How do I open and read/write to a file?
I need to process some text files quickly. I''ve not been able to find the answer in the archive. The Ruby Standard Library site times out. Can someone tell me where to find info on how to: 1. Get a list of filenames in a directory. 2. How to open a file. 3. How to read it a line at a time. -- Thanks in advance for the help, -Larry "Work, work, work...there is no satisfactory

Has markaby been abandoned?
Recently discovered Markaby. Before I use it on a production system, I''d like to know if it is still being maintained? According to the change log, the last change was in February of 2006. Does this mean that the project has been abandoned? Or, at version 0.3 it was considered production stable and complete? -- Best Regards, -Larry "Work, work, work...there is no satisfactory

Ruby startup slow on Windows Server 2003
Ruby script/console takes 30-secs to start on the Windows 2003 servers in our shop. Has anyone found a way to speed that up? ( I know Linux is much faster, but that''s not an option, in this case). -- Best Regards, -Larry "Work, work, work...there is no satisfactory alternative." --- E.Taft Benson -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

[OT] Tables VS divs for form layout.
I''ve been using tables to get my forms to line up. ( I have usually one column for labels, and a column for values ). Should I be using divs instead? I''ve been reading some CSS design books lately. They tend to recommend divs over tables for general page layout stuff. But, what about the forms elements? What''s the ''best practice'' in this regard?

History plugin
Hello, I felt annoyed enough when having to redirect user back to their previous location in a hackish way that I wrote this plugin. It avoids storing POST and Ajax request. It also has a facility to specify actions not to store in the history. If you are interested, it''s there: http://blog.cosinux.org/pages/rails-history See you all, Damien -- Damien MERENNE

RXML: <ruby:put expr="1+2"/>
Hello railers, I''ve always been annoyed by the fact that ERB doesn''t respect XML specs. As I mostly write XHTML, I''m trying to write a renderer using only valid XML files. Here is an example of a file so you get the feeling of what it''s going to do: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"? > <html

How to handle failed finds.

Which is better for production: MySQL5 or PostGres8.1?
I''m coming from an Oracle and SQL Server background. I''d like to use OpenSource for my next RoR project. MySQL5.x and Postgres8.1 seem to be the most popular. I''d like some comments on which would be the better choice for a production environment and why. Here are my initial concerns in order of priority: 1. Works well with RoR. ( migrations, etc) 2. Stable enough

Hi! I have been learning rails for a couple of week now. Mostly i''ve worked on a authorize/roles system and now i go to the point that i want to separate it from en rest of my application to share it with others and to use it in other projects. It is a quite simple system that i implement using before_filter. My vision is to separate the authorize methods and even some basic

DB Modelling the Rails way - Opinions??
Hi, I''m trying to figure the most efficient way to model the following. I can think of at least two ways to relate the tables but from a client/server perspective! I''m wondering how to best (and elegantly)relate them from an AR perspective. A project has many people, A person can work on many projects at any time, A project has many roles, A role is performed by a person, A

[LLVMdev] Y.A.Project based on LLVM: ParaSail LLVM-Based compiler
ParaSail (http://parasail-lang.org) is a safe pervasively-parallel object-oriented programming language. Starting in June 2014 we began the construction of an LLVM-based backend for ParaSail. The existing ParaSail interpreter is broken into a front end that generates instructions for the "ParaSail Virtual Machine" (PSVM), and an interpreter for PSVM instructions. The LLVM-based
