "<U+20B9>" U20b9 # INDIAN RUPEE SIGN <Multi_key>

Re: Need some guidance re: two domains sharing the same workstations
Hello Matt, I've had similar misfortunes too with interdomain trusts. I think you're working along the right lines since you seem to want to do the same thing as I. However the NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL is an error I always get when trying to connect to the IPC$ share of the PDC of the trusting domain. In my case the trusting PDC is a Windows 2003 Server. I know it's not an issue

Energy estimation from encoded opus packets
As a diagnostic tool, I would like to try and determine if an opus packet is essentially silence or not, without decoding the packet. Do you have any advice on whether this is feasible and what parameters to examine in the Opus frame? Kevin O'Connor -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
