I've put all ``current'' add-on packages into CRAN's source/contrib tree

Creating shared libraries for dyn.load() in R
Dear R-users,
I am working to install Chong Gu's new gss library on my Linux system
(Redhat 5.1/i386), and have run into the following roadblock: Dr. Gu's R
code is a front end for a package of Fortran routines called RKPACK. While
I have no trouble compiling
the individual bits of Fortran code with fort77 in Linux, I don't know how
to link the resulting *.o files into a shared

CRAN downtimes
Hi,
we had a broken heating system (in the floor above us) resulting in a
water burst .... my office looks like if a bomb has exploded ...
Currently our server is up and running again (it was down over the
weekend) ... but we will move out of the devastated rooms and hence
the CARN master might be down one or more times during the rest of the
week. We'll try to keep the down times as short

tutorial "R pour les débutants" is available on CRAN
Dear R-users,
Thanks to Friedrich Leisch, my document "R pour les d?butants" is available
on CRAN in the contributed documentation section:
http://cran.r-project.org/doc/contrib/Rdebuts.pdf.
It is written in French. "R pour les d?butants" ("R for beginners") gives a
starting point for people with no experience with R (or S). I tried to

CRAN Server download statistics (Was: R Usage Statistics)
Hi All,
It seems that the question of how may people use (or download) R, and it's packages is one that comes up on a fairly regular basis in a variety of forums (There was also recent thread on the subject on Stack Overflow). A couple of students at UCLA (including myself), wanted to address the issue, so we set up a system to get and parse the cran.stat.ucla.edu APACHE logs every night, and

CRAN now also rsync-able
Following a suggestion by Doug Bates (half a year ago or so ...) I
have set up an experimental rsync server for CRAN, i.e., it is now
also possible to mirror CRAN using rsync for those who prefer it.
The command
rsync -rl ftp.tuwien.ac.at::CRAN /destination/dir
should copy the complete CRAN ftp area into /destination/dir.
Any comments on wether the server works are appreciated.

R-alpha: RData in batch
Just a word to mention that I have lost 2 hours yesterday to find out why
R refused to use a function from a package calling C-code.
R invariably answered that the C code was not in the load table (something
like this). I have tried everything (or nearly) to solve my problem
knowing that this same package used to work on my computer at the
university.
Finally, I found out that running the same

Run Sweave and LaTeX directly from command line
Hello!
Those of you, who use Sweave a lot, will probably find my shell script
usable. You can get it at:
http://www.bfro.uni-lj.si/MR/ggorjan/programs/shell/Sweave.sh
No warranty, however don't hesitate to contact me if you find an error or
have a patch!

Sweave and R output: possible to suppress "Schunk" tags in *.tex file output?
Hello,
I would like to fill the rows of a Latex tabular environment with output from
R, as in
\begin{table}
\caption{Table caption.}
\label{tab:events}
\begin{tabular}{c r r r r r}
\hline
<<echo=false,results=tex>>=
fill.my.table.rows()
@
\end{tabular}
\end{table}
Sweave produces the output inside \begin{Schunk} and \end{Schunk} commands,
which latex doesn't

incorrect URL (PR#1764)
Hi -
a tiny bug report:
the list of mirror sites given at www.r-project.org/
mentions
http://cran.mirror.aarnet.edu.au/
This domain does not exist (well, from Western Australia
netscape says the domain doesn't exist) but I found
the mirror at

orphaning CRAN packages
Dear R Developers,
the following CRAN packages do not cleanly pass R CMD check for quite
some time now and did not have any updates since the time
given. Several attempts by the CRAN admins to contact the package
maintainers had no success.
