ror/lighttpd - HTML files via port 80 become application/octet-stream?
Hi everybody I am trying to get RoR to work with lighttpd. Nearly there, but I am stuck with a strange phenomenon. If I configure lighttpd to serve pages on say port 2000, I can get at my testapp fine and see the "Welcome aboard" page. However, if I configure lighttpd to use port 80, I get a download prompt from my browser. If I access my URI like

Can''t stop/start lighttpd
Hello everyone, I?ve been working with Ruby on Rails for about 2 months now and have really enjoyed the ease of use of it. I?m only been doing development on it so I?ve been using WeBrick. Recently, I have built a server running Debian Linux, with ruby 1.8.2, rails 1.0.0, lighty 1.4.3, and Mysql 5.0.18. I used WeBrick to generate a lighttpd.conf file for me, I changed the paths in the

Caching doesn''t work at all...
Installed RoR under lighttpd and noticed that caching some actions didn''t accelerate page serving. The following little example of class TestscriptController < ApplicationController caches_page :index def index @string = Time.now.to_s end end and <html> <head> <title>Test</title> </head> <body> <p>Test</p> <p><%=

Getting multiple rails apps going on a single domain using lighttpd
If you''re trying to get multiple rails apps going on a single domain using lighttpd (example: http://joevandyk.com/typo_1 and http://joevandyk.com/typo_2), check out http://pinkpucker.net/articles/2006/01/31/getting-multiple-rails-sites-going-on-one-domain-using-lighttpd for a working lighttpd and the change you need to make to config/environment.rb to get it to work. Hope someone finds

site takes a while to load after first visit in a while
Using lighttpd + fcgi to power a site. When no one has accessed it in a while, the first visit to the page takes a while to load up. Then subsequent visits are fairly fast. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Switchtower isn''t restarting lighttpd
I''ve got switchtower set up, and it seems to work fine except for one problem: It doesn''t successfully restart lighttpd. I have the following task in my deploy.rb file: desc "Restart the web server" task :restart, :roles => :app do sudo "/usr/local/etc/rc.d/lighttpd.sh restart" end This is on a FreeBSD system, so it''s using the rc script to

Install config: lighttpd dead but pid file exists
I''m trying to run rails on RHED (centos 4) by following this tutorial: http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/RailsOnRHEL and something is gone a bit astray during the install process that is not allowing lighttpd \ apache to run rails on the web. Since i''m running Centos, I should mention I''m NOT running SELinux. As it is, i''m at a total loss as to why

Why is rails using DB objects that don''t exist?
I admit it--I''m newb right now. But only to rails, ruby and friends. I''m walking through a "recipe" tutorial but have been stuck for hours; it''s time to ask for help. On Windows I''ve got the latest ruby, rails, and webrick; I''ve got the Oracle OCI "thing" to talk to our Oracle 10g database, I''ve got Slick Edit and a

Displaying based on hostname/subdomain
Ive tried multiple ideas to get this to work, but keep hitting a dead end. Has anyone done this before? I want joe.domain.com to display www.domain.com/profile/joe Im using lighttpd. Routes dont have access to the URL string and therefore I cant code in a conditional. lighttpd rewrite seems to really screw it all up. Is there a feasible solution? Thank you, Joe Noon

Switchtower Port Issues
Hi there, I''m having some difficulties finding some decent info on getting Switchtower to function for my needs. I''ve read most of the Switchtower doc on http://manuals.rubyonrails.com/read/chapter/97, however it''s not answering some potent questions I have. 1. The doc mentions, as an example, using an SVN repos at http://svn.switchtower.com/flipper/trunk What if I

Weird problem with script/server, lighttpd, and FreeBSD
I installed lighttpd from ports on my FreeBSD-5 system last night, wanting to play with that instead of WEBrick for development work. I installed it, and ran script/server, and got this: [minter@carlton discostu]$ script/server => Booting lighttpd (use ''script/server webrick'' to force WEBrick) => Rails application started on http://0.0.0.0:3000 => Call with -d to

Engine Not Starting
I''ve used login_engine successfully before with webrick, and now using a provider that uses fcgi. login_engine doesn''t seem to start up, in the development log file, I get only routing errors for the page requested. The login_engine unit tests pass fine. My question is if an engine is not loaded, not in a path, etc, how is this indicated in rails? None of the log files even

I''ve got an error that''s only happening on my live webserver, so wanted to test on my local machine in the production environment. I''m running gem Rails 1.1, Ruby 1.8.4, and the server is Lighttpd 1.3.16. Thanks,
