Narrow escape with FAULTED disks
Nothing like a "heart in mouth moment" to shave tears from your life. I rebooted a snv_132 box in perfect heath, and it came back up with two FAULTED disks in the same vdisk group. Everything an hour on Google I found basically said "your data is gone". All 45Tb of it. A postmortem of fmadm showed a single disk failed with smart predictive failure. No indication why the

Repeating scrub does random fixes
I''ve been using a 5-disk raidZ for years on SXCE machine which I converted to OSOL. The only time I ever had zfs problems in SXCE was with snv_120, which was fixed. So, now I''m at OSOL snv_111b and I''m finding that scrub repairs errors on random disks. If I repeat the scrub, it will fix errors on other disks. Occasionally it runs cleanly. That it doesn''t

time-sliderd doesn''t remove snapshots
In the last few days my performance has gone to hell. I''m running: # uname -a SunOS nissan 5.11 snv_150 i86pc i386 i86pc (I''ll upgrade as soon as the desktop hang bug is fixed.) The performance problems seem to be due to excessive I/O on the main disk/pool. The only things I''ve changed recently is that I''ve created and destroyed a snapshot, and I used

ZFS disk failure question
So, my Areca controller has been complaining via email of read errors for a couple days on SATA channel 8. The disk finally gave up last night at 17:40. I got to say I really appreciate the Areca controller taking such good care of me. For some reason, I wasn''t able to log into the server last night or in the morning, probably because my home dir was on the zpool with the failed disk

cryptic vdev name from fmdump
This morning we got a fault management message from one of our production servers stating that a fault in one of our pools had been detected and fixed. Looking into the error using fmdump gives: fmdump -v -u 90ea244e-1ea9-4bd6-d2be-e4e7a021f006 TIME UUID SUNW-MSG-ID Oct 22 09:29:05.3448 90ea244e-1ea9-4bd6-d2be-e4e7a021f006 FMD-8000-4M Repaired

No ACL inheritance with aclmode=passthrough in onnv-134
Hi list, while preparing for the changed ACL/mode_t mapping semantics coming with onnv-147 [1], I discovered that in onnv-134 on my system ACLs are not inherited when aclmode is set to passthrough for the filesystem. This very much puzzles me. Example: $ uname -a SunOS os 5.11 snv_134 i86pc i386 i86pc $ pwd /Volumes/ACLs/dir1 $ zfs list | grep /Volumes rpool/Volumes 7,00G 39,7G 6,84G

HELP! zpool corrupted data
Hello, Due to a power outage our file server running FreeBSD 8.0p2 will no longer come up due to zpool corruption. I get the following output when trying to import the ZFS pool using either a FreeBSD 8.0p2 cd or the latest OpenSolaris snv_143 cd: FreeBSD mfsbsd 8.0-RELEASE-p2.vx.sk:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64 mfsbsd# zpool import pool: tank id: 1998957762692994918 state: FAULTED

convert raidz from osx
I am converting a 4 disk raidz from osx to opensolaris. And I want to keep the data intact. I want zfs to get access to the full disk instead of a slice. I believe like c8d0 instead off c8d0s1. I wanted to do this 1 disk at a time and let it resilver. what is the proper way to do this. I tried, I believe from memory : zpool replace -f rpool c8d1s1 c8d1 but it didn''t let me do that. then I

"zpool import -f" not forceful enough?
I had to use the labelfix hack (and I had to recompile it at that) on 1/2 of an old zpool. I made this change: /* zio_checksum(ZIO_CHECKSUM_LABEL, &zc, buf, size); */ zio_checksum_table[ZIO_CHECKSUM_LABEL].ci_func[0](buf, size, &zc); and I''m assuming [0] is the correct endianness, since afterwards I saw it come up with "zpool import". Unfortunately, I

Scrubbing only checks used data?
Hi there, I am currently evaluating OpenSolaris as a replacement for my linux installations. I installed it as a xen domU, so there is a remote chance, that my observations are caused by xen. First, my understanding of "zpool scrub" is "Ok, go ahead, and rewrite each block of each device of the zpool". Whereas "resilvering" means "Make

X4500 device disconnect problem persists
After applying 125205-07 on two X4500 machines running Sol10U4 and removing "set sata:sata_func_enable = 0x5" from /etc/system to re-enable NCQ, I am again observing drive disconnect error messages. This in spite of the patch description which claims multiple fixes in this area: 6587133 repeated DMA command timeouts and device resets on x4500 6538627 x4500 message logs contain multiple

expand zfs for OpenSolaris running inside vm
hello, all I am have constraint disk space (only 8GB) while running os inside vm. Now i want to add more. It is easy to add for vm but how can i update fs in os? I cannot use autoexpand because it doesn''t implemented in my system: $ uname -a SunOS sopen 5.11 snv_111b i86pc i386 i86pc If it was 171 it would be grate, right? Compiling issue on x86!
Hi thanks for your posts so far. Since what I had assumed was a 32 bit kernel which I compiled didn''t work, I religiously set out on compiling a 64 bit version as my system is currently booted in 64 bit mode. I installed SUNStudio12 on the system and set the SPRO_VROOT to point towards it and when I do a make all in usr/src directory, I get the following error when make cwds and runs in

Panic running a scrub
This is probably unreproducible, but I just got a panic whilst scrubbing a simple mirrored pool on scxe snv124. Evidently on of the disks went offline for some reason and shortly thereafter the panic happened. I have the dump and the /var/adm/messages containing the trace. Is there any point in submitting a bug report? The panic starts with: Jan 19 13:27:13 host6

xend:default won''t start due to /usr/bin/kstat not locating autosplit.ix
Short:     Which package do I need to install to get "auto/I18N/Langinfo/autosplit.ix"? Long: The problem I have was discussed almost a year ago (see this thread), but the resolution was not complete... I''m using Mark Johnson''s slim.py script (package list below), against repo=http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev, followed by `pkg install xvm-gui` and `svcadm enable

dtrace and Xorg don''t always mix
I''m wondering if I should file a bug against this or is this just a case of a user doing something stupid :) I ran the following script on my desktop: #!/usr/sbin/dtrace -s pid9276:::entry { @counting[probefunc] = count(); } And my Xsession immediately crashed and through me back to the login screen. My OS is 5.11 snv_50 i86pc i386 i86pc with a dual core amd chip and 2G or
