Newline problem
Hello all,
Recently I have started writing some small package apps. The main app
I''m working on at the moment is Camping/Photos[1]. Here I use
a controller to serve static files (Theme[3]) that I have copied from [2].
There seems a problem however, when using this via lighttpd. All files
that get served (via photos-dispatch.rb) get an extra ''\r\n'' in front.

Okay, I have tested mounting several of my apps under Lighttpd and Apache,
both running FastCGI. I''m going to explain the configuration, but first:
update.
gem install camping --source code.whytheluckstiff.net

Camping and Builder and XML
Hi,
I have built a simple Camping application which indexes an ODBC
datasource using Ferret on startup, then accepts search strings and
renders the resulting hit list in HTML, and it works quite nicely.
The next step was to alternately render the list in XML for consumption
by another application. In Rails, I would simply use Builder in the view
to get the job done, and so I did the same in

Next camping release
Dear camping users,
having been contacted by Julian Tarkhanov, I am willing to prepare the
next camping release. _why has given me his friendly approval, with
the reserve that camping.rb should be lower than 4k. He also told me
that he wanted to remove the ActiveSupport and Markaby dependencies.
I am writing here to get the users input so that I don''t do any
mistake. So far, my plans

lighttpd + fastcgi + camping
Hello all,
I am running in some little stumbling blocks with passenger as a multi user
environment (the most problematic feature is that, once you setup a
sub-domain passenger wants you to declare on nginx every app running on
that nginx server which is not ideal to add apps on the fly and / or if a
user wants to run 2 apps from his space)
so I was thinking about a more drag a drop / one line

authentication question
Hi all
Is there another gem to "manage" logins beyound Equipment (basic
login/security) to use under Camping?
I have already readed the basic_auth.rb and security.rb but is there
some app I can see it working as an example?!
Thanks in advance
Francisco
PS: keep the great job with Camping :)

Running something periodically.
Suppose, for a moment, that I have a Camping app. It looks at
something, like an RSS feed of upcoming events, and displays them if
they meet a specified criterion. I look at the index page, it fetches
the feed items and then displays them. Yay. Maybe it also writes them
to a database.
Which is great, so long as I keep looking at the page every so often.
But what do I do while I''m

Camping and ruby2ruby
Hi everybody,
I would like to use ruby2ruby in a caming project, but there seems to
be an incompatibility with camping, ruby2ruby and markaby.
Unfortunately I receive strange Markaby::InvalidXhtmlErrors.
To demonstrate, that only combination of all three components causes
the problem I added the following code. I relies on Markaby and
ruby2ruby only and works fine (a.k.a. as expected).

How to receive POST data in controller.
Hi,
When I create a controller like this:
module Bla::Controllers
class Workflow < R ''/workflow/([^\/]+)''
def post(name)
@@log.info input.inspect
end
end
end
And POST some data from the command line:
curl -i -X POST -H ''Content-Type: application/xml'' -d ''<doc><test attr="423"/></doc>''

difference between running unabridged
22 sudo mv camping.rb camping-abridged.rb
23 sudo mv camping-unabridged.rb camping.rb
when running into problems, the abridged version of camping is rather
difficult to debug.
so I''m moving to unabridged, but I''m getting this error.

Catching a list of variables with a Controller
Hi All,
I have been learning some ruby and some Camping at the same time by
implementing a little webapp to track expenses (one man''s blog...) that
includes the ability to tag entries with 1 or more tags.
I wanted to offer the possibility to narrow the view of expenses by adding
tags to a filter (this works) and I also wanted this filter to be reflected
in the URL. Like so:

Rack, Camping 2.0++
===
1. Camping on Rack
===
I''ve just finished rewriting Camping to use Rack in the "core". I got rid of
(a little less) than 1kB in camping.rb and removed lots of un-necessary files
(lib/server/*.rb, fastcgi.rb & mongrel.rb).
bin/camping does now only provide WEBrick, Mongrel and console-support and
should only be used in development. It uses Rack::ShowExceptions to catch

Problems with RJS w/ Lighttpd & Ubuntu
I have my code working on my local machine no problem, but when I upload
to the server the RJS effects I have aren''t working. The server is
running Ubuntu Dapper w/ lighttpd while on my local machine I''m using
webrick.
For kicks I shut down lightty and booted my app on the server with
webrick and it works fine. So it''s definitely a lightty issue.

css image url''s and :img problem
Hi,
i have this controller class to serve static files. It works well for
the stylesheet file under a /static directory, locating it, but the
images referenced in the stylesheet do not appear. They are in the
same /static folder, next to the stylesheet.css file.

RESTful mixin, mixin repo?
Hi,
I just put together a little mixin to provide pseudo-RESTful services
in camping apps. Basically, it looks for a hidden _verb field in form
posts, and sets the @method to the supplied value (e.g. put or delete
- which browsers don''t support). This lets you define put and delete
methods in your controllers. Groovy.

Postamble vs campingrc
Hi,
Should I be able to use the Webrick postamble instead of using
.campingrc, to tell Camping I want to use mysql? It doesn''t seem to
be working for me. It does work however, when I''m using FastCGI
(establish_connection :adapter => ''mysql'').

Module Madness
I''m wanted to make a "global" module that I could include in my
application for some shared code between them. I''ve been making
several camping apps and wanted them all to share a helper/partial
that contained the navigation.
I ran into a lot of difficulty when trying to include it, the primary
problem being "methodUndefined" errors. I did finally get it to

about PATH_INFO and FastCGI
in one of my recent email, I add .to_s to PATH_INFO in camping code.
actually, this is probably very wrong. the problem is probably something
like PATH_INFO does not exist when using FastCGI.
I have not done all my homework, but so far what I found is lighttpd has a
special option
"broken-scriptfilename": breaks SCRIPT_FILENAME in a wat that PHP can
extract PATH_INFO from it (default:

CampingConf?
Campers --
In a few weeks there will be a bunch of people in Portland, OR, for a
conference. A long time ago some campers mentioned that might be a
good time for us to get together and hold a mini CampingConf for a few
hours. Is anyone interested? Does anyone want to organize it?
I''m thinking Wednesday night, May 16.
We could possibly get a spot at FreeGeek (not likely since they are
