Ajax.Request with page reload?
I need to send a POST request via a link, along with paramater data for an action, and the page needs to reload. link_to_remote worked great when I was updating a DOM element but obviously won''t work when I need to reload a page. Is there an option -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

I have this link which when clicked will loop and render more links and a form from a partial inside of "myDiv": <%= link_to_remote ''MyLink'' . . . ., :update =>"myDiv" %> <div id = myDiv> <div> <div> <div> What I am trying to do is have a form_remote_tag that re-renders the list of stuff in "myDiv" when

virtual links
Thomas, I am experimenting with virtual links and cannot seem to get this to work right. I copied the htmldoc.virtual file out of the mics folder that was bundled with webgen5.4 and pasted that into my src directory. I then edited the file to the link I wanted to use. api.html url: http://mylink.com title: This is my link in_menu: true sort_info: 60 The link is in the menu for the

Hash flattening on paginator link_to
Hey I need some help with pagination and the link_to in the view. I''m trying to include a hash in the pagination link_to params and it keeps flattening out my hash. Example: Here''s my hash called @answer: "answer"=>{"6"=>"9bf31c7ff062936a96d3c8bd1f8f2ff3", "7"=>"6f4922f45568161a8cdf4ad2299f6d23"}

Restful Authentication and State Machine state transfer question
I''m adding some code to a project using restful_authentication and acts_as_statemachine In the create method for a user there is the following code generated by the restful_authentication template @user.regster! if user.valid? And this will save and the user record if it is valid. I understand that the statemachine will then change the state from passive to pending. It will guard

timestamp on symlink
rsync does not sync the timestamp on symlink (Solaris 8). It is probablly due to the limitation of Unix implementation of symlink, but I would like to know why rsync/Unix does not do this, and what we can do about it. Is the conclusion that "rsync syncs everything except the timestamp on symlink"? Why do I need timestamp on symlink? Supposed something stopped working because something

Remove ActiveRecord::Relation#& alias for 'merge' ? (or at least only reference and not use in AR)
Would the core team be open to the removal of the ''&'' alias for ActiveRecord::Relation#merge? The reason is that in Ruby the ''&'' operator refers to an intersection of two sets of data, not a merge. (within the context of the Array class) Recently Arel added support for SQL Set Operators: 2-0-stable:

OrderedHash
Looks like I have skipped on this, but still - a couple of questions: 1) Why there suddenly is an OrderedHash in ActiveSupport? (this glaring omission from ruby core is present in many apps already) 2) Why it doesn''t match the semantics of Hash respectively? 3) Why it''s #nodoc ? -- Julian ''Julik'' Tarkhanov please send all personal mail to me at julik.nl

Session cookies not passed on first redirect
Hello Campers! Is it just me or does Camping init the session twice on a redirect? If I have an app and when the user visits it for the first time, a session is generated. Afterwards I redirect the user in a service (that basically does auth) and he gets bounced to the login page - but when I arrive at the login page my SID somehow has changed :-( so there is a stale session dangling

Sending files through send_file or by httpd?
If I were to serve files, would send_file via rails be slow? I think they will be 200mb avi files. Would it be better to send them via /public ? But I would like to track the clicks on each file - which makes me think that I can''t serve them out on /public as those clicks will not go through my application. Any help or suggestions? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Absolutize URLs in a string
I wonder - do we have some helper/processor/gem to automatically convert all URLs in a passed string to their canonical equivalent - i.e. with the protocol, host and such prepended based on the Rails environment. Super-duper infty for RSS feeds (I hate their requirement for canonical URLs everywhere). -- Julian ''Julik'' Tarkhanov please send all personal mail to me at

putting away HashWithIndifferentAccess
Hey, campineros. And many good handshakes to zimbatm for getting some patches applied. So, yeah, I''d really like to get rid of any serious dependancies with this 1.6 release. Anything that''s not in stdlib has to go. Of course, camping-omnibus will still assume the whole ActiveRecord, Markaby, Mongrel setup that''s in the history books. Metaid can be removed and

Scriptaculous Sortable Element Issue
I have a <ul> that contains a number of list items, and I''m using the sortable_element helper to reorder then via drag-and-drop. This works great, however, when I insert a new <li> into the <ul> with Ajax, the sortable_element doesn''t know about it. Is there a way to refresh this collection? Thanks for any help. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Canvas Tag + Rails Ajax
Hi all, Just looking for a quick sanity check. I was thinking of writing a plugin for rails to give rails developers a good way of using the new firefox 1.5/safari canvas tags. I was thinking of grabbing an existing ruby graphics library and modifying it so that it renders via the canvas tag.. So you could have link_to_remote pointing to controller actions that instead of returning

character encoding in RoR
Hi, I''m a newcomer to Ruby and to Rails, and am having a problem with character encoding. Now, I know ruby doesn''t handle unicode...but, characters like ? (eacute) and ? (ccedil) are part of the iso-8859-1 charset, so it shouldn''t be a problem, right? But, for some reason, the string functions still seem to hang on those characters. As an example, in a brand new rails

Rack::Lint::LintError with latest camping and rack

Per-Request View Paths
I haven''t had a chance to work on fixing multiple controller view paths recently. My original patch attempt was: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/8582 It was rejected due to the fact that it was fixing the symptom more than the problem. However, I think it''s critical that this problem get fixed, otherwise the whole concept of view_paths is severely neutered and
