Big Thanks to Johnny
As a result of following Johnny's handy dandy guide, the postfix/clamav/spamassassin/squirrelmail/dovecot install on one of my new 4.3 boxes was mostly painless. I've been using postfix and keeping in touch with Wietse since 98-ish so I'm quite comfy with postfix, but all this new fangled mail scanning stuff is a bit confusing to an old dog like me. :-) It seems to mostly work,

Recommendation/pointers please - Need to brush up on CentOS/Linux command line tools
Hi all, I would very much appreciate any suggestions on any online resources, or even a decent book to purchase with the focus of brushing up on Linux command line tools. The focus is on troubleshooting type commands, adding users from command line and so forth. While I am reasonably comfortable using the command line, I will be the first to admit I am slow on some things and have gaps in

Support for a (new?) backup concept
I've had an idea for a backup concept that could be new, or at least I have not been able to find anything similar on the net. It's something like a "reversed rsync", although this term is already commonly used for "backup restoration". The goal is to get the best of both pull and push backup methods. Let the "client" have some data to be backed up to the

Re: Kareo please help
I'm well aware that I'm on here a few months late, but I was hoping to find some step-by-step answers. I'm not utilizing Kareo at the moment, but it's one of the medical billing softwares that my boss is looking into. That said, he's also not adamant about keeping Windows on our system. . . .but he doesn't want Mac either. Pretty large conundrum, right? Anyway, my boss is

Opinions please: Polycom IP 430 vs 330?
I need to add a few phones to an existing installation. They have a dozen IP430 at the moment. Does anyone feel that there are advantages to the IP330? Cost is not the major consideration as long as they're in the same range. [VOIP-Users-Conference] Re: Opinions please: Polycom IP 430 vs 330?
Let me add another variable into the mix...what about the Linksys SPA-962? Good, bad or otherwise? The 32 button sidecar seems like a deal at $80 street price. FreeMIS 1.0 Released
FreeMIS is an open source management information system for schools, built with Ruby on Rails. I haven''t come across any other big open source projects using Rails so far - if nothing else, the availability of the source code might be useful for learners looking for ideas? If anyone would be interested in helping to develop FreeMIS, please get in touch. Details here:

FreeMIS Open Source Project - packaging advice needed
Hi. FreeMIS is about ready for a first release as a Ruby-on-Rails based application. I''m beginning to realise that there''s a lot of stuff to be installed before you can get even a WEBrick served version up and running: MySql, Ruby, ruby-mysql bindings, rubygems, rails, and a couple more gems - raspell (which needs aspell) and tzinfo. I''m trying to figure out the

Moving from Splus to R - advice/opinions request from amanagement perspective
Hi Dave. I'll try to offer some feedback from a fellow non-stats guy working in a business setting. I've not directly transitioned from S+ to R, but I've previously hit roadblocks with SAS and SPSS that compelled me to investigate the S/R languages. I think that as you read messages on this list, you'll find that most users don't implement R as a back end to a chain of

Moving from Splus to R - advice/opinions request from a management perspective
Hi, I've looked through the archives and seen several posts discussing technical differences between R and S(plus). It appears to me that R can likely functionally replace Splus for my situation, but I'm more interested in looking at the risks and benefits of moving from Splus to R from a (project) management point of view. Background (a bit wordy, I'm afraid): -

Advice for Internet facing Mailserver
Hello and good day, i have setup a Server which is directly connected to the Internet, without NAT-Router or other Firewall Appliance. I am using FreeBSD 6.2. I have pf enabled to only allow traffic on specified Ports. I am using Apache-13 + Postfix + Dovecot & mysql for my Mail-system. There is only one /home/User, which authenticates via a Key with Pass- phrase to sshd. The

opinions please: text editors and reporting/Sweave?
dear all - I currently use Tinn-R as my text editor to work with code that I submit to R, with some output dumped to text files, some images dumped to pdf. (system: Windows 2K and XP, R 2.4.1 and R 2.5). We are using R for overnight runs to create large output data files for GIS, but then I need simple output reports for analysis results for each separate data set. Thus, I create many reports of

Opinions Please
Although 1.4 is now released, there is one aspect of Shorewall''s design that I''m still quite unhappy with. It involves two areas: a) when and when not to create rules to allow inbound traffic on an interface to be routed back out that same interface. b) intrazone traffic. I''m currently running 1.4.0 plus a change that: a) Allows intrazone traffic unconditionally --
