Troubles with using gems in Rails
Hi!
I''m observing some problems using gem inside Rails. My understanding is
that after following sequence in irb:
$ irb
irb(main):001:0> require ''rubygems''
=> true
irb(main):002:0> require ''active_record''
=> true
irb(main):003:0> gem ''acts_as_taggable''
=> true
I should have access to acts_as_tagable mixins, like:

AR object return nil on save
Hi!
I''m upgrading existing app from Rails 1.2.6 to 2.1.2. I have
encountered following problem with AR objects.
Model definition did not change and with 1.2.6:
params={}
params[:flight] = "1111"
params[:airline] = "Air France"
params[:luggage] = 0
r=Reservation.new params
r.save
is working code, new Reservation. With the same dataset, changing only

Generate JS from RoR - strange delay with send_data
Hi!
I need to generate some JS from Ruby. This is no AJAX related stuff so
RJS templates are not help to me. Also I want to not mix JS with HTML,
so putting JS in .rhtml templates is no go for me.
Currently I made some action in controller, prepared JS code and I''m
sending it via send_data as ''text/javascript''. In .rhtml templates I use

Debugging live app
Hi!
I''m relative new one to RoR, and I have one concern regarding debugging.
I''m looking for a way to debug live app. I can use breakpoints, but as
far as I know they allow me to inspect application state in particular
place in code. I can change this state, but I can''t see possibility to
do something like step/next in gdb... Am I right, or is some way to get

MySQL connection collation
Hi!
I have ran on problem with collations. In database.yml I have set:
encoding: utf8, but when in console run:
>> ActiveRecord::Base.connection.collation
=> "latin1_swedish_ci"
It is Rails 2.1, mysql gem 2.7, mysql 5.1.22. This leads to errors like:
Mysql::Error: Illegal mix of collations (latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) and
(utf8_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation

NHW Project - website, demo pages, algorithms dev,...
Hello,
So thanks to helpful forum feedbacks, I know now that I have to create a
website for the NHW Project, make demo pages of the technology, and all
that with good visual design.It won't be such easy for me... For example, I
can easily supply a description, explanation of the different steps of the
algorithm, I can supply images encoded at mid-compression with NHW, x265,
WebP, JPEG,...

NHW Project - Is there interested people?
Hello,
Just a quick note, some people told me in the past that I must adapt NHW to
any image size else nobody will consider and use it.That's certainly right,
but again I am working on NHW on my spare time and this task is too
exhausting for me.Also, I feel now that it is useless, as I have read that
in the very next months, the great AVIF and JPEG XL will be definitely
adopted everywhere on

NHW Project - some update
Hello,
Again I thank very much the Xiph forum members for their help and
consideration for the NHW Project, really.I also realize I was a little
unfair with Monty as just saying that Xiph.org can totally give some web
space to document and advertise the NHW Project is already a very big help,
it gives credit to the project,...!
But the reality is that the NHW Project is a nearly dead project...

NHW Project - Image comparison
Hello,
Could some of you take a look at the image comparison between the NHW
Project and x265 (HEVC) at high compression, available here:
http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/ .
I would be very very interested in your opinion, and it would help me to
perfect the NHW Project.For me the NHW Project has more neatness, and x265
has more precision.
Else, I was a little lazy these past months, as I

NHW Project - lower quality settings
Hello,
I have re-tested -l4 high compression setting and it's clear that it lacks
of precision on degraded, rather blurred images. So I don't know if it is a
good idea to base the other lower quality settings (-l5,-l6,...) on -l4
setting.I have tested the NHW codec against x265, x264, Daala, WebP,
Rududu, DLI and it's clear that at high compression these very good codecs
have more

I don't mind at all. I imagine there are more people like me out
there who have been following your work, but haven't said anything.
I agree that a series of pages explaining how things work may lead to
more contributions. At the very least it would lead to more people
being better educated on how wavelets work in image compression. But,
this is your project, if you don't have the

NHW Project - some update & call for members
Hello,
These last 2 months I have been in contact with a very impressive and
friendly engineer from Intel who has written an article on my codec and the
4-5 new codecs in general that competes with HEVC.He finally answered me
that as Intel is a founding member of the Alliance for Open Media and
chairs several MPEG WG around HEVC, they won't be able to put extra
resources on the NHW Project.So

NHW Project - neatness metrics
Hello all,
Finally find some time to get back to the NHW Project.I was thinking about
making a technology demo, and I wanted to highlight the uniqueness of the
NHW codec that is neatness/sharpness preserving or enhancement.With my
eyes, I can see that the NHW codec has more neatness/sharpness than the
other codecs (x265, x264, WebP, Rududu, JPEG,...), but for a demo there
must be objective

I think Apple is somehow "attached" to the MPEG group. They control the
"pools" too. Your codec sounds great. Google could -- if they wanted to --
use it but they have Web^M and webP. Look to Asia. Asus has just launched a
new phone. ??

NHW Project - How to find a sponsor?
Hello,
I am still working on very high compression for the NHW Project, but I find
the current version good, it has a good neatness of image, which I find
visually more pleasant than other codecs that are optimizing for PSNR,
SSIM,... Furthermore the NHW Project is still very fast and royalty-free.
I dedicated this past year to the NHW Project and I could make very good
improvements (like

NHW Project - fast discrete wavelet transform
Hello,
I forgot in my last reply that my DWT implementation can be speed up, for
example I'm doing for now:
for (;_X1<_E_;_X1++,_RES+=2) //dilatation
{
_RES[0]=_X1[0]<<3;
_RES[1]=(_X1[1]+_X1[0])<<2;
}
then
for (;_X2<_E_;_X2++,_RES+=2) //details
{
_RES[0]-=(_X2[1]+_X2[0])<<1;
_RES[1]+=6*_X2[1]-_X2[2]-_X2[0];

NHW Project - high compression & community
Hello,
I've found some time to get back to the NHW Project.In fact a Xiph forum
member told me that even if I will start a new job, he hopes that I will
still continue to develop a little the NHW Project, on my spare time.I told
him that I would furthermore spend my spare time on the NHW Project if a
community around the project could emerge... and he told me that certainly
the best way for
