Ubuntu tutorial
I''ve submitted the following to howtoforge.com for approval. My plan
is to create similar docs for OpenBSD, RHEL and installing from
source. I''d certainly appreciate comments on how to improve the
document, and feedback on errors.

Re: Why Does Ruby on Debian Blow?
It will install the latest version available to you, depending on your
choice of debian repositories.
Use synaptic, or search your apt-cache to find the name of the latest
version and install a newer version.
I think stable has 1.8.2 currently.
If you need to add new repositories, you can. then apt-get update, and
search for the 1.8.4 version of Ruby.
Debian always prefers stability of package

Unable to install R 3.1.2 on Debian:Testing
Hi Mathieu,
thanks for contributing your tips on apt pinning on Debian testing. I have
included similar instructions in the Debian README for the situation where
testing was frozen. This time I thought I would get around to provide proper
binaries for testing quickly enough, but I need to get some other work done,
so I am lagging behind here.
If someone could provide some lines with nice

multiple mongrel clusters
If this was in the docs, I''ve missed it. How can I have multiple
mongrel clusters on a server? All the documentation that I am seeing
seems to assume that I am only running one cluster.

Mongrel Cluster 0.2.1 prerelease
Hi Y''all,
Just a quick note announce an update to mongrel_cluster.
Changes:
- ''mongrel_rails cluster::restart'' now calls ''mongrel_rails stop'' and
''mongrel_rails start''. ''cluster::restart'' now accepts the ''force''
argument instead of ''soft''.
- Added ''.conf'' as

mongrel_cluster 0.1: easy mongrel clustering
Hi y''all;
A quick note to announce the release of mongrel_cluster, a gem_plugin
for Mongrel. This plugin provides commands for managing multiple
Mongrel processes behind a reverse-proxy server and load balancer.
To install:
gem install mongrel_cluster
Configure (use -h to options):
mongrel_rails cluster::configure
Start:
mongrel_rails cluster::start

problem setting up mongrel_cluster 0.1.1
I posted this to the rails list before by mistake, and only later realized
that there is a specific mongrel list.
Uff, I got lost. I had mongrel_cluster 0.1working fine, even with capistrano
(my own hack). Then came mongrel_cluster 0.1.1 and I tried to set it up,
but somehow I messed up things and nothing worked anymore. So here is what I
did:

Time To Pick the Mongrel BUGS Mascot!
Bradley Taylor shot me this *goldmine* of ugly ugly ugly dogs:
http://www.sonoma-marinfair.org/uglydogvote.shtml
I *have* to use one of these for the Mongrel BUGS Mascot. He''ll go on
our bug list page and replace the little beetles on the left.
Pick the dog you think best represents a lovable but defective pooch and
reply to this with your +1.

Another mongrel_cluster prerelease 1.0.1.1
Hi all...
Hopefully this is the last prelease. If people on non-linux systems
could post back any problems with cluster::status, I''d appreciate it.
Install with:
gem install mongrel_cluster --source http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/releases/
Note: This is only an update to mongrel_cluster and not Mongrel or other
gems.

Instant Rails 1.2
According to Zed Shaw who is doing extensive work on Windows at the
moment, there is some kind of bug or adverse interaction between the
Ruby based MySQL driver and Rails 1.1, but it appears the the C base
MySQL driver works just fine.
Instant Rails 1.2 now includes the C based MySQL driver and Ruby on Rails 1.1.1.

Mongrel/Apache and static content
I''m looking for an easy way to have mongrel only serve dynamic railscontent, while letting Apache serve non-Rails content. Unfortunately,it seems that you have to segregate the static content in its ownfolder. That was also the case with the SCGI runner. I used thetrick outlined athttp://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.ruby.rails/23347 to managethis. I was curious if a similar

New automated Capistrano setup for Apache2.1+ and mongrel_cluster
Hi mongrel users!
I just posted a bad-ass capistrano file that automates *everything*
for setting up an apache2+mod_proxy_balancer and
mongrel+mongrel_cluster -- including apache2 setups. It''s based off
Coda Hale''s guide and all Bradley''s work at fluxura and RailsMachine
(thanks Coda and Bradley!).
It''s, well, bad-ass, if I must say so myself. My favorite

cluster vs. rails spawner
It appears the spawner in Rails 1.2 will do Mongrel clustering.
I''m curious what this means for mongrel_cluster. They appear to
overlap in features quite a bit. I don''t think the spawner uses a
config, so that''s one difference. Will they be different enough?
I only ask because mongrel_cluster could, theoretically, be made
extinct if the spawner script has all the same

mongrel_cluster 1.0.2
Hi all...
After a few months of slumber, I''ve booted mongrel_cluster out the door.
Nothing is really new from the prereleases except some bug fixes. I
imagine there will still be some issues with ''ps'' on non-Linux
platforms. I''ll gladly take patches.
Most of the new stuff is described here:

Mongrel 0.3.13 Update -- Code Review, Code Coverage
Hey Folks,
I''ve been holding off the official 0.3.13 release so that Luis can get
the win32 side very nice and clean. We fixed a major problem last night
so it''s only a short time before we get it out. Luis is working really
hard on it, so just be patient.
In the meantime, I''ve been doing a code audit of the Mongrel code as it
is now and fixing any little things I

Mongrel servers running in a subdirectory behind a proxy
I was able to find some information about this in the list archives,
but it ended with a possible patch being submitted for Mongrel.
I tried to follow a few of the instructions, but I''m still kind of
stuck, since I''m not sure if what I''m seeing is the proper results. I
have an application running on a cluster of mongrel servers, which is
behind pen, which in turn is
