error using feedtools
I performed a gem install feedtools,
I then added these 2 lines to my environment.rb:
require ''rubygems''
require ''feed_tools''
I then added this method in my controller:
def rss
@post = Post.most_recent
feed = FeedTools::Feed.new
feed.title = ''Recent Rambles''
feed.subtitle = ''random thoughts by me''

Poll: Which distro do you use for Rails/Ruby development?
Good afternoon,
I''ve two quick questions for the Ruby/Rails community.
1) Do you use Linux for Ruby or Rails development?
2) If you use Linux, which distro do you normally use to develop?
Thank you for your input. :-)

Page hit counter?
Hello all,
Yet another "don''t reinvent the wheel" n00b question:
Is there an ''official'' page hit counter plugin/code snippet/whatever? I
would need something like this:
- It is possibility to set a constant timespan (say 5 hours).
- On every page hit, save away @request.remote_ip and Time.new
- The counter gets incremented only if the same IP was here

Drupal vs. Ruby on Rails
Hello all,
Maybe the $subj is a little bit weird (i.e. apples vs oranges) but it is
a situation i am facing at the moment: We are developing a small web
site which will be mostly a CMS (more or less) and my colleagues is
arguing for drupal, and i am for RoR.
Maybe i can formulate the question in a different way: when to use a CMS
(not necessarily drupal but e.g. Radiant CMS) and when to use Ruby

How to execute time consuming code
Hello all,
I have a screen scraping application (go to a lots of sites, extract 10k
stuff, integrate the results, put them to DB etc). Now i want to use a
Rails application as a frontend to this: The user can push a button
which triggers the screen scraping app and view the results (preferably
asynchronously, but that does not really matter right now).
Questions:
- Should the screen scraping app

Moving my site into production mode - general questions
Hi!
I''ve just finished my ror site and i''d like to move it into production
mode.
Now it runs on linux/apache 1.3/cgi.
1. Can i use fcgi in development mode? I''ve read somewhere that because
of caching it causes memory leaks and fcgi shouldn''t generally be used
in development. Does plain cgi also causes memory leaks in development
mode?
2. Does rails

RSS reader for rails application.
Hi,
I was wondering if there''s an RSS reader plugin of some sort available
that will basically get the RSS feeds for me and then allow my Rails
application to take those feeds and present them on my website. Would
anybody know how I could get this to work with a rails app?
Thanks.

Automaticaly unlock files
Hi all,
I've been looking for an answer for this issue but Google didn't help. So I
resource to the next best thing: the Samba mailing list.
Question: Is there a way to automaticaly, after a certain amount of time,
unlock a file after, for example, a client crash or network problem?
I know how to do it manually of course, but that is, well, cumbersome.
I've looked at

Ruby on Rails 3 RC and files in "lib" directory
In Rails 3b4 my ruby files in the lib directory of my application were
automaticaly loaded/required.
In Rails 3rc1, there are not anymore. Is this normal?
Where is the commit that changed this?
What is the best prefered way to load the files in "lib"?
Thanks for your answers.
Nicolas.

keep dimension of a sub matrix
Hi,
is there any way to keep a sub matrix dimension?
exemple :
i1<-1; i2<-1
j1<-2; j2<-3;
ret <-matrix(1,4,4)[i1:i2,j1:j2] ;
dim(ret) is NULL because the submatrix single col or single row is coerce to a vector automaticaly.
How can i bypass this cast : submatrix->vector ???????
Thank you.
