hang-up with log="x" and segments (PR#1030)
I experienced the following problem with R 1.3.0 which is probably a bug. The program hangs-up if 1.) a coordinate of segments is outside the ploting region and 2.) the option log="x" is used. ## ## works fine ## plot(1,1, xlim=c(0.5, 2), ylim=c(0.5, 2)) segments(0.5 , 1.2, 1, 0.6) segments(0.25, 1.2, 1, 0.6) segments(1 , 1.2, 1, 0.6) ## ## hang-up ## plot(1,1, xlim=c(0.5, 2),

foreach + snowfall for multicore situations
Hello dear R community. I just started playing with the snowfall package (a wrapper for the snow package), and found it very convenient. (See also this great website: http://www.imbi.uni-freiburg.de/parallel/ ) I was wondering if it is possible to connect snowfall with the foreach package (since it has some connection to snow). My final goal is to do some simple parallel simulations on my two

wrong calculation of R-squared in summary.lm
Dear all, I just stumbled upon the fact, that when I perform a regression on multivariate responses, that are not centred, I get a ricilulously high R-squared value. After reading the code of summary.lm, I found a bug in the function summary.lm: mss is calculated by: mss <-sum((f - mean(f))^2) - where f are the fitted values. This works only for a single response variable, because

DFS-R (Replication) ??
Hello, I read that replication with DFS-R requires NTFS filesystem on both sides, because it accesses the "change journal". (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773238%28v=ws.10%29.aspx) Can I use DFS-R between samba4 and windows if I use ntfs-3g? If not is it planned to support DFS-R in a future version of samba? thanks, Klaus -- Klaus Hartnegg, Universität Freiburg,

A new task view on survival analysis
Dear all, A new task view on survival analysis is now online. It attempts to deal with all the R-packages that permit to analyze time-to-event data. Any comments or suggestions to improve the task view are very welcome. Best regards, Arthur Allignol Freiburg Center for Data Analysis and Modeling, Freiburg University, Germany

Self heal problem
Hi, I have a glusterfs volume replicated on three nodes. I am planing to use the volume as storage for vMware ESXi machines using NFS. The reason for using tree nodes is to be able to configure Quorum and avoid split-brains. However, during my initial testing when intentionally and gracefully restart the node "ned", a split-brain/self-heal error occurred. The log on "todd"

pxelinux : filenames without prefix
Hi, I am trying with 3.09 to use filenames without prefix in the following manner: dhcp.conf: ... filename "/a/pxelinux.0"; ... default: ... kernel ::/test/vmlinuz-smp append initrd=::/test/initrd-smp.gz ... With ethereal I see that the kernel is requested as expected. But the initrd is requested as /a/test/initrd-smp.gz . Btw, from the TODO file:

Re : Help on competing risk package cmprsk with time dependent covariate
Hello again, I m trying to use timereg package as you suggested (R2.7.1 on XP Pro). here is my script based on the example from timereg for a fine & gray model in which relt = time to event, rels = status 0/1/2 2=competing, 1=event of interest, 0=censored random = covariate I want to test library(timereg) rel<-read.csv("relapse2.csv", header = TRUE, sep = ",",

Suppressing Scientific Notation
R gurus, Every so often(*) someone asks how to suppress scientific notation in printing, so I thought I'd give it a shot, but I need some help. The formatting decision is made(**) on line 286 of src/main/format.c : if (mF <= *m) { /* IFF it needs less space : "F" (Fixpoint) format */ where mF is the number of characters for "normal" printing and *m is the number

Fetching Binary data from SQL Server
I am trying to write a customized app using C that would fetch voice file from SQL Server 2000 using ODBC and FREETDS. Currently I am only able to fetch first 63 KB chunk from the DB, and not able to fetch the rest of the file, below is the code that i am using to do so, fd = open(fullpath, O_RDWR | O_CREAT | O_TRUNC, 0770); if (fd < 0) { ast_log(LOG_WARNING, "Failed to write

R upgrade fails on r-cran-class
Hello all, I encountered a problem using the recommended backport method to upgrade R from 2.7.1 to 2.11.1 in a Debian lenny system. r-base cannot install, and I tracked it down to a r-cran-class dependency: # apt-get install r-cran-class Reading package lists... Unknown internal error
Hello, I just found this message in our dovecot logfiles: "Disconnected: BUG: Unknown internal error" Should I worry about this ? There are no complaints yet (although it is not limited to one user). It seems to occur with different clients (Apple/MacOS mail, Windows/Thunderbird, Pine). We're running dovecot 1.0.10 on Solaris 10 with mboxes (NFS) and local index storage. There are

svm regression in R
Hallo, I have a question concerning SVM regression in R. I intend to use SVMs for feature selection (and knowledge discovery). For this purpose I will need to extract the weights that are associated with my features. I understand from a previous thread on SVM classification, that predictive models can be derived from SVs, coefficiants and rhos, but it is unclear for me how to transfer this

Multiple CPU HowTo in Linux?
Hello all, I upgraded my R workstation, and to my dismay, only one core appears to be used during intensive computation of a bioconductor function. What I have now is two dual-core Xeon 5160 CPUs and 10 GB RAM. When I fully load it, top reports about 25% user, 75% idle and 0.98 short-term load. The archives gave nothing helpful besides mention of snow. I thought of posting to HPC, but this system
