Managing about 30 users?
I have about 30 dev. and operation users on my machines, is there a
recipe anywhere for doing this? The best practices doc on the wiki is
incomplete and confusing.
Also, any workaround for the ssh_authorized_key bug in 24.8? All I
really want to do is create users, home directories and put ssh keys
in them, but it tries to add the keys first, so it doesn''t work.

Dear R,
I would like to report what I think is a bug in R. I am running R
within emacs on a Digital AlphaStation. See the version information
at the end of my R session for details. I also attach a copy of the
file that is read in the `read.table' command.
Here's my R session, with a few

multiple imputation with fit.mult.impute in Hmisc - how to replace NA with imputed value?
I am doing multiple imputation with Hmisc, and
can't figure out how to replace the NA values with
the imputed values.
Here's a general ourline of the process:

xapian core missing link to math on MSYS2
Dear All,
I've tried to build xapian-core 1.4.3 on MSYS2. It fails with attached
error (undefined reference to `exp10'). I think it might be missing an
explicit link to 'm'. I'm not able to fix this myself as I do not
know autotools sufficiently well, but I hope you might be able to help.
Cheers,

j4200 drive carriers
apparently if you don''t order a J4200 with drives, you just get filler
sleds that won''t accept a hard drive. (had to look at a parts breakdown
on sunsolve to figure this out -- the docs should simply make this clear.)
it looks like the sled that will accept a drive is part #570-1182.
anyone know how i could order 12 of these?

Rsync 4TB datafiles...?
I need to rsync 4 TB datafiles to remote server and clone to a new oracle
database..I have about 40 drives that contains this 4 TB data. I would like
to do rsync from a directory level by using --files-from=FILE option. But
the problem is what will happen if the network connection fails the whole
rsync will fail right.
rsync -a srchost:/ / --files-from=dbf-list
and dbf-list would contain this:

Printing on a Window Client from AIX
Hi all...
First, thank you to Matt Chapman for pointing out why I could not connect to a
non-domain participating machine. I needed to have a local account on that
machine (it wasn't checking back with the domain controllers as I thought it
would). I guess I'm going to have to start venturing out of the UNIX world and
into the NT one. Scary :-)
Either way, I now successfully am

Custom user shares
Hi folks,
We have an old internal server running samba version 3.2.15 which can't be
upgraded for different reasons. It's been running several passwordless
shares with no problem. Now I'm trying to configure passworded user shares
and not having much luck. I'm wondering if someone can help me diagnose
this:
In smb.conf I have
security = user
map to guest = Bad user

Classification of supernovae - a challenge
Hi all,
I thought I'd just point out, to those not having yet seen this, that
today there was a classification challenge posted for astronomy.
The web-site is http://www.hep.anl.gov/SNchallenge/
[I have nothing to do with this project so don't ask me any details!]
Basically the idea behind is that future surveys of the sky will turn
up a large number of supernovae (SNe). The

I would be incredibly grateful to anyone who'll help me translate some
SAS code into R code.
Say for example that I have a dataset named "dat1" that includes five
variables: wshed, site, species, bda, and sla. I can calculate with the
following SAS code the mean, CV, se, and number of observations of
"bda" and "sla" for each combination of

Cannot allocate vector of size

Help
Hello Everyone,
I am trying to excess the inbuit .Fortran and .C codes of R. Can any one
help me in that. For example in kmeans clustering the algorithms are written
in .Fortran I want to access them and see the .Fortran syntax of the codes.
Can any one help me how can I do that?
Thanx,

Cannot allocate vector of size

General help for a function I'm attempting to write
Hello,
I have written a small function ('JostD' based upon a recent molecular
ecology paper) to calculate genetic distance between populations (columns in
my data set). As I have it now I have to tell it which 2 columns to use (X,
Y). I would like it to automatically calculate 'JostD' for all combinations
of columns, perhaps returning a matrix of distances. Thanks for any help
