Unable to start with Capistrano...
I''ve created a couple of tasks in my deploy.rb file for starting and stopping backgroundrb on the remote server. The stop task runs fine and kills the process. And the start task *seems* to run successfully, but backgroundrb is never started on the remote host. Has anyone had success with this? Here are my deploy tasks: desc ''Start backgroundrb server (default

Deploy with Capistrano. Bundle install freezes indefinetly.
I am fighting with this for 5 days... i''m getting crazy! Here is my deploy.rb: require "bundler/capistrano" require "rvm/capistrano" # Load RVM''s capistrano plugin. set :rvm_ruby_string, :local # Or whatever env you want it to run in. ''1.9.3'' set :domain, ''www.xxx.com'' set :application,

Weird Capistrano problem
I''m having problems launching the spin process via the deploy.rb task. Everything works great when is run the script manually via: % ssh admin@monterey.example.net /Web/Rails/Example/current/script/spin However, when I run ''cap spinner'' or ''rake remote:exec ACTION=spinner'', I get the following errors: % cap spinner loading configuration

Deploying to production with backgroundrb (capistrano)
I have noticed that occasionally (about 50% of the time) when i deploy (using capistrano) my app to a production server, i have to ssh into the box and manually stop and start backgroundrb to get it to load my workers. this is my basic setup i have 2 workers: lib/workers/mp3_worker.rb => takes a hash of params to downsample an mp3 lib/workers/flv_worker.rb => takes a has of

Deploying to a staging server using Capistrano: how to start up BackgrounDRb?
Hi. I am using BackgrounDRb to process thumbnails and upload to S3 - things are hunky-dory in development (thumbs are generated, these are uploaded to S3, the metadata is saved to trhe DB, and I get a nice status page updated by periodic calls via ask_status), but when I tried to deploy to our staging server and stop/start BackgrounDRb via Capistrano, things blew up - well, not exactly,

Capistrano - how do I set up the database config?
My app is set up without database.yml in version control. I created a shared_path/config dir, and put database.yml in it. After I update the code, I want to link the app''s database.yml file to the shared config. So I added this task desc ''Copy the database config'' task :after_update_code, :roles => :app do run "ln -s #{shared_path}/config/database.yml

Mongrel_rails restart and sudo
Sorry for the newbie question but I''m stumped: I have an app that requires sudo to run mongrel_rails. For my capistrano recipe is do it like this: sudo "mongrel_rails start -e production -p #{application_port} -d -c #{current_path}" Which works famously. Now I have tried several things for my restart task. Here they are: sudo "cd #{current_path} && sudo

best practices for handling uploaded images and capistrano
Quick question: I am going to use the file_column plugin to manage uploading thumbnails. By default the images are stored in the public/ dir of the rails project. The problem I see is that when capistrano redeploys a new build and symlinks it in none of the images will be in the new public/ dir... Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks, Zack -------------- next part -------------- An

Capistrano won''t spawn fcgi processes
I''ve ran into quiet an annoying problem: I have a Capistrano task that is supposed to run a shell script. The script restarts a rails application by first killing all active fcgi processes and then spawning new ones again. The shell script works fine when executed locally on the server but running this in a Capistrano task will simply not work. The task is simple: desc

mongrel cluster restart with capistrano fails but manually works
Hi all, I am out of my head here... I have a 3 node cluster with 10 mongrels running on each. When I deploy, I break all the mongrels every time. I have tried just about everything. I can restart my mongrels without a hitch manually, it''s only when I use cap deploy. Maybe I am missing something here... so if I can get some help it would be appreciated. The errors are the typical mongrel

Capistrano: command never finishes?
Hi, I have created a small :restart task to overwrite the default one: task :restart, :roles => :app do sudo "/etc/init.d/lighttpd stop" sudo "/etc/init.d/lighttpd start" end This works fine and lighty does restart, but the last command never finishes, so I never return to the prompt. Here''s my output: cap restart loading configuration

Capistrano: env not setup properly over ssh
Hi, If I make a Capistrano task like task :test, :roles => :app do run "env" end It prints something completely different than if I just do ssh login@host env I need all my login scripts to run so all my environment vars (including PATH) are set. All my Capistrano tasks are failing because the paths are setup properly. Thanks for the help. -- Posted via

how does capistrano get the ENV?
I don''t have the same environment variables with a capistrano task as I do with a conventional ssh session. When I ssh in and try "env" I see my GEM_HOME and GEM_PATH environment variables from my ~/.bash_profile (I also have a .gemrc file). But when I try "cap shell" and "env" I don''t see the GEM_HOME and GEM_PATH environment variables. How do I

Capistrano issues on VPS
Anybody out there using Capistrano to do remote deployments of Ruby on Rails apps on Rimu hosting? I am having a couple of issues with remote deployment ( I am doing deployment from my windows pc using cygwin). I am using Apache to run Rails as per setup described at http://bliki.rimuhosting.com/space/knowledgebase/linux/miscapplications/ruby+on+rails First one has to do with the fact that

Webistrano recipes association (was: [Capistrano] Webistrano 1.3 released)
I see at some point recipes were changed from project-associated to stage-associated, is there some explanation or examples of that use-case? Could I request we have both? In my current cap scripts, we don''t have any stage-specific recipes, but maybe I''m just not understanding this completely. On Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 1:04 PM, Jonathan Weiss

Vlad the Deployer??
I''ve been playing around with Vlad the deployer, and quite like it. However, has anyone used it to stop/start background rb processes via the ./script/backgroundrb script? Capistrano with CVS repository doesn''t seem to work
All, Does anyone has any experience with Capistrano against a CVS repository? I am unable to successfully pull a revision onto my remote server when hitting a CVS repository. Here is the relevant output from the cap "update_code" task: * executing "if [[ ! -d ~dusan/eSimplyTest/releases/20060410205540 ]]; then\n cd ~dusan/eSimplyTest/releases;\n

capistrano hangs
Any idea why this command takes upwards of 15 minutes to complete? run "cd #{release_path} && ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle RAILS_ENV=production rake db:migrate" When running it against my local Postgres it completes in a few seconds or so. Running it against my local Oracle XE takes only slightly longer. But running it with capistrano over ssh is taking years away from my life.
