500 error while trying to run Camping on Dreamhost
I''ve tried setting up an Hello World app with Rails (no database), on a Dreamhost account. I used the configuration I found here http://www.mail-archive.com/camping-list at rubyforge.org/msg00114.html with the proper paths. But I keep getting Internal Server Errors (500). On the error.log I found this [Sun Jul 22 15:32:07 2007] [error] [client 82.154.48.138] FastCGI: comm with (dynamic)

Camping on Dreamhost
I spent a few hours tonight getting Camping working with FastCGI on Dreamhost. I pieced together information from a blog post, an email thread, and the SiteFive page on the Camping wiki, and posted my working results in two places: Camping wiki - http://code.whytheluckystiff.net/camping/wiki/CampingOnDreamhost Dreamhost wiki - http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Camping Hopefully this helps somebody! --

Camping-list Digest, Vol 15, Issue 2
Eli, This is interesting. I enabled DEBUG logging in Apache and tailed the error.log. Lo and behold, you''re right, its a problem with one of my require statements. Namely: `gem_original_require'': no such file to load -- camping/fastcgi (LoadError) Strange, it works fine when I do it in IRB, or do it from a ruby script at the bash prompt. Apache runs as the same user that

Experience with ferret on Dreamhost ?
Does anybody have experience with running ferret on dreamhost ? My app is running ok until I install the acts_as_ferret plugin, at which point I get "Rails application failed to start properly" errors. I''ve used script/console to confirm that I can require ''ferret'' and make a new Index object . Everything appears to be ok in that respect. Unfortunately

Cannot find gem for Rails error from dispatch.cgi
Hi All, I''m developing a Rails app with Rails v1.1.4, but when I upload it to Dreamhost and try to serve it with dispatch.cgi, I get the error "Cannot find gem for Rails =1.1.4". However, I have installed the 1.1.4 gem in my home directory and set GEM_PATH to look there; additionally, rake throws no errors and "rails -v" displays "Rails 1.1.4". Any

Rails, FCGI, DreamHost, and endless frustrations
Hi all! I''m trying to deploy an application out to a subdomain at dreamhost. I am getting the dreaded "Rails application failed to start properly" error. The logs for my app are empty. In the DreamHost FTP app, when I look in the error.log file (I''m guessing this the Apache error log file) I see the following for each of my attempts: [Sun Jul 16 12:36:32 2006]

FastCGI without ScriptAlias
Hi, I made some experiments with the sample blog application, my index.fcgi file contains the following: require ''camping/fastcgi'' Camping::Models::Base.establish_connection( :adapter => ''sqlite3'', :database => ''database/camping.db'' ) Camping::FastCGI.serve(''blog.rb'') Without ScriptAlias the application works fine,

Capistrano Deployment on Dreamhost
I''m having trouble getting Capistrano to work on Dreamhost. I seem to be having problems logging in, but I can ssh fine to my dreamhost server from this machine. This doesn''t seem like a dreamhost specific thing to me, but I''m kind of stuck. Here''s the exception I get from "cap setup":

Dreamhost - how to login to your unix account?
[apologies but dreamhost forums are down & I''m keen to get a rails up on my dreamhost account but the following isn''t clear to me - I''m just hoping one of the rails dreamhost users can set me straight] I''m having difficulty in PUTTY to login to my unix account. I''ve tried by using Putty SSH to access

+ camping 1.4.140 -- apache+fastcgi, lighttpd+fastcgi
Okay, I have tested mounting several of my apps under Lighttpd and Apache, both running FastCGI. I''m going to explain the configuration, but first: update. gem install camping --source code.whytheluckstiff.net == Mounting Root for Lighttpd+FastCGI == server.port = 3045 server.bind = "192.168.0.103" server.modules = (

Troubleshooting tips for getting Apache/RailsApp/Dreamhost
Hi, Background: I''m currently stuck getting my basic rails application working on dreamhost. I have gone throught the doco. Note that I can via my unix account run "ruby script/server" and get the application working via webbrick. The problem I am having is that trying to go to the app via the normal apache approach my browser just sits and spins with nothing coming

fcgi?
Hi, I''ve been looking for a light weight alternative to rails for a few small projects, and just came across merb, which looks perfect. The only issue is that merb seems to be tied to mongrel, and I have to deploy to our internal infrastructure which uses FastCGI. How difficult would it be for me to modify merb to support a fcgi interface (actually a rack interface - rack is

Camping Apache2 & FCGI - Internal Use
Hey Folks, I''m deploying a camping app on an internal Apache2 + FastCGI server at my office. Of course, on my Mac it works great, but I can''t get things to work with Apache and FCGI. I''ve followed the directions on why''s page documenting how to do this, but I''m getting the following error in my Apache error.log file: FastCGI: (dynamic) server

lighttpd + fastcgi + camping
Hello all, I am running in some little stumbling blocks with passenger as a multi user environment (the most problematic feature is that, once you setup a sub-domain passenger wants you to declare on nginx every app running on that nginx server which is not ideal to add apps on the fly and / or if a user wants to run 2 apps from his space) so I was thinking about a more drag a drop / one line

Resolved: Apache + CGI/FastCGI + mod_rewrite
This is the last time I try to fix something in the middle of the night! Feel free to call me a Stupid Snake, ''cause this has been messy. Anyway, I think I''ve finally solved this. Here it is: http://pastie.org/237138 :-) -- Magnus Holm

Camping and Builder and XML
Hi, I have built a simple Camping application which indexes an ODBC datasource using Ferret on startup, then accepts search strings and renders the resulting hit list in HTML, and it works quite nicely. The next step was to alternately render the list in XML for consumption by another application. In Rails, I would simply use Builder in the view to get the job done, and so I did the same in

Camping on Media Temple?
I''m getting into camping in a big way--I love that you can put together full-fledged apps with so little code and overhead. Does anyone know of any documentation about getting Camping apps running on Media Temple''s GridServer? Of course I''ve found the Camping server page[1], but I can''t work out how to associate running camping apps with a (sub)domain

Using Rails Plugins with Camping
I just picked up Camping and I''m currently reviewing every little tidbit of information I can find out about it. I really liked the simplicity of RubyOnRails, but sometimes you want something fast and everything is relative. After looking at Camping, RubyOnRails seems like a lot of work if you just want to test out a prototype of a small web app. One thing I do miss are all the
