Given that a number of us are housebound, it might be a good time to try to improve the approximation. It's not an area where I have much expertise, but in looking at the qbeta.c code I see a lot of root-finding, where I do have some background. However, I'm very reluctant to work alone on this, and will ask interested others to email off-list. If there are others, I'll report back.

pnmath compilation failure; dylib issue?

Perl error - Can't locate R/Rdconv.pm in @INC

Internal error in 'ls' for pathological environments (PR#14035)
nchar(with(list(2),ls())) gives an internal error. This is of course a peculiar call (no names in the list), but the error is not caught cleanly. It is not clear from the documentation whether with(list(2)...) is allowable; if it is not, it should presumably give an error. R-beta: cannot make R
Can anyone help? I am trying to install R-0.62.2 on a Sun with OS 5.6 (Solaris 2.6), and gcc/f77. Unfortunatley the simple commands ./configure --prefix=/opt/R make did not work, complaining when building help/docs. It claims to have problems perl (which has worked fine so far) but in practice it is not only a documentation problem: if I force "make install" and run R, then it

Deep copy of factor levels?
Hi It seems that selecting an element of a factor will copy its levels (Ubuntu 13.04, R 3.0.2). Below is the output of a script that creates a factor with 10000 elements and then calls as.list() on it.
