Single-disk rpool with inconsistent checksums, import fails
Hello all, I have an oi_148a PC with a single root disk, and since recently it fails to boot - hangs after the copyright message whenever I use any of my GRUB menu options. Booting with an oi_148a LiveUSB I had around since installation, I ran some zdb traversals over the rpool and zpool import attempts. The imports fail by running the kernel out of RAM (as recently discussed in the list with

confused about zpool import -f and export
Hi, all, I think I''m missing a concept with import and export. I''m working on installing a Nexenta b134 system under Xen, and I have to run the installer under hvm mode, then I''m trying to get it back up under pv mode. In that process the controller names change, and that''s where I''m getting tripped up. I do a successful install, then I boot OK,

Kernel panic on zfs import
Hi, I''ve got an OpenSolaris 2009.06 box that will reliably panic whenever I try to import one of my pools. What''s the best practice for recovering (before I resort to nuking the pool and restoring from backup)? There are two pools on the system: rpool and tank. The rpool seems to be fine, since I can boot from a 2009.06 CD and ''zpool import -f rpool''; I can

ZFS Recovery: What do I try next?
I would like to pick the brains of the ZFS experts on this list: What would you do next to try and recover this zfs pool? I have a ZFS RAIDZ1 pool named bank0 that I cannot import. It was composed of 4 1.5 TiB disks. One disk is totally dead. Another had SMART errors, but using GNU ddrescue I was able to copy all the data off successfully. I have copied all 3 remaining disks as images using

slog / log recovery is here!
(From the README) # Jeb Campbell <jebc at c4solutions.net> NOTE: This is last resort if you need your data now. This worked for me, and I hope it works for you. If you have any reservations, please wait for Sun to release something official, and don''t blame me if your data is gone. PS -- This worked for me b/c I didn''t try and replace the log on a running system. My

Reboots when importing old rpool
I have a fresh install of Solaris 11 Express on a new SSD. I have inserted the old hard disk, and tried to import it, with: # zpool import -f <long id number> Old_rpool but the computer reboots. Why is that? On my old hard disk, I have 10-20 BE, starting with OpenSolaris 2009.06 and upgraded to b134 up to snv_151a. I also have a WinXP entry in GRUB. This hard disk is partitioned, with a

How to know the recordsize of a file
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I would like to know the blocksize of a particular file. I know the blocksize for a particular file is decided at creation time, in fuction of the write size done and the recordsize property of the dataset. How can I access that information?. "no pool_props" for OpenSolaris 2009.06 with old SPARC hardware
Hi, yesterday evening I tried to upgrade my Ultra 60 to 2009.06 from SXCE snv_98. I can''t use AI Installer because OpenPROM is version 3.27. So I built IPS from source, then created a zpool on a spare drive and installed OS 2006.06 on it To make the disk bootable I used: installboot -F zfs /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/zfs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s0 using the executable from my new

(gang?)block layout question, and how to decipher ZDB output?
Hello, all I''m "playing" with ZDB again on another test system, the rpool being uncompressed with 512-byte sectors. Here''s some output that puzzles me (questions follow): # zdb -dddddddd -bbbbbb rpool/ROOT/nightly-2012-01-31 260050 ... 1e80000 L0 DVA[0]=<0:200972e00:20200> DVA[1]=<0:391820a00:200> [L0 ZFS plain file] fletcher4 uncompressed

zpool import -f rpool hangs
I had the rpool with two sata disks in the miror. Solaris 10 5.10 Generic_141415-08 i86pc i386 i86pc Unfortunately the first disk with grub loader has failed with unrecoverable block write/read errors. Now I have the problem to import rpool after the first disk has failed. So I decided to do: "zpool import -f rpool" only with second disk, but it''s hangs and the system is

No ACL inheritance with aclmode=passthrough in onnv-134
Hi list, while preparing for the changed ACL/mode_t mapping semantics coming with onnv-147 [1], I discovered that in onnv-134 on my system ACLs are not inherited when aclmode is set to passthrough for the filesystem. This very much puzzles me. Example: $ uname -a SunOS os 5.11 snv_134 i86pc i386 i86pc $ pwd /Volumes/ACLs/dir1 $ zfs list | grep /Volumes rpool/Volumes 7,00G 39,7G 6,84G

pool died during scrub
I have a bunch of sol10U8 boxes with ZFS pools, most all raidz2 8-disk stripe. They''re all supermicro-based with retail LSI cards. I''ve noticed a tendency for things to go a little bonkers during the weekly scrub (they all scrub over the weekend), and that''s when I''ll lose a disk here and there. OK, fine, that''s sort of the point, and they''re

reconstruct recovery of rpool zpool and zfs file system with bad sectors
Folks I posted this question on (OpenSolaris - Help) without any replies http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=129436&tstart=0 and am re-posting here in the hope someone can help ... I have updated the wording a little too (in an attempt to clarify) I currently use OpenSolaris on a Toshiba M10 laptop. One morning the system wouldn''t boot OpenSolaris 2009.06 (it was simply

can''t boot 2009.06 domU on Xen 3.4.1 / CentOS 5.3 dom0
I''ve got a CentOS 5.3 dom0 with Xen 3.4.1-rc5 (or so). I''ve tried the same stuff below with 3.4.0, no difference. I''m trying to install 2009.06 PV domU based on instructions from [1] and [2]. I can run the install fine, I can also get the kernel and boot archive (from [2]) after the install. But for the life of me I can''t get the installed domU to boot. If I

sharing a ssd between rpool and l2arc
Hi, as Richard Elling wrote earlier: "For more background, low-cost SSDs intended for the boot market are perfect candidates. Take a X-25V @ 40GB and use 15-20 GB for root and the rest for an L2ARC. For small form factor machines or machines with max capacity of 8GB of RAM (a typical home system) this can make a pleasant improvement over a HDD-only implementation." For the upcoming

Changing rpool device paths/drivers
Hello all, It was often asked and discussed on the list about "how to change rpool HDDs from AHCI to IDE mode" and back, with the modern routine involving reconfiguration of the BIOS, bootup from separate live media, simple import and export of the rpool, and bootup from the rpool. The documented way is to reinstall the OS upon HW changes. Both are inconvenient to say the least.

mirrored pool unimportable (FAULTED)
Hi, more than a year ago I created a mirrored ZFS-Pool consiting of 2x1TB HDDs using the OSX 10.5 ZFS Kernel Extension (Zpool Version 8, ZFS Version 2). Everything went fine and I used the pool to store personal stuff on it, like lots of photos and music. (So getting the data back is not time critical, but still important to me.) Later, since the development of the ZFS extension was

Lost zpool after reboot
Hello, I have a dual boot with Windows 7 64 bit enterprise edition and Opensolaris build 134. This is on Sun Ultra 40 M1 workstation. Three hard drives, 2 in ZFS mirror, 1 is shared with Windows. Last 2 days I was working in Windows. I didn''t touch the hard drives in any way except I once opened Disk Management to figure out why a external USB hard drive is not being listed.
