How to force a lock_version increment
Hi everyone, I have a order with order_lines use case. On changing the lines, I want to be sure no one else changed the order. So I use lock_version on the order. This works fine if something is changed on the order record. But now i have the situation that I delete, alter and add order lines without changing the order record itself. I have to check and increment the order#lock_version however

Problems with multiple ActiveRecords and Validations
Hi all, I am a RoR newbie and have the following scenario set up: There are 2 ActiveRecords involved, the first one being "User", the second one being "Visibility". The corresponding users table holds address informations regarding a User. The visibilities table holds visibility settings for the individual columns of the users table (i.e. firstname, lastname, country

validations.rb of ActiveRecord - bug or misunderstanding?
Either I''m not understanding how things are used, or this might be a bug in ActiveRecord. I''m using version 1.13.2. In my version of activerecord/lib/active_record/validations.rb (the svn trunk version is browsable at http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/trunk/activerecord/lib/active_record/validations.rb ), I have: def update_attribute_with_validation_skipping(name,

validates_confirmation_of has stopped working
Hi Railers, I''m past considering myself a noob in Rails land - I think what I''m up against here is more of a bug or an anomaly that I''m unaware of (or that has changed in a recent version). I had a fully working validates_confirmation_of :email_address field in my app - was one of the first things I set up, extremely simple, been working for a long time. Then one

validates_peresence_of
Is there an expert validater that can point me in the right direction? I''ve looked for extended documentation on ''validates_presence_of'' but i can''t seem to find any. I''m trying to make sure that i don''t enter a nil object in my database, so i''ve added validate_presence_of to my Record Model. i.e. --> class Record <

@model.errors.empty? => true; @model.valid? => false
Hi, So, how can the situation described in the subject come to be? In other words, what could be invalidating the model, yet not generating an error? thanks, jh ps. here''s the breakpoint session paste: irb(#<#<Class:0xb72eec00>:0xb72eeb10>):003:0> @project.errors.empty? => true irb(#<#<Class:0xb72eec00>:0xb72eeb10>):004:0> @project.valid? => false

How to skip password validation when updating other fields?
Besides the hashed password, which is saved to db, I have two password-attributes in my User model: attr_accessor :password, :password_confirmation I have validations on these attributes, and I need them to work both on create and update, since I have pages for changing and resetting the password. Now when I want to update just the user''s login name, I guess I have the next

How to update partial attributes of a object from a form?
I have a user table, and it has forty columns, including name, gender, address, email, phone... So my @user object will have forty attributes. I divide these attributes into 4 groups... namely ''general info'', ''personal info'', ''contact info''... and I make separate forms to edit these 4 different group attributes. The problem is when I update

Example for attr_accessible?
Is anyone out there writing specs to check attr_accessible fields? I had originally written my spec to check for allowing the desired fields, and then none of the other regular db fields. Unfortunately this isn''t satisfactory, because attr_protected could have been used instead, which of course wouldn''t prevent mass assignment to any whatever=(val) method. I''m thinking

Invoice and invoice_lines
Hello People, I have a possibly very lame question. I am fairly new to RoR, and I want to make sure I do it "right". I have a model called Invoice, and one called InvoiceLines. Usual story: the table "invoice" has a 1:n relationship with "invoice_lines", which includes invoice_id. Now... the application will have a "new order" button, which will allow

update_attribute with Validation?
Does anyone know of a way to update individual attributes with validation? update_attribute disables the validation checks in the record model, so I''m wondering if there''s a workaround for this. In my application, I want to allow the user to update some or all the attributes without having to enter :password and :password_confirmation, both of which are subject to

validations without AR - going crazy trying to find link

Stuck on ActiveRecord
Hi, I''m having great fun developing with Rails but I''ve come to a problem that I can''t quite figure out. I have an Order object that "has_many" order_lines. This works perfectly and I can see all the lines. The OrderLine object has an order_id field as well as product_id and amount. Now ideally I would want to do : order.orderline[0].product.name for

update_attribute_with_validation_skipping
Does anyone know anything about: update_attribute_with_validation_skipping(name, value) I have read the documention, but, I must say, as much as I love ruby and rails, their documention lacks a lot, especially in the areas of examples and good, sound explanations of what methods do and how the function. The above method is a good example of this. What does the parameter ''name''

Rails validations app specific problems
Hi all, I have a unique workflow where it''s making the use of validations difficult. My app is for internal use in my company and I have a funky implementation (inspired by the e-commerce Railscasts episodes) of a cart. I have products which when I "add to cart" creates an order with a state of "incomplete". The product is a line item of my order. Hope that makes

My model has a validation rule like this: validates_presence_of :title If i try to save the model (@mymodel.save) with an empty title-formfield i get an error. hooray! that''s what i want! okay i insert a valid title and everything is fine. now i want to update the model (@mymodel.update) and

Hi..Guys new plugin again
Hi.. Guys new plugin again Foreign Key Associations is a plugin that automatically creates associations based on foreign-keys. The associations are created at runtime-ie. as your ActiveRecord models are loaded-so they will always be up-to-date. For example, given a foreign-key from a customer_id column in an orders table to an id column in a customers table, the plugin creates:
