Help enhancing acts_as_nested_set
I''m trying to enhance acts_as_nested_set. Well actually I already have,
but I''ve done a hack up job of it. I would like to contribute these
enhancements back, but I need a little help.
I''m a complete newbie to this stuff. The only thing I new before coming
into this project was vanilla HTML. So over the course of two weeks I''ve
picked up Ruby, Rails, MySQL,

Serialized object behaves weird
Hi!
I got a class named EinsatzFilter which I serialized to session. Before
saving to session it works afterwards I keep getting the message:
"undefined method `to_s'' for #<Person:0x38c6ab8>". "Person" is a from
ActiveRecord::Base inherited class.
Code:
class EinsatzFilter
include ApplicationHelper
attr_reader :personen, :monat, :projekte, :kunde

Great discrepancy between Google Analytics and own counter
Got Google Analytics running on one of my websites. Google defines a
pageview as the most occuring event. Every refresh, every link clicked
to a different part of the page, even loading from cache is an
additional pageview

Now it should be known that GA is JS based, and will report directly to
Google from the

update_all not changing updated_at
Hi everyone-
Model.update_all works and changes the records, but it''s not changing
the updated_at field. Am I doing something wrong or is this by
design?
Thanks,
Dino

update_all broken in postgres?
Hi
has anyone managed to use update_all with rails on postgres?
In my setup, it does not work:

acts_as_nested_set
Where can I see the API acts_as_nested_set constructs? I''ve read its
page in api.rubyonrails.com but I don''t see how to manage the tree
from there.

ActiveRecord::Base#update_all expected behaviour
Hi
I noticed that if in my code I use the following:
Photo.update_all("title = ''Ruby rocks'' ", "id IN (#{@photo_ids})")
All my objects are properly updated but none of the filters/callbacks
are triggered. Is that what''s expected?
I have a before_update filter set on the Photo class and it gets
totally ignored, I guess the only way to solve this

missing attribute: reorder
I am trying to use an integer object as a flag item for displaying a
link on a page called reorder that is a column in my PlanProcedures
table.
I''m getting an error that says
The Header is NoMethodError in Manage_plan_procedures#list
missing attribute: reorder
Here is what my model looks like:

Temporary disabling after_update
Hi,
I am trying to replace my old database trigger with ActiveRecord
callbacks in rails.
I have a model like following:
class Action < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :inquiry
def after_update
#clean up all action associated with the inquiry.
Action.update_all("latest = ''''", ["inquiry_id = ?",
self.inquiry_id])
#find the latest action

Enumerating over a Tree by Depth
I have a model using acts_as_tree which is working fine.
Being new to Ruby I''m don''t know what enumerator is best to use for
traversing a tree by depth. I can write one, but before I do I wanted
to know if there is there an enumerator for traversing trees available
that the community recommends?
Thank you,
Jose

update_all Not Incrementing lock_version
Shouldn''t update_all be updating lock_version? As you can see from my
console session below, it is upating the record (changed running
attribute to true and returned 1 to show 1 recored was updated). But it
did not increment lock_version. And optimistic locking is working
correctly otherwise. As you can see below, lock version = 562 before
and after the update_all call but it is

Reduce Number of Queries When Using ActiveRecord
I have a controller method called update_all that grabs parameters for about
30 form fields and saves them to the database. My current code looks to see
if there is a string in params[] for each form field (two fields for each
SelfEvaluationItem) and saves the updated self_evaluation_answer if a string
is available. Since this is iterated code, I am almost certain that this
generates 30 or so

ActiveRecord Classes
I''m having a little trouble with understanding how to work out the
schematic for some of my classes using ActiveRecord when a file is in my
lib directory:
Brief example:
Here''s the outline of the files in use:

........controllers
............application_controller.rb
............rushing_offenses_controller.rb
........models
............rushing_offense.rb

acts_as_tree with Modified Preorder Traversal?
Has anyone extended Rails''s acts_as_tree to use the Modified Preorder
Traversal algorithm? This is a really clever trick for optimizing
access to trees stored in databases, as described lucidly in this
article:
http://www.sitepoint.com/article/hierarchical-data-database/2
It adds two integer fields, a "left counter" and "right counter", to
each row. By

ActionRecord: how to update many records in one statement
Hello,
I am trying to edit and update all records of table ?intersts? (id,
name, description) on one page and has no good idea how to do it right,
when updating one record per page it?s ok The question is: what
statement instead Interest.update_all(params[:interest]) in controller
need to use to successfully update the database table by data passing to
controller in parameter ?interest??

Ordering of subsets in a model.
Alright, I got this table with lots of entries for menus. There''s
several menus (with their own model since each menu got some special
information). Now, I want to be able to specify the order of the menu
entries inside the menu. acts_as_list seems to not quite do the trick
since it does ordering "globally" on the whole model and
acts_as_nested_set seems like overkill since

Rails - Mock going out of scope?
Hello list,
I think I have a rails related RSpec problem with a mock going out of
scope on a recursive call to a model.
The code is at: http://pastie.textmate.org/79821 if you want to see it
highlighted. I have pasted it below as well.
Basically, I have an acts_as_nested_set model called "Node", which
works fine. I have a function which finds the language name of the
node instance.

acts_as_nested_set does not work (in my case).
Hello,
I am using acts_as_nested_set. My problem is that the columns "lft" and
"rgt" get the value 0 if I create a new entity. If I delete an entity I
get negative values (-1, -2, -3) - but for all entities. Is there
anything missing? Is there any example for "acts_as_nested_set" in the
web?

acts_as_list / acts_as_tree / acts_as_nested_set - which one
I am creating forum application which needs usage of acts_as_list or
acts_as_tree or acts_as_nested_set.
I am unable to decide among these. please could some one recommend from
their experience?
