A unit test that should pass
Hi, I wonder why this unit test fails. The model : class Article < ActiveRecord::Base set_table_name "publish_articles" belongs_to :category validates_presence_of :title, :excerpt #snip end The test : def test_validate @article.title = nil @article.excerpt = nil assert !@article.save assert_equal 2, !@article.errors.count end !@article.errors.count returns

Error loading fixtures with classes that set_table_name
Hi all, I just hit a big wall involving a legacy database. I''ve got an active record class called "School" that uses "set_table_name ''old_school''" to map to a legacy database table: class School < ActiveRecord::Base set_table_name ''old_school'' end It works great, until I''m testing and I want to use fixtures.

rspec and set_table_name?
Hi there I have a Value class in my Rails app; however ''values'' is a reserved word in MySQL so in my value.rb file, I''ve declared set_table_name as ''vals''. However, in setting up my specs for this model, I''m hitting errors that seem to be resulting from rspec not seeing the set_table_name declaration in my model file. For instance,

Fixtures and unit tests - no such file to load
Hello all, I''m having some issues with my test fixtures and unit tests and am hoping somebody has an idea about how to fix it. Background: I have a table in my legacy database called tp_approval_step. For this table I have a fixture called tp_approval_step.yml I have a model called ApprovalProcessStep that uses set_table_name ''tp_approval_step'' In my test file,

dynamic set_table_name for achives
How can I pass something to set_table_name so that I can switch tables on the fly for accessing archive data? If I could access sessions inside a model I would do something like: if @session[:current_period] set_table_name "statistics_" + @session[:archive_year] else set_table_name "statistics_" + Date.now.year end But since I cannot access the session from within a

set_table_name woes, fragmented domain class
Hi all, I''m running Rails on top of a Mongrel cluster. I have several model classes that are going to have so many records it is not feasible to keep them all in the same table. So I''ve split out the records into many different tables, each with its own suffix which corresponds to the id of the model to which all records in that particular table belong. For example,

set_table_name and self.table_name
I have some legacy tables that I used set_table_name on, I''m attempting to write a method that will get key value from a sequence table and then update it and return a value. I''m hoping to put this in the base ActiveRecord method so I would like to reference the table name with self.table_name or something... class Contacts < ActiveRecord::Base set_table_name

Problem with RSpec in legacy databases
Hello. I am a newbie with BDD. I am trying to use RSpec with some legacy tables and I use the set_table_name method in the models. The name of the table and the class doesn´t match. It seems that there is no problem to load the fixture in Test::Unit, I will use the method set_fixture_class before loading fixtures, and I will get to the data in the fixture without problems. But this doesn´t seem

including database in set_table_name
Hi, Is there any reason why it would be a bad idea to include the database name, ie: set_table_name ''database.tablename'' in my models? We have legacy tables spread across several databases in MySQL and we use separate base classes for each which have their own establish_connection''s to ensure they connect to the correct database. The problem with this is that

Problem with set_table_name
Dear friends, I ran the following in my console.Assume I already have the postgresql connection . >> class D < ActiveRecord::Base >> end => nil >> D.set_table_name "users" => nil >> D.column_names => ["id", "name", "fname", "lname", "password", "addr1", "addr2",

Fixtures: pluraly bitten
With my functional tests (on PgSQL) I get strange errors like this 1) Error: test_create(AufgabeControllerTest): ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: ERROR: duplicate key violates unique constraint "aufgaben_pkey" Tracking this down, I found that sequences are only reset for some of the tables I''m using. The reason? Inconsistent singularization. I won''t go so far as

Fixtures vs Fixture class, what is the intended purpose?
Hello, i am trying to fix the code for fixtures in rails because it is buggy and internal variable names are confusing, could somebody please explain to me what is the intended purpose of Fixture and Fixtures classes respectively? For example, why do we need both `Fixtures.initialize`and `Fixture.initialize`? They both "initialize" a single fixture, and in fact `Fixture.initialize`

load fixtures
I''m finally getting beyond using basic test fixtures, and a few questions have popped up. Has anyone found ways to do these? 1. Use a test fixture that is named differently from its table name? We''d like to have more than one possible fixture per table. (Or perhaps use test fixtures named similarly but in different directories.) 2. Load a test fixture for one test method only

Putting fixtures into subdirectories
I want to organize my fixtures just like the namespace of my models. So for example if I have a model Company::Employee I''d like the fixture to be in fixtures/company/employees.yml. However, I can''t figure out how to specify the path of the fixture file. If I do: fixtures :employees in my unit test it can''t find the fixture file. Any suggestions? Thanks, Todd

using Class#Find in dynamic fixtures
Hi, I am currently coding my tests and I made a lot of fixture files. To make everything simple (I thought), I didnt put the ID in the fixture, insted when I needed to put the id of something, I used Class.find_by_name "name of the item to find". When I use the file to import data in my migration everything is fine. But when I use the same files for my unit test, there is a

loading fixtures into oracle
Any idea why this fixture would fail to load any data? <% %w( Admin Pharmacist PI/Co-PI Research\ Nurse ).each { |g| Group.create( :name => g ) } %> It works perfectly in irb but when I do rake db:fixtures:load I get no data, no errors, and no error logs. I realize my fixture doesn''t look like your typical run-of-the-mill fixture but it''s that way because I''m

Fixtures are not loading into instance variables. Why not?
Hi, I have a fixture in a unit test and I see that the fixture is loaded correctly into the database table, but no instance variables are created. So now I''m stuck. More background: this is my first RoR project and I have just installed the SaltedLoginGenerator and generated its output. Running the unit tests gives an error, so I cut it down to just 1 test:
