SuSE RPMs available
Hi,
first versions of RPMs of R and its libraries for SuSE 5.3 are available
at CRAN:
ftp://ftp.ci.tuwien.ac.at/pub/R/bin/linux/suse/

1. cd to a directory where you keep emacs lisp files

2. Retrieve the compressed the
zipped file `ESS-5.1.19.zip' from one of the FTP.

Emacs & ESS under Windows
After the discussions about appropriate editors under Windows to use with
R, I have managed to install Emacs, XEmacs, and ESS under WinNT 4.0, and
these work fine. It's not necessary to compile anything to use R with ESS,
just to install Emacs and ESS, and do a few modifications in some files.
XEmacs is also easy to install but apparently ESS cannot run with it

including R in the SuSE Linux distribution
Dear R people,
This message is not a message for help, so strictly off-topic, but I
wanted to reach as many users of R as possible. Please excuse the fact
that it is off-topic.
I use Linux, and the distribution I use is the German based commercial
distribution SuSE. SuSE prides itself on trying to be a comprehensive
distribution of free software. However, they do not include R (or for that

Because NEXTSTEP doesn't support dynamic loading, I've compiled

section of CRAN) which I find

getting ess/emacs to link with a remote instance of R
I am running ess/emacs on Linux and have an R instance running on a
remote Unix server. I would like to be able to direct input from my ess
buffer to R (hope I am using the right lingo, I am new to emacs).
The ess manual contains a section describing how to do just that, but a
prerequisite is to install a lisp file ssh.el , which can be found at
