dedup testing?
Hi all
Has anyone done any testing with dedup with OI? On opensolaris there is a nifty "feature" that allows the system to hang for hours or days if attempting to delete a dataset on a deduped pool. This is said to be fixed, but I haven''t seen that myself, so I''m just wondering...
I''ll get a 10TB test box released for testing OI in a few weeks, but before

ZFS Dedup question
I created a zfs pool with dedup with the following settings:
zpool create data c8t1d0
zfs create data/shared
zfs set dedup=on data/shared
The thing I was wondering about was it seems like ZFS only dedup at the file level and not the block. When I make multiple copies of a file to the store I see an increase in the deup ratio, but when I copy similar files the ratio stays at 1.00x.

zfs destroy hangs machine if snapshot exists- workaround found
Hi,
I was suffering for weeks from the following problem:
a zfs dataset contained an automatic snapshot (monthly) that used 2.8 TB of data. The dataset was deprecated, so I chose to destroy it after I had deleted some files; eventually it was completely blank besides the snapshot that still locked 2.8 TB on the pool.
''zfs destroy -r pool/dataset''
hung the machine within seconds

LUN is connected to solaris 10u9 from NETAP FAS2020a with ISCSI. I''m
changing LUN size on netapp and solaris format see new value but zpool
still have old value.
I tryed zpool export and zpool import but it didn''t resolve my problem.

ZFS Dedupe reporting incorrect savings
Hi,
Created a zpool with 64k recordsize and enabled dedupe on it.
zpool create -O recordsize=64k TestPool device1
zfs set dedup=on TestPool
I copied files onto this pool over nfs from a windows client.
Here is the output of zpool list

dedup in dovecot?
Hi all
Deduplicating data is not really a new thing, but quite efficient in
mail systems where an email with an nMB attachment may be sent to
multiple recipients. This might call for deduplicating data. Is there
a way to do this, or is it far off? If I understand the system
correctly, usually an MTA is calling dovecot on every single message,
meaning the message itself won't

btrfs wishlist
Hi all
Having managed ZFS for about two years, I want to post a wishlist.
INCLUDED IN ZFS
- Mirror existing single-drive filesystem, as in ''zfs attach''
- RAIDz-stuff - single and hopefully multiple-parity RAID configuration with block-level checksumming
- Background scrub/fsck
- Pool-like management with multiple RAIDs/mirrors (VDEVs)
- Autogrow as in ZFS autoexpand

ZFS size is different ?
Hi all,
I have 2 questions about ZFS.
1. I have create a snapshot in my pool1/data1, and zfs send/recv it to pool2/data2. but I found the USED in zfs list is different:
NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT
pool2/data2 160G 1.44T 159G /pool2/data2
pool1/data 176G 638G 175G /pool1/data1
It keep about 30,000,000 files.
The content of p_pool/p1 and backup/p_backup

attaching 2nd vol unsupported?
Hi,
im trying to attach another volume aka disk to win HVM, however it
doesn''t seem to work:

results in:

?: zfs mv within pool seems slow
I have just upgraded my jumpstart server to S10 u2 b9a.
It is an Ultra 10 with two 120GB EIDE drives. The second drive (disk1) is new, and has u2b9a
installed on a slice, with most of the space in slice 7 for the ZFS pool
I created pool1 on disk1, and created the filesystem pool1/ro (for legacy reasons). I them moved my
data from the original disk0 UFS file system to pool1/ro. Initially I

L2ARC and ZIL on same SSD?
Are there any drawbacks to partition a SSD in two parts and use L2ARC on one partition, and ZIL on the other? Any thoughts?

NexentaStor 3.0.3 vs OpenSolaris - Patches more up to date?
I see in NexentaStor''s announcement of Community Edition 3.0.3 they mention some backported patches in this release.
Aside from their management features / UI what is the core OS difference if we move to Nexenta from OpenSolaris b134?
These DeDup bugs are my main frustration - if a staff member does a rm * in a directory with dedup you can take down the whole storage server - all with

A couple of issues
I''ve been testing ZFS since it came out on b27 and this week I BFUed to b30. I''ve seen two problems, one I''ll call minor and the other major. The hardware is a Dell PowerEdge 2600 with 2 3.2GHz Xeons, 2GB memory and a perc3 controller. I have created a filesystem for over 1000 users on it and take hourly snapshots, which destroy the one from 24 hours ago, except the

how to add file-based disk space to a guest
hi there,
I'm following these documentations to add a file-based disk volume to
a KVM guest under Centos 6.0 :
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Virtualization/chap-Virtualization-Storage_Volumes.html
as instructed, I created a "pool" then a "volume", file-based, e.g :
mkdir /mnt/raid/kvm_pool1
virsh # pool-define-as pool1 dir - - - -

Space usage
I''m just uploading all my data to my server and the space used is much more than what i''m uploading;
Documents = 147MB
Videos = 11G
Software= 1.4G
By my calculations, that equals 12.547T, yet zpool list is showing 21G as being allocated;

simulating a few thousand SIP clients?
hi
i'm setting up a rig to handle quite a few SIP clients, so i need a
way to simulate, say, 20k SIP ATAs. Does anyone know how? This should
of course be as close as possible to 'reality', meaning n% calls per
client and the usual REGISTER/OPTION traffic.
thanks
Best regards

How to delegate filesystems from different pools to non-global zone
I''m trying to add filesystems from two different pools to a zone but can''t seem to find any mention of how to do this in the docs.
I tried this but the second set overwrites the first one.
add dataset
set name=pool1/fs1
set name=pool2/fs2
end
Is this possible or do I need to use different syntax?
