rails compatible http servers that support ssl client auth
So far, apache is the only server I have found that supports ssl client authentication. Pound can forward the client certificate so I could verify it myself. I couldn''t find any information on client auth with lighttpd. Litespeed evidently doesnt'' support it. I''ve been trying to use apache for the ssl connection and then pass the ssl env back to mongrel or lighttpd,

IIS proxying to lighttpd/apache to mongrel with SSL
This might not be a mongrel question so much as an IIS question, and if so, my apologies. I''m needing to switch a (ASP.NET) web application that''s running behind a firewall appliance on IIS on port 8443 under SSL to a rails web application -- a mongrel instance (and perhaps later apache or lighttpd with new mod_core_prox in front of mongrel) on a different server. recommended setup of Mongrel_cluster + SSL for multiple apps?
I''d like to use Mongrel_cluster with SSL on a green-field application (it can be configured however is best - initially, "ease of setup" is important, but then soon after will be scaling and response time). I''ve read a lot of emails on this topic, and checked out the Mongrel pages, etc, but I''m left with this question of what is recommended: For a

Ajax and IE causing Page Not Found and 500 Errors behind SSL
Hi, Forgive this if it is a duplicate, because I was having trouble posting to the list. I have a setup of mongrel behind an apache proxy and I am getting a few people using IE (5.5 & 6.0) complaining about getting sporadic page not found errors when using AJAX features of the site and file uploads behind SSL. I am posting the research I have done on the subject. I have the

SSL certificate and rails...
Newbie Q: Building a webstore and need to have SLL-encryption on the checkout pages... I have no previous experience with SSL. I understand that I need a SSL-certificate. I''m planning on purchasing the cert from RapidSSL, but to do that I need to generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request). How do I do that? How do I install the certificate on the server? Are there any guides on

Mongrel and SSL?
I have a small intranet app with only 20 or so users. I''m currently using lighttpd w/ssl for production and mongrel for dev. I don''t think Mongrel supports ssl, but what is the easiest front-end to put in front of it? Pound? Thanks Greg -- Greg Freemyer The Norcross Group Forensics for the 21st Century

Opinion on different web server setups?
This is not directly a Rails question but you lot seem the best to ask... I have a strong feeling we will be developing future apps in Rails (Ruby fans are slowly starting to outnumber cynics in my office) so I want a web server plan that will be appropriate for that. We have just bought two new web servers I want to turn into a load-balanced, redundant pair. As well as any Rails

Running SSL Rails app on apache server already in use
SSL and Rails is proving to be somewhat confusing and difficult to get going for me. I already have an HTTPS apache instance running off my domain -- legacy secure web app. (lives at https://www.mydomain.com say) Now I want to develop a new app on the same secured domain with rails (out of a subdir, symlinked or something at https://www.mydomain.com/railsapp ) But how can this work? To get that

ssl breaks rails app
I''m a newbie both with rails and configuring a server so I appreciate any help available. I developed my rails app and deployed it successfully on apache using cgi. Next I successfully configured mod_ssl for apache. I point my browser to https://myserver and VIOLA , I see the index page in ../myapp/public/index.html . But when I try to get to one of the controllers, the routing seems

Problem with IE forms over SSL: rails + lighttpd
If I submit a form with lots of checkboxes using IE, rails, lighttpd (server on OSX Server, client on XP), then I get a "This page cannot be displayed" message from IE after some delay and nothing shows up in the rails or lighttpd logs. Cutting the number of checkboxes fixes the problem. Safari works fine. I''ve googled for anwers and apparently there is an upload problem

Lighttpd for rails app subdomain apache for the rest
I want to host a rails app at mydomain.com/railsapp. For technical reasons I have to leave mydomain.com on apache. This means that I need to tell apache to proxy only requests for mydomain.com/railsapp to lighttpd. I have deployed in a situation like this before around a year and a half ago but it was a real pain. Lighttpd and rails have matured a lot in the year and a half since I did

Apache proxy to lighttpd leads to Rails routing error
Hello, I have an issue I am having trouble figuring out. I have a Rails app running through lighttpd which is accessed through an Apache proxy. My apache config: <location /rails/> ProxyPass http://localhost:81/ ProxyPassReverse http://localhost:81/ </location> RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/rails/(.*) http://localhost:81/$1 [P] So when apache sees /rails/ it

I''m trying to set up my Rails development app for public access on OS X. I''m using the bundled lighttpd server. The first thing i tried to do is simply start lighttpd on port 80. When i set "server.port = 80" in lighttpd.conf i get the following error message after running ruby script/server: (network.c.265) can''t bind to port 80 Permission denied i

PKI Compliance Dovecot Server
Hello, I work for an organization that uses a Secure Dovecot server for messaging, and recently we've had to undergo some security screenings for PKI compliance (credit card industry standards). However, the screening returned to us a failure due to the following reason (attributed to our Dovecot server, which runs on port 993 and is the only "open" port on our firewall): Synopsis

SCGI + Lighttpd + SSL crashes - fine without SSL
[ERR][17968] Handling client: can''t convert nil into String Hi, We decided to go with SCGI + Lighttpd for Rails at our company and had no problems with the initial setup. Everything ran fine and was fast. However, problems occurred when we tried to rebuild Lighty with SSL capabilities. With this build, even with SSL off in the config file the application fails on the first request.

web server q -- playing nice w/ PHP
I have a webserver that''s happily running apache2 and PHP. I''d like to deploy a site that I wrote using RoR on that same server but read that there might be some conflicts with PHP and RoR trying to access the same MySQL database. How real are those conflicts? Could I mess up my running PHP site if I install mod_ruby and try to use Apache2? Would I be better off
