Install config: lighttpd dead but pid file exists
I''m trying to run rails on RHED (centos 4) by following this tutorial:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/RailsOnRHEL
and something is gone a bit astray during the install process that is
not allowing lighttpd \ apache to run rails on the web.
Since i''m running Centos, I should mention I''m NOT running SELinux.
As it is, i''m at a total loss as to why

Tunneling in capistrano twice
Hi there,
The default recipe expects you to be able to access your web server
directly from your local machine.
On our web server, for security purposes, it is only possible to ssh
to it through one particular ip (which is also a remote machine.)
The capistrano source is so compact and tidy it looks very hackable.
But rather than messing around I thought I''d ask first if anyone else

Lighthttpd not working as default (configuration?)
Hi,
On the api doc it is written that if lighttpd is installed, rails will use it as its web server instead of WebBrick.
I have installed lighthttpd and verified it works (for example on the default port 80) but when lauching script/server, it still uses WebBrick.
I wondering if I need to edit /etc/lighttpd/lighthttpd.conf myself or configure something else.
Any idea?
Thanks

Rails/lighttpd: Changes to controller not being seen?
This is a weird one:
My app works fine on our local box with webrick. After uploading to TxD
server, the app starts behaving weirdly. I make some edits to one of
the controllers and my changes don''t seem to be going through. So I go
ahead and change the name of the controller file. The page loads
without error. I figure maybe I''m in the wrong directory, so I change

I upgraded to Rails 1.1 (ruby 1.8.2 and ruby 1.8.4 on RHEL 4 using
webrick or fastcgi) and all of a sudden I get this hitting a

more selinux problems ...
Hi,
how do I allow lighttpd access to a directory like this:
dr-xrwxr-x. lighttpd example unconfined_u:object_r:samba_share_t:s0 files_articles
I tried to create and install a selinux module, and it didn?t work.
The non-working module can not be removed, either:
semodule -r lighttpd-files_articles.pp

Rails 1.1 in Production
My hosting company is still supporting only Rails 1.0. I have installed
Rails 1.1.2 to my vendor directory and deployed it in production which
should mean that my application should be using the Rails version in my
vendor diretory. But It looks like its still using local gem libraries, here
is the error from dispatch.fcgi when I try and invoke my app

Correct way to capture a select param
I''m having trouble capturing the params from a select type form.
For text field like this:
<%= text_field_tag :courseid %>
I''m able to capture the posted value with this
params[:courseid]
However with a select field like this:
<%= select(:course, :id, %w{value1 value2 value3} %>
I''m not sure how to capture the posted value.

production environment
So I''m getting ready to setup a production environment on my boxen (running
Fedora Core 3), what are my options? I''ve seen a number of posts about
FastCGI, SCGI, etc. and am completely lost as to what I should be setting up
on my box (that I hopefully won''t have to touch for a while).
I need to run Collaboa, Typo and probably 3 or 4 other apps on this, so

Lighttpd Config
Hi this is a newbie question that should be easy enough for somebody to
answer, I''m horrible at this web server configuration stuff.
I''m running Rails on Fedora Core 5 with Lighttpd and MySql. I''ve created a
rails application ''logapp''. I have an entry in /etc/hosts like...
127.0.0.1 logapp
So when I point my browser to ''logapp''

ror/lighttpd - HTML files via port 80 become application/octet-stream?
Hi everybody
I am trying to get RoR to work with lighttpd.
Nearly there, but I am stuck with a strange phenomenon.
If I configure lighttpd to serve pages on say port 2000, I can get at my
testapp fine and see the "Welcome aboard" page.
However, if I configure lighttpd to use port 80, I get a download prompt
from my browser.
If I access my URI like

Best Approach to a ''Down for Maintenance'' Page?
What is the best way to implement a ''Down for Maintenance'' page across
your Rails app?
Ideally I would like to have a button in my admin section that toggles
the display of a ''currently under maintenance'' page to every public
request to the app (possibly with some dynamic content like estimated
down-time)
except for: -
- requests from a specified IP

Cooky Cookies
Hi All,
I have a problem with the stemming(?) in rails. I have a table cookie and a
Cookie model which I have generated a scaffold for. The problem is that
rails starts looking for a file that it calls "cooky.rb", this must be some
kind of misunderstanding between me and rails, but how do I correct it?
Other scaffolds work just fine.
