complete stumper: variable exists in hidden_field_tag, but nil everywhere else
This is a real mystery to me. I have an instance variable in a partial that only gives its value inside a hidden_field_tag. If I try to use the variable anywhere else in the partial, i either get nil or an undefined error. The goal is to use the value of @event.id outside of hidden_field_tag. Here''s what works: <%= hidden_field_tag ''id'', @event && @event.id,

form_remote_tag : additional onsubmit funct. possible ?
Is there a way to add onsubmit functionality to a form_remote_tag with an additional javascript directive? eg I''d like for an inline javascript to make the form''s div container hidden as soon as the button is pressed to avoid having it possibly get pressed again ( sometimes the rails response is slow enough for a user to think they need to re-press it ). example: <div

AJAX form inside table - error
Hello, I need to put an AJAX, form such that it is inside a table, and spans across few rows. But, what I am noticing is that, while submitting the form, the data in the fields is not submitted. If I move the form outside the table or inside a cell, things work OK, but not when the form is inside the table and spans few rows. This problem is only with AJAX forms, regular forms work perfect. Retaining multiple select values from action to action?
Suppose I have a multiple select form on an initial page called things[], and two target actions. The initial page submits to target action 1, and target view 1 submits to target action 2. When I submit the form on the initial page, I can access that set of values in target action 1 and turn it into an array of objects by doing something like this (assuming that the option values are object ids,

memcache, sessions, fragments, oh my!
Hi all - I am trying to get rails to use memcache for sessions and fragment caching. I''d also like to use the same connection for general caching of this and that. I''m following the instructions here: http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowtoChangeSessionStore and hitting a brick wall. I''m using the new memcache-client since from what I''ve read

White Screen of Death
Hello, I''ve heard these words to describe a RoR application returning an empty page. This happen from time to time even here, in the forum. That is the cause of this misbehaviour ? Is it related with something external to RoR itself ? What is the solution to avoid the WSOD ? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Scaling Rails with Apache 2.2, mod_proxy_balancer and Mongrel
Cheers, I''ve just published a blog post about scaling Rails with Apache 2.2, mod_proxy_balancer and Mongrel. This way you do not need another proxy server or load balancer for Mongrel. Just use Apache 2.2 and mod_proxy balancer. http://blog.innerewut.de/articles/2006/04/21/scaling-rails-with-apache-2-2-mod_proxy_balancer-and-mongrel Jonathan -- Jonathan Weiss

Apache 1.3 + remote FastCGI balancing
Cheers, As I have a lot of stability problems with Lighttpd + FastCGI-Cluster I wanted to test Apache 1.3 as most of the "big" sites like 43people or BaseCamp run on it. Every example I find only talks about lokal FastCGI processes and not about remote ones and explains how the requests are balanced. Are there any good examples out there and can Apache1.3/mod_fastcgi load balance

: Indexed Search Engine 0.1.3 Released
Hello all, IndexedSearch Engine for Rails Engines version 0.1.3 has been released. IndexedSearch is a simple, pluggable engine for rails applications which can be used to enable full text indexed searches within an application. Searchable data is parsed, stemmed using the Porter stemmer, and added to a fully indexed table. This allows you to index things like "he runs fast" which will
