rsync.r-project.org available again
The rsync site is back up. It may take a while for the new location to percolate through the DNS servers. The site should be bates at bates4:~$ host rsync.r-project.org rsync.r-project.org is an alias for bates4.stat.wisc.edu. bates4.stat.wisc.edu has address 128.105.174.134 and not the previous site, franz.stat.wisc.edu, which was comprised.

Running ./tools/rsync-recommended through a proxy
My computers at my office will no longer be able to connect directly to web sites etc. I will be going through a proxy server. The particular server is running squid on port 3128. I have managed to configure web browsers, ssh, apt, svn and a whole lot of other tools to use the proxy server but I haven't been able to configure rsync. My usual method of updating my copy of the R-devel

rsync fails with 2 sources
I have this failing every times I want to "update" the "destination". I've tried through SSH (from my box -/home is a NFS mount point here- to the backup one) or directly through "local transport" (because /home/ is a local RAID-5 mount point on the backup box). $ rsync -v -e /usr/bin/ssh -ax --delete \ /home/beta /home/worx \

CRAN now also rsync-able
Following a suggestion by Doug Bates (half a year ago or so ...) I have set up an experimental rsync server for CRAN, i.e., it is now also possible to mirror CRAN using rsync for those who prefer it. The command rsync -rl ftp.tuwien.ac.at::CRAN /destination/dir should copy the complete CRAN ftp area into /destination/dir. Any comments on wether the server works are appreciated. I'm not

Could you make the 2.6.9 source available via http again?
I noticed you've made rsync 3.0.0 available at http://www.samba.org/ftp/rsync/rsync-3.0.0.tar.gz, which is great! However, until it's upgraded (if ever), the buildroot system I'm using to build embedded linux tries to download rsync 2.6.9 from http://www.samba.org/ftp/rsync/rsync-2.6.9.tar.gz, which fails since this file is no longer available -- even though it's linked from

NLME-3.1 package available for R-0.90.0
With the assistance of Saikat DebRoy we have produced an nlme package (linear and nonlinear mixed-effects models) for R (see http://www.r-project.org/ for details about R). The nlme package for R requires R-0.90.0, which was released earlier today. Also released today was NLME 3.2 for S-PLUS. We will be working on incorporating the changes from NLME 3.1 to 3.2 into the R version but we wanted

R benchmarking program
Hi All, I've just rebuild the latest R with the Goto BLAS on our new Intel quad core machines. I did a few basic matrix calculations, and I was very impressed by the performance I saw. I wonder if anyone has a more rigorous benchmarking program for R. I downloaded a old R test/benchmarking program (see below), and this didn't work with the current R, and so I wondered if anyone could

NLME: gls parameter evaluation inconsistency (PR#4757)
Full_Name: W.B.Kloke Version: 1.8.0 OS: FreeBSD-4.7 Submission from: (NULL) (195.253.22.63) I found a parameter evaluation inconsistency in NLME package. I tried to use gls() inside a function, and I wanted use gls() for different subsets of a data frame: prgls <- function(name){ gls( log10(Y)~(cond-1)+(cond-1):t ,pr,subset=subject==name)} Applying this function with a string as parameter

Using rsync from Windows
I've just installed the Cygwin version of rsync, with an aim of syncing to the development version, as recommended on <http://cran.r-project.org/sources.html>. Could someone give an example of the syntax to invoke it? From the man page, I expected rsync rsync.rproject.org:: to give me a file listing, but I get: unknown host: rsync.rproject.org Other network utilities (e.g. ssh)

Configuring Rsync daemon with ssh (non-root)
Hello, I am a first time user of Rsync. I am having problems configuring an Rsync server on a Solaris server on which I have *no* root previliges. I have searched the archives and the web,but none of the articles/documents have proved helpful beyond an extent. Since I cannot be root, I have installed rsync v2.5.2 from sources in $HOME/rsync. The rsync binary is in $HOME/rsync/bin My
