System started crashing hard after zpool reconfigure and OI upgrade
I have two identical Supermicro boxes with 32GB ram. Hardware details at the end of the message. They were running OI 151.a.5 for months. The zpool configuration was one storage zpool with 3 vdevs of 8 disks in RAIDZ2. The OI installation is absolutely clean. Just next-next-next until done. All I do is configure the network after install. I don''t install or enable any other services.

After working with the 3.12 flavor of gluster I learned nfs-ganesha was replaced with storhaug in 3.11.Have people been successfully utilizing storhaug and does any documentation exist for using it in a ha nfs configuration or is ha in gluster so rarely used it's a non-issue for most gluster users? Going through the lists, it was recommended in November to not use storhaug and if

Optimal strategy (add or replace disks) to build a cheap and raidz?
Hello, i have an 8 port sata-controller and i don''t want to spend the money for 8 x 750 GB Sata Disks right now. I''m thinking about an optimal way of building a growing raidz-pool without loosing any data. As far as i know there are two ways to achieve this: - Adding 750 GB Disks from time to time. But this would lead to multiple groups with multiple redundancy/parity disks. I

Failed to boot suse 10.1(domain 0) with IBM xSeries 330
Hi , I have setup xen on a number of different machines already; however, I couldn''t get xSeries 330 working with Xen. When it boots up, it says "Waiting for device /dev/sda1 .... device not found" and then return a shell prompt. I have looked up this error on the mailing list. I found that the error is potentially caused SCSI driver and it can be resolved this problem by

I need storage server advice
Hi: I need advice on implementing a storage server. I really do not have the $ to spend for a Dell iSCSI storage divice and I am thinking trunning CentOS 5.x with ftp or FreeNAS. Here is what I am looking at and concerned about. Situation: My current storage needs are approximately 1.5 TB annually. This will increase to about 3.5 TB annually over the next 5 years (rough est.). This box

Performance advantages of spool with 2x raidz2 vdev"s vs. Single vdev
Hi guys, I am about to reshape my data spool and am wondering what performance diff. I can expect from the new config. Vs. The old. The old config. Is a pool of a single vdev of 8 disks raidz2. The new pool config is 2vdev''s of 7 disk raidz2 in a single pool. I understand it should be better with higher io throughput....and better read/write rates...but interested to hear the science

Can anyone suggest a SCSI 3 card in either PCI-X or PCI-E x 4 for a Dell Poweredge 2900?
The only PCI-X card I have is an old ICP Vortex RAID controller and the Dell hangs with that installed (BIOS is disabled). It's only for a tape drive so performance isn't really an issue. thanks

server recommentation (unique requirements)
Howdy. I've been having trouble finding a fairly modern server that meets the following requirements: - Molex power connectors (don't want to use the Digium FXS power supply) - 4 PCI slots, one full-length (TDM2400P, 2xT100P, additional NIC) - dual power supplies - preferably dual CPUs >= 1GHz - preferably rack-mountable (3-4RU) - CentOS-friendly We'd also like to stay away from

ASUS PT6 or Intel DX58SO for CentOS?
I'm looking at setting up a new machine to run CentOS 5 and a few VMWare machines to test Windows XP, Vista, and 7. I'm working with a custom PC shop and they've recommended I use either the ASUS PT6 or Intel DX58SO. Any feedback good or bad on either of these? Thanks! --Chris

Hi all, I''m putting together a OpenSolaris ZFS-based system and need help picking hardware. Motherboard for home zfs/solaris file server
Hello, I am building a home file server and am looking for an ATX mother board that will be supported well with OpenSolaris (onboard SATA controller, network, graphics if any, audio, etc). I decided to go for Intel based boards (socket LGA 775) since it seems like power management is better supported with Intel processors and power efficiency is an important factor. After reading several

The best motherboard for a home ZFS fileserver
I''m a fan of ZFS since I''ve read about it last year. Now I''m on the way to build a home fileserver and I''m thinking to go with Opensolaris and eventually ZFS!! Apart from the other components, the main problem is to choose the motherboard. The offer is incredibly high and I''m lost. Minimum requisites should be: - working well with Open Solaris ;-) -
