Ajax and IE6 - is there some sort of "trick"?
Hi, I''ve got some Ajax stuff that shows more or less of a complex form based on a radio button selection. A "radio_handler" controller action is the action for a form handler. Some seemingly simple "replace_html" fires as a result of different radio buttons being chosen (which should then show more or less of the form). This all works just great on Mac Safari and

habtm confusion
Hello friends! I am trying to make a database that will have a group of people set to committees, and a person can be in multiple committees, and a committee obviously has multiple people. The people are senators at my university. These are my current models: senator.rb: -- class Senator < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :first_name, :last_name, :floor has_and_belongs_to_many

observe_form not serializing form
I want to use observe_form to automatically save notes in a text_area. This is the code I have: <form id=''notes_form''> <%= text_area :contact, :notes, :cols => 40, :rows => 10, :id =>''notes_text_area'' %> <%= observe_form(''notes_form'', :frequency => 1,

newbie question regarding basic AJAX form verification
Hi, I''m confused about how form verification with AJAX works. Let''s say I have a ''new.rhtml'' view that contains a form with two fields, and the form action is ''create''. Let''s assume that I also want to do some type of data validation on one of the two fields via AJAX before I submit the form. But since I''ve already

observe_field, does this generate HTML?
I don''t have Rails installed at the moment, I''d like to check myself, but it''s just a simple curiosity. observe_field fits into replacement tags <%= %>, which caught my attention because as far as I know it''s just javascript observing a field and should not stick anything into HTML. Is <%= merely used as an enabling method, or will there actually be

beginners question
hi group, I am making a little rails app to experiment with rails. It consists of one model, item, that represents an item on a todo list. A todo item has a description, a state (finished or not) and a due date. After changing the scaffold screens a bit, I wanted to be able to have no due date. I tried to do this by making a radio button; if ''no date'' is selected, the date

bad move? - complex form with *many* observe_field's
I have a pretty complex form with many text fields and a number of selects. We let the user add multiple types of associated objects to the parent object and to edit the values for those associated objs, so the form can have something like the following number of fields on the page: 9 text fields + 3 selects + a*(1 text + 1 select) + b*(1 text + 1 select) + c*(1 text + 1 select) + d*(1 text +

Using RJS templates with observe_form
Hi there, I''ve been checking out RJS templates, and have been trying to use them with the observe_form helper. However, the form values are no longer being passed in the params (as soon as I point the action to the non-rjs and add the ''update'' clause everything is working again). Is this expected? Cheers, Dave -------------- next part -------------- An

in place edit, save on blur
I thought I''d seen some discussion on this, but can''t find it. I have a text area that I''d like to save on blur unless the user clicks cancel. Anyone got a nice example of this? It''s non-obvious to me how I force the submit via javascript. Thanks, pt. -- Parker Thompson http://www.parkert.com/ 510.541.0125

dom id on form_remote_tag
I want to make use of a form_remote_tag to submit a form asynchronously. Easy done. However, we also want to add an observe_form tag to check for some value changes while the form is being entered. The observe_form tag needs a dom id to work on but I can''t see how to enter an html option for the dom id of the form on the form_remote_tag. Any ideas? Here is the form tag so far...

forms, javascript and ajax - hopefully an easy question
Right now I have a simple form hooked up. Now that the form is smooth and functional, I want to add a feature that I''m not sure how to implement. After a user modifies a form, I''d like to have a visual cue appear somewhere to show that the form has been changed and needs to be saved. It could be a red div at the top of the screen - anything - it is doesn''t matter. Just

observe_form without ajax?
This betrays my lack of javascript knowledge, but is it possible to watch a whole form for changes and activate some javascript when those changes occur without any remote request? That is, I want to do exactly what observe_form does, but without the ajax call actually happening. I realize I could use the form_tag :onchange parameter, but that seems to be incapable of doing things like

Give focus to an input field of a form
Hi, I am new to rails and I have setup Typo on my site. One little thing bugs me, the login page doesn''t give focus to the "user_login" field. I was wondering what do I need to do to make rails help with this? I have seen some simple inline javascript to set the focus, sort of like: document.<form_name>.user_login.focus() However the rails view doesn''t
