--link-dest vs. special files and owner/group changes
rsync 2.6.9 --link-dest does - not hardlink special files (symlink, device nodes) This doesn't take much space, but it clutters the logfiles - change owner/groupship on the hardlink So if I use a hard-linked-tree-per-day, it changes history also Is this still the same with newer versions? Are there options to modify this behavior? If not, why not? :-) louis -- GMX FreeMail: 1 GB

has_and_belongs_to_many on legacy DB
I am working with mapping ActiveRecord onto a legacy database. All is going well (using set_table_name, set_primary_key, etc), but I can''t get my many<=>many relationships to work. My contrived example of the situation: Student has_and_belongs_to_many Teachers. This is mapped via table student2teacher where the foreign keys are studentId and teacherId. The primary key in Student

I''ve got a problem with some tables that don''t follow any RAILS standards. how do I define the join in the model when all three tables have wacky names? class Machine < ActiveRecord::Base set_table_name "tbl_CodeMgmt_Host" set_primary_key "Id" end class Pool < ActiveRecord::Base set_table_name "tbl_CodeMgmt_Pool" set_primary_key

ActiveRecord collection_select and has_and_belongs_to_many
Hello everyone, first post to the list and a relative newbie to Rails development. Done quite a bit of JSP, PHP, HTML, XML etc and thought I would kick the tires on Rails to see if it can speed up development for internal applications. Anyway, I am running into a problem that is just driving me crazy and everything I read on the net doesn''t seem to help. I was hoping someone here might

Relationships between models.
Hi All, I think Im having a mental block here. For some reason I just cant get my head round relationships. What I have is the following. 4 tables 1) Hosts 2) Software 3) OperatingSystem 4) Company In my terms (which are most likely wrong) a company can have lots of hosts, a host has lots of software, a host has one operating system. So should my models have the following relations in them?

naming convention for bridge tables.
I read somewhere that the correct naming of bridge tables is in alpha order. For example. I have two tables: houses, and colors. If I want to create a bridge table to associate colors with houses, I would name the table: colors_houses The associations work fine. But, if I have a table named: track_houses. Building a bridge table called: colors_track_houses, gives me model associaton errors.

Accessing Session Object from a model
i realise that this goes against the basic idea of the MVC architecture, but i''ve found myself in a situation where i need to get information about the current user in a model & i''m not sure how to do it. Basically, we have a product where each customer has their own profile with data stored in a separate database. There are some tables in a common

Implementation of vorbis using only the documentation
Reinventing the wheel is fun. I've just got working a (sort of) complete implementation of vorbis using (very nearly) only the documentation. This was quite easy overall as the documentation is very comprehensive and clear. Nice job, whoever put it together! The one spot I had some trouble with was the low level residue decode. The pseudo code at

feature request: "remote user is root, make remote owner is foo"
I often push files from my user account over SSH to my web server, and want them owned by www-user, which may not have a login shell, should never accept remote logins, and who may not have a ~/.ssh directory (and if it did, it would be under the wwwroot, ack!). Currently I push as root and then do a chmod, but isn't there a better way? While I'm doing this, the files are temporarily

TV-Out on a GeForce 2MX supported?
Hello, I have here a GeForce 2MX (NV10) with a Brooktree BT869 chip for the TV-Out. Is the TV-Out on this card supported by Nouveau? I read on the feature matrix something that the TV-Out is only supported for some Chrontel chips, furthermore xrandr -q shows me only the DVI connection (in fact it's VGA, not DVI), but not the S-Video connection. If not supported, is this planned for future
