6Tb Database with ZFS
Hello, Im about to migrate a 6Tb database from Veritas Volume Manager to ZFS, I want to set arc_max parameter so ZFS cant use all my system''s memory, but i dont know how much i should set, do you think 24Gb will be enough for a 6Tb database? obviously the more the better but i cant set too much memory. Have someone implemented succesfully something similar? We ran some test and the

How to set a minimum ARC size?
We have an IMAP server that uses ZFS filesystems for all of its mailbox and database files. As the number of users increases, with a consequent increase in the number of processes, the ARC size decreases from 10 gigabytes down to 2 gigabytes. I know that it''s supposed to do that, but in this case ZFS is starved for memory and the whole thing slows to a crawl. Is there a way to set a

ZFS root ARC memory usage on VxFS system...
Hi Folks.. We have started to convert our Veritas clustered systems over to ZFS root to take advantage of the extreme simplification of using Live Upgrade. Moving the data of these systems off VxVM and VxFS is not in scope for reasons to numerous to go into.. One thing my customers noticed immediately was a reduction in "free" memory as reported by ''top''. By way

L2ARC & Workingset Size
Hi all I ran a workload that reads & writes within 10 files each file is 256M, ie, (10 * 256M = 2.5GB total Dataset Size). I have set the ARC max size to 1 GB on etc/system file In the worse case, let us assume that the whole dataset is hot, meaning my workingset size= 2.5GB My SSD flash size = 8GB and being used for L2ARC No slog is used in the pool My File system record size = 8K ,

simulating directio on zfs?
I had to let this go and get on with testing DB2 on Solaris. I had to abandon zfs on local discs in x64 Solaris 10 5/08. The situation was that: * DB2 buffer pools occupied up to 90% of 32GB RAM on each host * DB2 cached the entire database in its buffer pools o having the file system repeat this was not helpful * running high-load DB2 tests for 2 weeks showed 100%

arcstat updates
Hi ZFSers, I''ve been working on merging the Joyent arcstat enhancements with some of my own and am now to the point where it is time to broaden the requirements gathering. The result is to be merged into the illumos tree. arcstat is a perl script to show the value of ARC kstats as they change over time. This is similar to the ideas behind mpstat, iostat, vmstat, and friends. The current

l2arc current usage (population size)
Hello, How do you tell how much of your l2arc is populated? I''ve been looking for a while now, can''t seem to find it. Must be easy, as this blog entry shows it over time: http://blogs.sun.com/brendan/entry/l2arc_screenshots And follow up, can you tell how much of each data set is in the arc or l2arc? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

ZFS and memory usage.
ZFS works really stable on FreeBSD, but I''m biggest problem is how to control ZFS memory usage. I''ve no idea how to leash that beast. FreeBSD has a backpresure mechanism. I can register my function so it will be called when there are memory problems, which I do. I using it for ARC layer. Even with this in place under heavy load the kernel panics, because memory with KM_SLEEP

high read iops - more memory for arc?
I''m running into a issue where there seems to be a high number of read iops hitting disks and physical free memory is fluctuating between 200MB -> 450MB out of 16GB total. We have the l2arc configured on a 32GB Intel X25-E ssd and slog on another32GB X25-E ssd. According to our tester, Oracle writes are extremely slow (high latency). Below is a snippet of iostat: r/s w/s

why L2ARC device is used to store files ?
Greeting All I have create a pool that consists oh a hard disk and a ssd as a cache zpool create hdd c11t0d0p3 zpool add hdd cache c8t0d0p0 - cache device I ran an OLTP bench mark to emulate a DMBS One I ran the benchmark, the pool started create the database file on the ssd cache device ??????????? can any one explain why this happening ? is not L2ARC is used to absorb the evicted data

[storage-discuss] high read iops - more memory for arc?
Pre-fletching on the file and device level has been disabled yielding good results so far. We''ve lowered the number of concurrent ios from 35 to 1 causing the service times to go even lower (1 -> 8ms) but inflating actv (.4 -> 2ms). I''ve followed your recommendation in setting primarycache to metadata. I''ll have to check with our tester in the morning if it made

ZFS ZIL + L2ARC SSD Setup
I have some questions about the choice of SSDs to use for ZIL and L2ARC. I''m trying to build an OpenSolaris iSCSI SAN out of a whitebox system, which is intended to be used as a backup SAN during storage migration, so it''s built on a tight budget. The system currently has 4GB RAM, 3GHz Core2-Quad and 8x 500GB WD REII SATA HDDs attached to an Areca 8port ARC-1220 controller

ZFS/ARC consuming all memory on heavy reads (w/ dedup enabled)
Greetings Gentlemen, I''m currently testing a new setup for a ZFS based storage system with dedup enabled. The system is setup on OI 148, which seems quite stable w/ dedup enabled (compared to the OpenSolaris snv_136 build I used before). One issue I ran into, however, is quite baffling: With iozone set to 32 threads, ZFS''s ARC seems to consume all available memory, making

What is L2ARC write pattern?
Hello all, A few months ago I saw a statement that L2ARC writes are simplistic in nature, and I got the (mis?)understanding that some sort of ring buffer may be in use, like for ZIL. Is this true, and the only metric of write-performance important for L2ARC SSD device is the sequential write bandwidth (and IOPS)? In particular, there are some SD/MMC/CF cards for professional photography and

recommended memory for zfs
Hello zfs question about memory. I heard zfs is very ram hungry. Service looking to run: - nginx - postgres - php-fpm - python I have a machine with two quad core cpus but only 4 G Memory I'm looking to buy more ram now. What would be the recommend amount of memory for zfs across 6 drives on this setup? Also can 9.1 now boot to zfs from the installer? (no tricks for post install) Thanks

[RFC] Adding ARC backend
Hi Pete, Thanks for your kind response! I migrated AVR target for lld https://reviews.llvm.org/D32991 it is very beginning, only support R_AVR_CALL reloc, and ARC is more complex than AVR, I will learn it from binutils, also ARC related doc, then try to implement it. 发自我的iPhone ------------------ Original ------------------ From: Pete Couperus <Peter.J.Couperus at synopsys.com> Date:

How to cross-compile for ARC in clang?
Hello everyone, I'm trying to compile my test.cpp for ARC, using this guide https://clang.llvm.org/docs/CrossCompilation.html. I've built my LLVM+CLANG with ARC, ARM and X86. clang -target arc -S test.cpp Gives me: error: unknown target triple 'arc', please use -triple or -arch clang -targer arm works fine Is there any way to compile for ARC? -------------- next part
