file_column permissions
this is getting frustrating... i installed file_column without a hitch for the first time to just play around with. using the exact same steps as before, i try to use it with one of my actual applications, and i get "permission denied" errors. i figure there might be some conflict with my application so just for kicks i do the exact same thing i did the first time to test

file_column - assigning with an actual file rather than a multipart
Hi there, I''m using the wonderful file_column and have struck an issue that someone might have seen before. My images already sit on the server. So, instead of passing a multipart message I''m sending a file object. Something like... f = File.new("public/gallery_images/builder.png") p = Product.find_first p.image = f p.save On the save I recieve an error which

file_column :: changing image with object.update
Dear all, file_column now works fine with object.save i.e., it updates my database field with the correct image file name and places the image file into the correct public folder. However, I cannot get file_column to work the same way with object.update when trying to change image. It only updates my field with the image file name. However, the new image is not copied into the correct

Separating file_column upload directory by account
I''m working on an app right now that uses http://www.kanthak.net/opensource/file_column/index.html Sebastian Kanthak''s file_column plugin for file uploads. The usual directory structure it saves to is: model/attr/id/filename For my current project, I''d like to separate uploads by account so that it''s easier to monitor an account''s resource usage.

file_column Trying to Create Thumbnails of Non-Image Files??
Howdy. We use the handy file_column plug-in in some of our apps. We have a model with a file field and we upload both images and non-images into this field. It is specified as follows: file_column :file_uri, :magick => {:versions => {:thumbnail => {:size => ''200x''}}} Well, it works great for images but for non-images, the save fails. The root cause is an

problem with file_column storing images and other files
I have a model called ProductFiles which associates an arbitrary amount of image and documents with a product. I am using the file_column plugin to manage the upload and storage of the images, like so: class ProductFile < ActiveRecord::Base # Accepted MIME types, mime types that are not part of this list are rejected MIME_EXTENSIONS = { "image/gif" => "gif",

Questions about file_column plugin
Hi! I''ve got 2 models - let''s call them User and Image. User has_many images. (Thanks to Mark Reginal James :) ) I have a single form where i can create a user and add to him any number of images, which are uploaded using file_column plugin. Now 3 questions: 1. How to change the default path where file_column plugin saves images, so it will save them in a directory, which

file_column problem
I cannot get the file_column plugin to work. Probably something stupid I am doing wrong as I am pretty much a newbie... 1. I added a varchar column to my table called "image" 2. This is my class: class User < ActiveRecord::Base file_column :image, :magick => { :geometry => "80x80>" } attr_accessor :new_password ... rest of class 3. In my controller I

file_column
Hello all, another rails newbie here. I''m working on an project to simply upload pictures with some extra information, I was able to get uploads working thanks to file_column, however, a couple things are troubling me. First of all, according to the file_column website, displaying images should go like this: <%= image_tag url_for_file_column("entry", "image")

file_column generating random empty images
Hi all, I emailed Sebastian awhile back about this, but I know he is busy, so I''m asking for your help. I''m using the latest version of file_column from SVN, or the non-SVN version (doesn''t matter), but on some files, file_column will create 0kb files. The tmp directory will contain the correct file size, and I copied the temp over the 0kb file, and then it

file_column - on_save Proc and marsheling
Hi All, Using file_column, when I set a file_column field to nil file_column adds an on_save method using a Proc. This blows away marshalling and hence the ability to store this model into a session once I have nilified the field. def on_save(&blk) @on_save ||= [] @on_save << Proc.new end Has anyone got a fix or workaround for this? I am using file_column 0.3.1

file_column plugin and instance variables
To make file_column work I have to copy my local variable back to an instance variables like this: <% for product in @products @product = product %> <div class="catalogentry"> <%= image_tag url_for_file_column(''product'', ''image_url'') %></p> This is needed because file_column specifically looks for the instance

file_column :root_path question.
I''m developing on Windows and deploying to FreeBSD+lighttpd using Switchtower and I''ve got things generally working. My problem now is that file_column data gets zapped every time I deploy, because Switchtower creates a whole new myapp/public directory with each rev. I looked through the file_column docs and found the :root_path option, which I use in my models as follows:

file_column running tests in production?
I''ve added file_column and RMagick to my application and I''ve started implementing the first uses of it, and noticed something odd. Since adding the file_column plugin, I get this at the bottom of my pages on the live server: "Loaded suite dispatch.cgi Started Finished in 0.00021 seconds. 0 tests, 0 assertions, 0 failures, 0 errors" Locally (on my Windows XP

partials and instance variables for file_column
Hi, Sebastian Kanthak of the file_column-Plugin wrote once: "is the photo object inside a local variable or an instance variable (e.g. photo or @photo)? url_for_file_column only works with instance variables, like all other active record form helpers. Could this be the problem?" So I''m using file_column in a partial, e.g. <%= render (:partial => "product",

file_column and resizing only when it's bigger issue
I have limited space in my web design to display the logo of the upcoming event. So I put in code like this. file_column :image, :magick => { :versions => { "250x165" => "250x165"}} I was under the assumption that the image under directory 250x165 will be of this size if the image is bigger than 150x165. But I found out that for an image of size 134x88 the image
