psitsNOT now available as a Rails Engine
psitsNOT ("Photoshop it''s NOT!") is an AJAX powered image editor for Rails. Although it doesn''t pretend to be feature-rich, psitsNOT lets you rotate and crop; adjust brightness, contrast, and color balance; then reduce grain, enhance color contrast, sharpen, and set the final size of an image. It does a great job at enhancing digital photos for display on the web.

PHP FTP functions equivalents?
Two questions from a PHP guy thinking of moving to Rails: 1. Does Rails have equivalents for PHP''s FTP functions (www.php.net/ftp)? 2. What about image editing functions similar to PHP''s GD2 functions? (I would basically want to be able to crop, rotate, draw lines, add text...) I searched online for the above but I got somewhat conflicting info about image editing and

TTS in Asterisk on Solaris
Hello Group, I have been going through all the chit-chat about TTS and the various engines available to integrate with Asterisk incl. flite/festival, espeak, Nuance etc but I am wondering if anyone's tried any or all of these to compile on a Sparc based Solaris platform? If not, then what is the best way for me to accomplish a production environment TTS service when most of my servers or the

Google Base... in Rails?
Ok, so this is kinda out of the blue... but I''ve been looking at Google Base and thinking that it''s got some really good ideas in it. Especially the way you can create your own "type" of item with its own custom attributes, like date range, location, number, text, etc. Kind of like defining a database with a GUI, but not exactly. It seems really interesting to me, from

How do I reset rails in production mode on DreamHost?
Hello! I am testing rails on DreamHost. I believe it''s running on apache. In development mode, it ran very slowly. So I changed it into production mode and switched to fcgi. It''s very fast now. But the problem is that if I add actions to a controller, it''s not applied. I know that in production mode, I need to restart web server. But I don''t control the web

Mongrel 0.3.4 -- Win32 Gems/Better CGIWrapper
Hello Everyone, Today''s Mongrel is the first release to sport spiffy pre-built win32 gems. This comes thanks to Wilson Bilkovich donating some Rakefile magic that does the stuff for me. Everyone who uses win32 should send Wilson a thank-you since without him you''d be a victim of my laziness for at least a few more weeks. People who are testing and trying Mongrel out should

monitor fcgi?
Im trying to get a new app up on dreamhost. What fun :/ Id like to try out the ''frao_handler'' which just keeps dreamhost from automatically killing my fcgi processes. But Im also worried about things getting out of hand. I seem to remember that captures in views can cause problems with fcgi (I might just be making that up????), and I do have few in my app. And well Im

Production environment for Rails on Win32, anyone interested for a binary release?
Hi all, as part of adopting Rails in my company I had to go through the hassle of setting up a Rails production environment on Win32 system since we mostly use MS SQL as our database back end and also because we mostly dealing with customers who become green-blue-purple as soon as you mention Unix/Linux and run for the door. I also need to mention that most of our web applications are internal and

Retrieve the current controller name from a view
Hi all, I wonder if it''s possible to retrieve the current controller name and possibly the action when you''re in a view. i.e. I call the same template/partial view from different controllers and I''d like to know when I''m in the view code which controller is calling it... Any ideas? Sorry if it''s obvious but I couldn''t find it in the doc.

Tip Sheet for AJAX
Hi all, I''m making an Amy Hoy style tip sheet PDF for the Prototype and Scriptaculous AJAX stuff, to be used with Rails. Are there other resources you would suggest besides the websites themselves (the previous thread about Highlight reminded me of this)? Is there a particular focus that would be helpful for such a document? Preferred fonts or colors? I must say, once you get

Rails on OS X problem
Hi All, So far I have been unable to get rails working on a 10.5.6 OS X installation. Every ''rails'' command ends with the following error: /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems.rb:827:in `report_activate_error'': RubyGem version error: ruby-openid(2.1.7 not ~> 2.0.0) (Gem::LoadError) I tried uninstalling and then re-installing ruby-openid, but that doesn''t help.

[Repost] OpenID and my db schema
Hi, I posted this before, but didn''t get an answer, so I''m trying again. I''ve recently decided to use OpenID to let users log in to my site instead of old fashioned account creation. They''ll be able to add a small amount of personal details (about three things) to their account, and post messages in the site BB. I have an openid_users table which stores the
